Anyone recommend a good resource for getting up-to-date with responsive web design, or something grid-based? I haven't properly learnt anything new in a long time (4 years) and all my sites are breaking on mobile, and the really high resolution screens, namely those sexy retina's.
And just discovered brackets.io/. Actually updates what your doing live to your browser. Only works with chrome atm but I love the idea.
Edit: Would this be more suited in the questions thread?
Nevermind I posted it in there.

There's way too much spacing in my opinion, I think you should try to make a centered box instead of having that container touching the edges. I mean I'm on 1680x1050 and have to scroll to fully see the game at the bottom.
Finally got myself a proper domain name:
saming.free.fr → saming.fr
Working on a celebratory overhaul of the homepage.
Just wounding what are people's opinion with bootstrap, I'am just wondering what people think of it ?

It's bloated, if you just want to use one or two specific components just extract it from the css

half-decent for prototyping, shiet for anything else

Not if you style it properly. It's actually pretty useful if you do.

but hey, it looks pretty decent for the amount of work I put into it.
Did this for a local children gymnastics program. Anyone want to see the live version?

Personally, I think the background is really distracting. See if you can really lighten it up and take some contrast off in Photoshop.
Also, I think the italicized selected link is weird - it doesn't fit too well.
The search icon needs some contrast with the rest of the page. Either make it white, or make the background contrast more.
The links on the bottom right don't really offer any functionality that the top navbar doesn't, so I'd do away with that and put something more fitting that last column. Try to get the bottom four columns to match-up height-wise too.
Here's me being crazy stupid with Stylish (day one):

I always thought the top links for Facepunch were kind of scattered and should've been collected in one place. The "funny" icon links to your profile. Also, the header is overall much more compact with 100% more Coolvetica.

The pagination is moved up into the header for the interest of saving space. All usertitles are forced down to a specific font-size. Images that are larger than the max-width of the post is scaled down using CSS. Colors are changed. I am happy.
EDIT: Oh, screw Coolvetica. Segoe UI looks pretty damn cool:

The background and logo seem pretty appealing to me. But I'm not a big fan of the blue box (not organized) and the tabs look a bit confusing. Search bar doesn't look like you can search there.

Wait there's a search bar?

I've wanted to do something which tints post gradients based on their ratings for a while
loadsa funnies, tending to yellow etc

You should still have a clearer visual indication that it exists
What's the best language in terms of performance? I use PHP but that can only handle around ~1000 requests a second on my current box.

I think it depends on how optimized your set up is. Obviously some languages will still be faster but I know PHP can handle more requests per second than that.

I think it's more the fault of the box specs rather than PHP itself, it was a DigitalOcean $5/mo box (512MB RAM, 1 Core, 20GB SSD) so it wasn't exactly the highest spec'd machine.
Any tips on optimising Nginx + PHP?
What's the CPU and how many cores do you have?

Zero, it's just a simple echo.

It seems they don't tell exactly what type of processor you use, judging by their FAQ:
What kind of CPUs do you use?
All of the DigitalOcean CPUs are between 2 and 3 GHz.
What processor models does DigitalOcean run on?
Intel Hex-Core CPUs

You got a dedicated 2 Ghz core with 4 MB L2 Cache, which is not enough to power your service. You should find a more powerful VPS or upgrade to a dedicated server instead. What's your price range?

I'm not at the stage where i'm getting more than 1k requests a second, but it would be nice to handle a lot more (since nginx on one of those boxes can easily handle 10k requests a second), i'm open to any other providers but it needs to be around the same price as DigitalOcean.
And if I did go with another provider, I'd prefer it to be someone like DigitalOcean, I like the way they do things. AWS provides the same performance as DigitalOcean but for a lot more.
Wait so you're switching providers and/or your application's language in order to handle traffic that you don't have?
Wait so you're switching providers and/or your application's language in order to handle traffic that you don't have?
No - i'm planning to use something created in another language to be kinda like a gateway, sort of the way cloudflare works. But it obviously needs to be able to handle a lot of traffic.
