Are you forced to use LaTex from source? because if not I would recommend you use iTexMacs http://code.google.com/p/itexmacs/
I'm not sure I understand what you mean. I chose to use LaTeX because the majority of journals, at least in the field of Computer Science, accept papers in either IEEE or ACM format/templates.
Because of this, there's usually only two reasonable options, using a Microsoft Word template or a LaTeX template. I went with LaTeX because it's really easy to version control, whereas Word documents are not. Especially when you're trying to collaborate between three different people.
My current setup is MiKTeX + TeXstudio + SVN for version control. I'm using SVN not because I prefer it over git or hg, but because it was already on our server and everyone knows how to use it.

Garry's Mod 9.
Man now that Ive been working with Unity more and more, I'm noticing that its a lot harder to get decent graphics on this engine then when I worked with UDK.

I've been working on Data structures Uni homework the past 8 hours. I've taken the class before at another university and it was a very fun and challenging class. However, this time, the teacher is so god damn awful its almost unbelievable. Her lectures a jumbled mess and no one can understand her. Her homework assignments are unorganized, long, full of buggy broken skeleton code, and have almost no direction or goal. I've literally spent hours and hours with sending emails to Her, and teaching assistants for verification. She spent 4 minutes trying to figure out how to full screen youtube. Fuck this class.

That's the idea :v:
It's for my Artificial Intelligence class in college, you'll play as an old guy and you can feed the pidgeons or shoot at them with a modified cane, if you shoot at them they'll start pooping on you while if you feed them they'll become your allies, still have to think of an idea to turn them against each other.

My main issue with it is that dynamic shadows (in the pro version) don't let you adjust the draw distance, same goes for grass, I guess you could write your own shaders, etc with the pro version but for the free one it's annoying.
EDIT: Nevermind, you can adjust grass density and distance by acessing the Terrain component through a script.

That actually looks kind of UDK level, to be honest.
Granted its not UDK level, but these games seem to have good enought graphics
Unity seems to have really good graphics on mobile games. Dead Trigger is a really good example.

Also, how good a game looks is largely determined by the quality of its content, not the engine.

Dead Trigger is really incredible. Great example!
After a few hundred years of procrastinating working on this project I've started adding building walls and interiors.

Don't you have to buy unity pro to get the nicer renderer though?

Yea but you need to pay for UDK to actually produce anything economically

I attended Global Game Jam this year and this is what I managed to put together.

The goal is to get as many guys as possible to the end of the level.
There's an electrical pulse that runs through the level that controls all the traps.
The pulse can be modified at several panels throughout the level in terms of frequency and amplitude.

What about CryEngine3? It's free for non-commercial purposes and Crytek require 20%. Right?

That is a bit outdated though.
It's $5,000 total for Unity Pro, Android and iOS Pro, and Team License
Unity is still less profitable until you're making lots of money though.

They bought 5 licenses, for each team member. It's a license per application, not per game. UDK is per game; you only need to buy one license for the whole game.

I was under the impression it was 1 Unity Pro license for 2 users, unless it changed recently. Either way nobody is forced to buy iOS and Android licenses unless they really want to, you can always start by buying a PC license, once the game is selling buy the others even if it's not for the same game.
I am working on the Facebook Hacker Cup challenges, I'm done the first and second, and god the second took me forever. Ended up doing it a completely different way then when I started lol.
There are other UDK licensing options other then the 99$ + 25% commercial license.

A few bugs here and there still, my 3d generalist guy sent me some animations and textures.

If you're a big company, you can pay them more money for a license where they get little or no percent of the profits.

For some reason I thought the stuff was crashing into your ship, and that made it a lot funnier.
Do you guys remember Polycode, that love2d-like framework that could use C++ or lua and do 2d and 3d? I was thinking about wanting to get into 3d stuff and I remembered that it seemed pretty easy to use. I found that website was gone, and it said that it was being released soon.
It turns out that the author had bigger plans, wanting to make something like an open-source unity.

I'm pretty excited, he's said he's releasing it early february
