How do you guys get ideas for the design of your homepages? I want to create a personal homepage about me and my projects, but kind of lack a proper sense for webdesign and I also don't want to just copy the design of someone else's personal homepage.
I guess I am simply more the back-end development kind of guy.

There are lots of websites that use similar designs. Find a good design on another website you like, then just tweak it to your liking. You can use someone else's design as a basis

Use something like bootstrap to give you a hand in developing the front-end.

Agreed. THats why I said I wouldn't be including the music in the final. It was just a joke for a friend of mine.

yes, webm
I'm working on a webserver in c++, so besides posting this in the programming subforum, I thought posting it here would be just as relevant.
I've got account authentication(without hashing) working, and session tracking working as well.
The internal BitBet game is very buggy, it's definitely a WIP.
Since screenshots won't do much good for this server as of yet, I'll include the link, + usage instructions below.
87.211.14.64:8081 is the url.
Go to /createaccount to test account creation, login, and session tracking.
oh and if you feel like trying some exploits on it, please do. I would love to know anything I could fix.

Oh and, I'm fully aware of some <br> statements missing in my code, I will fix it sooner or later.
You should read up on HTTP more. You're using GET to send form data, which is wrong. You should be accepting POST requests when submitting forms. I shouldn't see this in the url when I submit the create account form:
http://87.211.14.64:8081/entergame/accountcreate/param?Username=test&Password=ter
So i got bored and made this userscript
Whatever happened to that cosmo.is site? I can't remember who posted screens of it, maybe terrabyte? It was a mockup for a WAYWO-like forum but I guess it died. I thought it was a pretty interesting idea though, what kinds of features do you guys think a service inspired by WAYWO/pimpage threads could offer over the typical forum setup we have here?
I'm actually working on a WAYWO inspired website right now. Started it last weekend, but haven't put anything online yet. Thinking about open-sourcing it and letting everyone contribute once the framework is laid down.
So far you can create accounts and create pages for specific projects that you have. Soon you'll be able to post images and updates to project pages and follow projects to keep an eye on their progress. Sort of like a dev log.
Also planning on letting you follow other users and adding a community/forum area, commenting on projects and project updates, etc.
I also want it to function as a knowledge sharing site, so people will be able to write tutorials and quick tips and things like that.
I've got a lot of ideas for this one, would definitely be cool to turn it in to a team project.
*cool idea*
Well Open Sourcing it makes it even a more correct spirit.
I hope it will have its own page of itself.

Oh and be sure to post the link here, because I am 100% interested. (Of the repo)

Sounds awesome! I've been toying around with the idea of prototyping something like that as dev/design practice, but I would gladly contribute where I could if you opened it up.

I'm actually building the project pages/updates piece first so I can start a dev log for it as soon as I have that feature done and launched :)

Literally the next Facebook. We've already bought up all the shares and I'm looking at an early retirement. Probably snipped because the idea was so golden.
(It was actually already snipped and I followed Mega's rating, noshame)

I was wondering why you snipped it after he snipped it. I was a pretty cool project. And in all seriousness I want to throw my money at it.
So I made this

Is it going to be a general WAYWO or more something more specific like webdevelopment? Seems like a very interesting project. A friend of mine makes furniture and he posts a sort of log on facebook, seems like this would be something that he would be using. It would be pretty amazing for pc enthusiasts as well, pc build logs are not uncommon.
If it's something more general it requires quite some thinking on how to display specific content. If I'm making a pc build log I would want to post a nice spec sheet at the top of my log. Or when building a new desk the tools, materials used etc on each specific step.
Anyway, if you need some help I'm not too busy lately.
