I got a Macbook Air (the bigger one) as a work computer few months ago. The very first day I got pissed at OSX so bad I installed Arch Linux on it immediately. :v: Love the trackpad, hate the keyboard. Wouldn't buy one myself. Not really worth it.
Why did you get pissed at OSX?
Since people are talking about laptops, I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a netbook for a £220 budget in the UK for doing WebDev while I get the train? Haven't managed to get answers elsewhere.
Why did you get pissed at OSX?
Installing command line utilities took me quite a while since I couldn't find good instructions for it. All I found was that I needed to install XCode and it would have them. Well I had to install them separately from XCode's settings. And even after I got them working, I couldn't get some other software working at all, even with my boss' pretty clear guide. Don't really remember what that stuff was. Haven't touched OSX after that day. I also don't like the UI at all. And the keyboard layout is fucking bullshit. [editline]25th August 2012[/editline] I also hate Apple and how they do things.
It isn't for everyone, it does a few things which I consider completely backwards. Also I can't live without Aero snap.
all the cool web designers use Macs.
let us know if it's worth the price, your personal opinion that is.
A Mac worth its price? Good joke man. (User was banned for this post ("Image macro" - Orkel))
It is worth the price if you can actually understand and appreciate why it's good.
It is not worth the price if you can actually understand why it's not good. Seriously though, it's really just an opinion yet again. It's worth it's price if it has everything you're looking for. For me it's just a crap OS on a overpriced hardware.

[editline]25th August 2012[/editline] And anyway, why do you think it's not good?
Who gives a shit, just use whatever you're most productive with.
Not sure why I got funnies in my last post. I'd rather get used to win8 instead of os x if it means I can start developing full windows apps with html and js.
Because you'll get the same level of functionality you get in a browser.
No you get more from what I've heard. You get full hardware access (motion sensors, camera, touchscreen, etc) for example. Local file access and desktop notifications are another thing. Not to mention the cool stuff you can do with snap view and live tiles.

[editline]25th August 2012[/editline] And anyway, why do you think it's not good?
Well it's a fully working OS and people are buying it and using it. Is it a bad product overall? Of course not. What makes it bad (for me) is those little things that I don't like. A lot of my dislike for it also comes from my hate towards Apple. I just don't like how Apple operates. Like how they sue Samsung over such a little fucking insignificant thing like rounded corners on a motherfucking rectangle.
Like how they sue Samsung over such a little fucking insignificant thing like rounded corners on a motherfucking rectangle.
Samsung lost on everything except that one btw. Apple is not allowed to patent a rectangle with rounded corners. Samsung has to pay around 1bil to apple.
I just don't like how Apple operates. Like how they sue Samsung over such a little fucking insignificant thing like rounded corners on a motherfucking rectangle.
I personally don't bother myself with those things. I just want a product that has a good design and makes me feel good and productive.
I just don't like how Apple operates. Like how they sue Samsung over such a little fucking insignificant thing like rounded corners on a motherfucking rectangle.
when a company sits down and actually has a meeting about how they should copy a competitor, they deserve to.be sued
One day i will buy Apple, i'm now more a banana's guy now.
http://www.theverge.com/2012/8/8/3227289/samsung-apple-ux-ui-interface-improvement However much I dislike Apple, they really do deserve this.
Direction for Improvement. Pretty much non of these were actually implemented into Samsung's products. It just some suggestions that were made after the SGS came out.
I have no idea why samsung is trying to clone apple. Almost everyone I know wants to remove touchwizz and use stock android anyway.
I have no idea why samsung is trying to clone apple. Almost everyone I know wants to remove touchwizz and use stock android anyway.
I'm just speculating here, but maybe it's because they weren't even able to copy it properly and made it look awful.
Is that when you buy it or can you get one later and replace it? I think it would be possible for me to replace the optical unit with an SSD, although I'm not sure I like doing that kind of hacks.
goto best buy they have the hybrid drives sitting next to the normal hard drive, should say compatible with:osx, windows, etc..flip your macbook over, undo the bottom screw, take it off, undo the screws to the hard drive casing, pop old hdd out, throw new one in, screw it all back together, throw your osx disk on, boot, install osx, done! :P this may help, it's actually really simple, although i'm not sure if opening it up voids apple care, or your warranty, you can call them and ask..but don't let them do it..they will charge you out the ass to replace a hard drive, unless you got apple care too. why does ie9 have better font rendering than Chrome? the horrible aliasing you get on text in Chrome has been around for ages now, surely something must be done about it soon?
why does ie9 have better font rendering than Chrome? the horrible aliasing you get on text in Chrome has been around for ages now, surely something must be done about it soon?
It looks almost as if they've decided to keep it like that forever
Just read somewhere that it's like that because it doesn't use a font renderer separate to your OSes, like Firefox and other browsers do. Apparently it's "resource intensive". Even if it really is intensive, it should be there - enabled by default - as an optional extra. It's a bit silly because at the moment IE9 seems to have the best font rendering, it completely ignores ClearType on Windows which is what it seems Chrome uses.

im having so much trouble coming up with a design in photoshop :/ do you guys do anything specific to get inspiration, like go to the bathroom or a happy place or some stupid shit like that?
I really like OSX [t]http://www.niggaupload.com/images/8Csg.png[/t] Nifty [editline]26th August 2012[/editline] Plus the text anti-aliasing is just... I can't look at Windows anymore.

Local file access and desktop notifications are another thing. Not to mention the cool stuff you can do with snap view and live tiles.
With WebRTC you get access to the camera, not sure what you mean by access to the touch screen, do you mean gestures? If so Apple introduced their own Touch Events API that has been implemented in iOS as well as mostly in Android and the W3C are working on an official Touch Events API. You can get local file access using the File API. You can get desktop notifications using the Notifications API. Granted, most of these aren't implemented fully but you're highly underestimating the capabilities of modern web browsers. [editline]a[/editline] I would link to more sources but my connection keeps on getting dropped because I'm leeching a neighbors wifi.
