Never use the w3c ribbons they just look cheap. In fact it all looks quite cheap I'm sorry but it looks like a store page on Ebay from 5 years ago. Look at the points made by marius. Also the gradients really make it look dated. If you're going to use gradients make them quite subtle. The colour scheme also needs work it feels really washed out and bland.

All of the cheesy ideas such as the web counter and other stuff like that is my brothers idea. I think web counters are stupid but he wanted one so I put one in. The ribbons? I agree they don't fit in, I will probably remove them. To that one example above me, that looks very clean and seems to be popular amongst the unlocker sites. I will definitely be taking everyones advice here and hopefully make a less cheesy website. Thanks!

And tell your brother to use Google Analytics if he really wants to masturbate over the visit count. Nobody outside of him really cares.
Doing a group assignment for school, I have to make a login page for a market day bank system with a teacher part and a student part. How it works is that I have a username and password text box, a radio option thing to go to the teacher section or the student section, I don't have any php yet but I'm working on the html. What I want to know is if I can have 2 buttons, 1 labelled teacher and the other student, and it takes them to that respective page if the username and password they typed in has the right privileges. I'd also like to encrypt the passwords so I googled it and everyone says "use bcrypt", when I google how i get nothing remotely helpful. Does anyone have a link/willing to type up how i implement it?
Thought I would repost here because this thread seems more active and it fits. I realise it's "Hurr ask internet to do homework" but the button thing is just wanting to know if it's possible, and the bcrypt thing is just wanting to know if anyone knows where I could learn to do it myself.
I've taken everybody's advice thus far and have decided to make a mockup in Photoshop before I start doing any HTML. Feedback on how I can improve it is greatly appreciated.
Copy the mockup above a lot more closely, get rid of the logo and the text at the top, get rid of the buy now button and just have the unlock thing it looks scammy
Copy the mockup above a lot more closely, get rid of the logo and the text at the top, get rid of the buy now button and just have the unlock thing it looks scammy
I really don't see that looking good at all...if anything that would look more scammy.
I really don't see that looking good at all...if anything that would look more scammy.
That angry lime gradient text just sent everyone packing except the 40 year old who unintentionally installs 3-4 spyware toolbars a day. +1
So the green needs to go, any suggestions for a replacement?
Gab made you a really nice mock up and you seem to have taken that and very loosely made a re-design, but you are mashing fonts together that don't go well with each other at all, find some new fonts and get some colours that compliment each other, and lose the gradients on the text it doesn't fit the new simpler style
It feels so Word 2003. It's hard to explain.

Arial is the font that the website would use, and Myriad Pro is the one used in the graphics. I'm actually at a loss here...is it really a good idea to completely eliminate the banner portion of the website and only have what Terabyte/Gab did? I've honestly never seen a website that looks like that before, and I'm just used to having at least a site logo and some links up top. But if having no logo and stuff is a good idea, I guess I can do that. Are there any websites that I could look at as an example? Guess I'm learning new things as I go along.
I'd say ask tera for permission, and use the minimal design he showed on the previous page.. add simple links to the top, and maybe make a few content areas for other pages... Edit:
I've taken everybody's advice thus far and have decided to make a mockup in Photoshop before I start doing any HTML. Feedback on how I can improve it is greatly appreciated.
realizing now he said he lost the PSD, but it would be easy to re-create, couple things on your current design..as others said..the fonts..just don't go well, the logo, the features etc, it all looks stretched vertically..and the links and text on the page are so huge, if i was a common user looking to just jailbreak my iphone, and i found your site, i would assume it looks like a scam site looking for hidden fees, and would instantly click away from it.
I'd say ask tera for permission, and use the minimal design he showed on the previous page.. add simple links to the top, and maybe make a few content areas for other pages...
What do you mean by "content areas" for other pages? Are you saying have everything on just one page and links go down to where the content is?
read my above edited post, also..if you're trying to get your foot in the door to web design, keep trying at it, if you just want to sell your jailbreak to users, and are just looking for a front to sell it on..i'd take a some money from your bank and find a designer here, there are plenty of people here in need of money including me, who could easily give you a design in a hour or so, probably less. As i said, if you WANT to do design..keep trying..otherwise it's a waste of time, a professional look will come from you paying someone to do it for you..i just got off work..and i'm tired so i'm sure i'm repeating myself like hell right now..sorry. also side note: add something to the site to make users want to buy it..when there are so many other simple jailbreaking sites out there that do this kind of thing for free, you need to add something to attract users, and to get them to actually pay for it rather than finding it for free elsewhere

I didn't like the look of my first design (http://iphone-factory-unlocking.com) and decided to give a shot at making a V2 of the website. I'm trying to get feedback and opinions on the website design and also learn some new things along the way. I'm not asking anyone to design an entire website for me, I want to learn this stuff myself, but I haven't really made any cool looking websites before and I just want to see what other web designers think. I just want my brother's business to look legitimate and professional, he's already paid me for helping him immensely since he knows nothing about HTML. And BTW, this isn't "jailbreaking" it's an official factory unlocking service that doesn't require any software and permanently unlocks an iPhone. You unlock it through iTunes. None of the other factory unlock services are free.
ah okay so you want to learn more about design and do it, no worries! well then my suggestions are above along with, the harsh gradients on the logo text, and the unlock button, text size, also the 2 images of iphone, 1 of which is including 2 iphones in the image, not really required, just the one big one is good enough, honestly i would (since tera was going to give you it anyway assuming he doesn't mind) work on trying to re-create the design he made, add some navigation to the top, maybe a small simple logo text and ship it off! :P also the bright green color, try to make the colors go together a bit better, pick ones easy on the eyes

I'm doing everything I can to make this website presentable and professional. The old site has already gotten a good number of sales, so it seems people aren't too worried about the way it's being represented. Hopefully this new design (once finished) will be better. EDIT: I've eliminated most of the upper portion of the website, am I doing it right?
This is looking much better now, try making the button smaller as well as the font, the text at the top looks very vertically stretched not sure if you intended that, but it is looking cleaner
I probably stretched the text on accident somewhere along the line. I'll fix that, along with making the button smaller. EDIT: Alright, last pic I'll post for awhile yet. Is this simple enough?
I think the header still needs work and the Buy Now shouldn't be red but it is a big improvement yes
I think the header still needs work and the Buy Now shouldn't be red but it is a big improvement yes
"Buy Now" being bold red was my brother's idea - not mine. What do you think I should do to the header?
drop shadows that make it look as though the text is actually distanced from the page sucks and is terrible drop shadows should be for glows or ambient occlusion-esque shadows and for making it look like text is indented/highlighted on edges. if it actually looks like your text is "hovering" over the page it looks like text generated in Word with that stupid fancy text feature [editline]19th August 2012[/editline] the title font looks like it's been stretched vertically, find a different sans-serif font. remove periods from F.A.Q., don't highlight "Buy Now" just make it bold, make all the navbar text a bit smaller, put more horizontal distance between the picture of the iphone and the text to the right of it, move everything below the navbar down by like 10-20px and redesign the button entirely, it looks really bad.

What should I do instead of having a drop shadow? Just leave it flat text?
It's fine to call attention to the buy now button but it looks like you are trying too hard
As I said above, it was my brother who suggested that. Remember, I'm designing this website for someone else. I was just giving him what he wanted, if it was me personally, I wouldn't have made the "Buy Now" button bold red.
Little bit more padding on the text. It's too close to the iPhone for my liking.
