You should save a copy of the image on your server as it's very easy to get the user's Facebook just from the image link.

No, he's right. A lot of sites that use facebook login will pull your profile picture as your avatar because it's really easy to do.

Does anyone know any good alternatives to PHP? I've kinda gotten the hint that it's not the best/easiest language to deal with from multiple sources. I've seen Ruby on Rails used here a lot but does it have the same feature set as PHP?
If you can do something with PHP, you can do it with Rails and it will probably take half the time to build.

How? The facebook image links links to a completely different URL, with no hint as to who the user is. The only way to find it would be to do a reverse image search, and you could do that with a copy of the image as well.

Just remove the blocky font, it may seem "hip" but it just looks really unprofessional.
