A play toggle button is a shitty metaphor. [editline]3rd January 2013[/editline] It's not really even a metaphor since you'd be hard pressed to find a real-world example.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/XVwEq.jpg[/t] (I actually prefer having the pause symbol up while playing, though. Adheres to media player convention.)

nice pause button
This is nothing too special, but I made an application in Java (it's for a school assignment, I would never use it seriously) that shows weather conditions (from the Yahoo APIs) from any location you choose in the world: This actually a sarcastic attempt at overengineering an application that was requested by the teacher as a simple command-line app showing information from a single location. The actual code is up on GitHub if anyone wants to take a look or run the application (there's a convenient JAR in the `dist` directory). I am not very experienced with Java best practice so the code is probably not that good and the formatting is all over the place because I fucked up the editor's auto-formatting settings, but if you have any good criticism I always appreciate it. [editline]4th January 2013[/editline] It's 911 lines of code.
Finished rewriting my server into a small networking library. Got a pretty decent system going on, so now I can finally write a game which makes use of it. Just a simple test.

I just found out gitk exsisted. It's like viewing a repository on github, except it's local. This is pretty great, especially since I just started using dropbox repos and was in need of something to view my commits.
Just toying around with 2D AABB physics yet again, this must be like the third time I've done something like this. However, it's my first actual application where I use OpenGL (well, LWJGL) by itself, so I'm pretty proud of it. I also just discovered how to do gradients, and well, I think it adds a nice subtle effect.
whoa thats deep man, like as deep as a button should be pushed before on a gui it automagically becomes a pause button so pause posting (User was banned for this post ("Being an asshole in WAYWO yet again" - SteveUK))
It's like we're watching amc's descent into madness or some shit.
It's like we're watching amc's descent into madness or some shit.
But he's been posting like this for quite a while now.
RE: the media player question how about a play symbol if the player is completely stopped, and then a pause symbol while it's playing, with it being pressed down if the player is merely paused (and not entirely stopped) anyway ENOUGH OF ME FUCKIN' AROUND, FOR ONCE I ACTUALLY GET STARTED ON SOMETHING INTERESTING. I've recently begun work on a 2D adventure game engine, which I have inexplicably christened as "Project Iowa". I'm not entirely sure yet if I want to make an actual game out of this or just leave it as an engine, but still. So far here's what I've accomplished: - Code for static sprites has been made - Code for animated sprites has mostly been made - Code for a console appearing (as well as an echo and an unsupported command response). I don't have the actual graphics bit going because I'm currently relying on animated sprites "thinking" in order to advance their frames and I haven't quite figured out how I'm going to do that yet, but I do have a console to show you! it even supports hitting enter instead of pressing the "exec" button, and I didn't even code that in! I love Qt.
So after months of lurking, I have content... Who knew. Anyways have some randomly generated tile, and a mario sprite that moves left and right with some horrible animation. C++ and sfml. [vid]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/78160842/rawr3.00.webm[/vid] Most code here is shit, and needs a lot of maintenance already aha. Sorry about shitty quality.

Just a simple test.
Your local tests have latency. Somethings wrong, abandon ship! Oh wait, it's just a forgotten new line. Fix it, it's causing me to lose sleep. :tinfoil:
I've been working on Dwarfpunch Mapper some more (there's sort of a release out on our bitbucket, despite it not being complete yet). I added a settings dialog, so now you can change the scale it uses for speed vs. detail. You can also change the colors it uses, so now if you really want to, you can make unrealistic stuff like this come out of it: After making this, I'm really glad I put in a button to restore the defaults colors.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/WxR33.png[/t] Devided stuff into tabs, added a list of all tracks in the library. Next up: Playlist management. [editline]4th January 2013[/editline] Artistic ratings go to Twitter Bootstrap

Remove the "Now Playing:" it doesn't really need to be there, it's pretty obvious what the information is. Or perhaps make it much smaller Like this maybe [img_thumb]http://puu.sh/1JxPh[/img_thumb]

Does anyone here have experience using the minimax and, preferably, the negamax algorithms, and possibly has some time to spare to help me out with something?
It's like we're watching amc's descent into madness or some shit.
He isn't the amc we need, he is the amc we deserve. It seems like anyone whos been around for a long time falls into insanity, and/or gets perma banned. It's like the Facepunch curse or something. The only question is, whos next? :tinfoil:
amc's breaking bad
Tuns out that 128x128 tiles is quite a few. And I started out with 2048 :D That little red thing is mario.
Does anyone here have experience using the minimax and, preferably, the negamax algorithms, and possibly has some time to spare to help me out with something?
I have done minimax, but nothing about negamax
After a day long hiatus I began working on my game again. Today I started working on my games HUD system. I moved the actual game up using glViewport and then I made a seperate ortographic section in the bottom part of the screen. For some reason I have having issues drawing an 800x128 texture ( the base hud texture at the bottom of the image ) onto the quad. For some reason, the quad needs to be 1024x600 for it to show the texture correctly. The viewport ive specified is only 800x128. Whatever, it works :) Now I need to learn how to make somewhat decent art. That bar I am currently using looks like shit :L

What is a good/most features opensource audio API/library in c++? I was thinking openAL but I remmeber there being something a while back about it not being fully opensource. And is there any library or API for using some sort of hardware for proximity testing, or figuring out positions of somewhere in a room? I was thinking of maybe openCV or the opensource kinnect API but I dont have a clue if any of these can support locating people

I haven't ever used any audio api before, except what SFML uses (when I tried their examples), so I don't know how great this is, but it seems to be pretty ok.
Can someone explain to me what purpose and the general idea of tick rates in computer games are? I've always been interested in their purpose but never knew what to google for.
If video games didn't use tick rates, they would use up all the resources on the computer. They limit how fast the game renders and in turn how much processing power it needs.
Does anyone here have experience using the minimax and, preferably, the negamax algorithms, and possibly has some time to spare to help me out with something?
You treat tabulated elements differently to floating parts of the page. http://tympanus.net/codrops/2011/01/14/visual-movement-flow/ some information on graphic design.
