Oeps, upload some stuff I was messing around with and that shouldn't be there. Just wanted to know your thoughts about removing the yellow, changing the background and getting rid of the slider. Was trying to go for a portalish look. Removed the stuff that shouldn't be there now.
am i the only one sick of seeing a million of the most-overused subtlepatterns.com backgrounds/textures shoved into every design
its not even that the images are bad its just like you went to subtlepatterns and saw a bunch of backgrounds you liked, then desperately put them everywhere on your site you could fit them, even though they don't go together or are too "busy"
If I like something and it looks decent why shouldn't I use it?
I'm terrible at constructive criticism, but it just looks a little boring and unimaginative. It looks like something you made after a little while in Photoshop and just said "yeah that'll do." In all honesty you probably shouldn't be taking advice from me, and I'm bad at wording things, but that's just what I think
I like it. It's not terrible or anything and it's very nice looking - maybe not exciting but certainly better then most logos out there in my opinion.

I like how this turned out. Now to make the backend.

That red loading bar is so distracting.
I can't put my finger on what's wrong with this, like someone above me said it does look slightly metro-y but you haven't completely nailed that feeling. I think the main problem is the color scheme, I know it's trying to stick with the elpishost colors but it just doesn't look right (nor does the elpishost logo, honestly)

are there 3 people on fp that can vouch for me on forrst? I browse it a lot and not being able to comment on things annoys me
when did i ever say i was trying to aim for metro

haven't you used subtlepatterns in the last 3 or so revisions of your site
the first time you used it, you used the same black denim that multiple web designers use, including myself
there's no point in you using a pattern for your current design other than to accommodate the color scheme

could i get some more feedback on this page?
the live concept is available here

there are 5 disagrees on the concept raster, but no one commented on it other than kopimi

Expand the content headers to be full width, or float them so the space to their right isn't empty.
I tried floating them with a 12px right margin, the 'Minecraft Servers starting at $3.50' header is too wide for that (could change the content?)
Add some kind of border or shadow to the Minecraft banner, it looks kind of weird just an image on a white background.
Tried box-shadow: 0 4px 8px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5) and I feel it helps, but could make it look a bit out of place I guess. No expert over here cap'n
Expand the footer to be full width instead of full content width or add some kind of left/right border to it rather than letting it just cut off.
Aside from those three little things, it looks pretty great.

I actually tried the shadow bit on the older revisions of the design, for some reason I dropped box-shadows on all of the divs. A very light shadow makes it look a bit more lively, I agree.
I appreciate you and kopimi giving me feedback like this, the specifics help. People telling me certain parts of the web site don't feel right is great, because if gives me a sense of something to be desired, but the specifics go the extra mile.

i was referring to this page: http://i.imgur.com/5d9sS.png
the two textures used just feel weird and out of place, maybe it's because the site is rather messy but its like he just went to the front page of subtlepatterns and got the most popular images and shoved them in, in lieu of actually thinking about how the patterns will contrast and look together, or how busy the page will seem.
btw i just noticed this:
its such a nice touch

yeah i think there's a best investment of time spent on just reworking the old design

i think you should seriously consider touching up your old design; it's so close to being a clean design that it kind of bothers me
your biggest issues are margins and padding, border widths, and lack of varying font weights. if you worked on addressing those issues, your site would look so much better
the site layout itself isn't that bad at all
It's kinda confusing to have two WAYWOs. You guys should rename your thread "Working On Websites, Stylesheets, Etc. Relentlessly" (WOWSER).

It's in a separate section so it isn't that confusing.

In my opinion you should add the yellowish background to "Why Us?", similar to the 3 boxes below; it looks out of place without it. Other than that and the stuff Weiss mentioned it looks fine to me.
I guess I should post some content instead of just shitting in the thread.
This is my totally boring empty website:

I'm done styling the menu, but I have no idea what to do for the body. And whether I should add some borders or trim or something. Suggestions are quite welcome. (I want minimalistic, but not boring.)
Design for my mums little cake business, was fun to make:

Anyone else make this mistake a lot in javascript?
var hangingcomma = { 'obj1': 'lol', 'key': 'value', };
Works great in IE8+, FF, Chrome but blows the bitch up in IE7. I'm just so used to doing it in Python where it's actually good practice to use a hanging comma (cue Charlie making a snide remark).

The only thing I don't personally like is the form gradients, considering the detail of the background the form inputs should be simple. The rest of it is awesome.

Thanks :)
I'll see what I can do about the forms.
Hey guys I'm trying to use html2canvas to take a snapshot of a webpage with javascript enabled, specifically one with a 3d model viewer like google's or wowhead's. The other javascript on the pages seem to work but not the model viewer. Any ideas why?

Wrong Thread
bigger masonry :o

it supports infinistream and it's responsize, and it's only 10~20 lines.
it basically just stores all the heights on each column, and adds the next image on the one with the lowest height.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
