You shouldn't be using portraits for backgrounds unless they incorporate into the site.
Would you suggest a texture/pattern background? and if so what color would be nice so that it's still lit up because the content is moderately bland.
Also forgot to say that this is a Html/Css website, haven't had time to do much fancy stuff to it.

Took the advice, used a very subtle background "use_your_illusion"

Want to rebuild my website. I build it as web dev practice several years back, so it's quite a mess. I could either build it up from the ground up again (meaning I need to invest quite some time, and possibly ending up with a mess again), or just grab a nice CMS and tweak that as I see fit. Recommendations? Maybe use some sort of framework I can build around?
I totally get that, not saying you should switch now with the time you've invested already. Just speaking from a developer standpoint. Magento works, but I'd definitely rather not work with Magento haha. My negative experience is also compounded by the fact that the initial build of this project was done by an indian development team who very obviously glazed over the grander scale architecture for the development of this and just spaghetti coded their way to feature complete.
The developers themselves have always said that Magento was built around features and not speed.
But yeah, in the end by switching to a VPS I've set up myself and doing some small optimization I got my website's initial loading time back to 4 seconds which, in my book, is acceptable.

By the way, I'd love to take a look at your Magento-powered website, if that would be possible.

If you find it fun to build websites from scratch and know that everything that is done is done by you, I would defiantly build it from scratch. + You have this forum to help you ;)

Is it not possible to round the corners on the ad container to make it feel less out of place?
or get one or a few companies that you customize adds for, like this guy: http://css-tricks.com
If they blended in like the ads on the new outlook.com I think it would be pretty cool.
Didn't know it was ads there, even tough I use it everyday :v: AdBlock is practical
They do in fact blend in very well.
Another benefit with creating custom ads is that they won't be removed by adblock extensions/programs
I find it hard coming up with a new domain name for my website. Mostly because I can't ask for opinions online without running the risk of some asshole parking it. And getting a serious answer from anyone on my community's IRC channel is like dredging a lake for gold.

Let's be honest, nobody will park your domain just because you've found a name and ask for feedback about it.

Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 555 555 5.5.2 Syntax error. dw10si2188633wib.8 (state 13).
Not legit until all SMTP servers supported the proposed standard, RFC 6531. Until then, you can use quotation marks and spaces, but not Unicode characters like U-umlaut.
