I can't live without a wireless mouse :O
Plus the text anti-aliasing is just... I can't look at Windows anymore
http://code.google.com/p/gdipp/ I have been thinking about getting a macbook air for some time, I think your posts here have pushed me over the edge.
Working on this for somebody: How can I make it look nicer? I'm really bad at design.
[t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/36/Apple_magic_mouse.jpg[/t] This thing, jesus christ, its the most uncomfortable thing ever. Apple may be good at industrial design but they blow when it comes to ergonomics.
For how long have you used it? Because if you actually get past the ignorant prejudices of the first 10 minutes you'll find that it's very good. Same goes for the keyboard and everything else.
They really are. Crampy hands every time. Even after two years of using a mac kb + mouse my hands still feel as if they've been underneath a cartwheel the past two hours.
I love the mac keyboard, but I hate the mouse.
I don't mind the keyboard itself. It types pretty well. It's the awkward positioning of the brackets, braces and other programming-related keys that confuses and pains me.
That's just a matter of getting used to it.
How can I make it look nicer? I'm really bad at design.
Hire a web designer from here.
Woot one of my books arrived. I didn't really need this book. But there are some interesting things in it that I didn't know. Either way. You really can't beat paying a penny for an entire book.

Never realized how difficult it is to post images from your phone lol
You really can't beat paying a penny for an entire book.
How? Heck, I want that too.

yeah i mean, you're going to pay a little bit more, because of the tax, and the shipping, but looking at each of these books worth being 30-50$ a piece..i payed a total of about 19$ for all 4, because of the shipping etc
Aww, Ruby on Rails not available [editline]28th August 2012[/editline] Ugh what the hell, now it's quoting me $8.95 shipping to Canada for the CSS book
Aww, Ruby on Rails not available [editline]28th August 2012[/editline] Ugh what the hell, now it's quoting me $8.95 shipping to Canada for the CSS book
awe sorry i might've grabbed the last one, but keep looking around, there are DOZENS of books that cheap on the site [editline]28th August 2012[/editline]
Hm, looks pretty thick. Is it useful?
I haven't had enough time today to fully look through it, but i've been working with css for about 6 years now, and there are things in here i didn't even know about, this book from the quick look i gave it, covers basics to decently advanced. And from what i saw, CSS1? i think it mentioned, to the new an up to date css3, Here is the table of contents.
Chapter 1 What is CSS? - css verions - Linking css to web documents - Media Queries - Standards Mode, Quirks Mode, and Doctype Sniffing - summary Chapter 2 General Syntax And Nomenclature - Statements - At-Rules - Rule Sets - Selectors - Declaration Blocks - Declarations, Properties, and Values - Keywords - Lengths and Units -
okay i'm not typing 18 chapters worth of listings so i found it online lol http://www.sitepoint.com/books/cssref1/toc.php in the book, while it teaches you each thing in css, it had a bar beside it, telling you which browser that certain function is or is not compatible with :P
wanted to practice layouting and css and shit made this top bar thing
Looks pretty spiffy. Maybe decrease the border radius of the blue buttons (search, go) to match the smaller border radius on the tabs.
Looks pretty spiffy. Maybe decrease the border radius of the blue buttons (search, go) to match the smaller border radius on the tabs.
I made the border radius bigger because it matched the tabs too much.

where in the world do you live? that's insane lol [editline]29th August 2012[/editline] ah, the U.K...lol that's why, they ship inside the U.S. so anyone outside the U.S. i assume shipping is going to be crazy considering these books weight a few pounds each
Just a warning:- According to Amazon UK, the purple RoR book has no useful content, and the site point RoR book is now severely outdated.
For how long have you used it? Because if you actually get past the ignorant prejudices of the first 10 minutes you'll find that it's very good. Same goes for the keyboard and everything else.
My school's got a few imacs with those GODAWFUL mice. Though my gripes may partially be because I've got fairly big hands and thus can't quite grip them comfortably. So you can kinda understand my reaction when I found out that when I went to buy my imac, the original owner got a trackpad with it. LOOK AT ME, I'M FUTURISTIC UP IN THIS BITCH!
Just a warning:- According to Amazon UK, the purple RoR book has no useful content, and the site point RoR book is now severely outdated.
I saw that too, the highest star it got was 3/5 and that was only by 1 person. The rest said you may as well just look online.
Made a file database system thingy with stats and .zip content displays :D [editline]29th August 2012[/editline] Maybe I should enable individual downloads, but I'm not sure how to track that. (I love stats)
Just something I've been working on - it's nowhere near done but it will be a cocktail sharing platform.
Decided to rethink the logo - and in turn the site completely: Better? [editline]30th August 2012[/editline] I darkened the indented bits, the constrast is better, but is there enough contrast?
Decided to rethink the logo - and in turn the site completely: Better?
You should add a bit more contrast, it's very hard to read right now.
It isn't for everyone, it does a few things which I consider completely backwards. Also I can't live without Aero snap.
Get Better Touch Tools. It's basically Aero snap but better for OSX. Not to mention you can set up the most ridiculous gestures. For example twirling two fingers clockwise pulls up my music, plays my power playlist, and closes all other programs except for my IDE. Twirling counterclockwise brings up Reddit, Facebook, and Hacker News. On the fly power working and power playing. [editline]30th August 2012[/editline]
Installing command line utilities took me quite a while since I couldn't find good instructions for it. All I found was that I needed to install XCode and it would have them. Well I had to install them separately from XCode's settings.
Use brew or macports....or be a bad ass and compile from source like a champ.
I also don't like the UI at all. And the keyboard layout is fucking bullshit.
UI is clean and fresh, but fine, to each his own. Keyboard layout is awesome, you just have to learn a lot of the OSX tricks to be a master (Command + arrow keys etc).
I also hate Apple and how they do things.
Well that's a great argument considering they're the most valuable company in the world and based on their economic fundamentals they are still undervalued by at least $150/share. [editline]30th August 2012[/editline]
After 15 minutes of programming with a Mac keyboard my hands hurt and I just want it to end.
You sure you're not talking about an iPhone? Seriously, Apple spent years of development on making the Mac chiclet keyboard one of the most pleasant and pleasing devices to type on. [editline]30th August 2012[/editline]
[t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/36/Apple_magic_mouse.jpg[/t] This thing, jesus christ, its the most uncomfortable thing ever. Apple may be good at industrial design but they blow when it comes to ergonomics.
Don't grip it like a motherfucking stress ball. Most people hold their mice in a way that's basically a death grip. For the Magic Mouse, your hand is supposed to just lightly lie behind it and you move it around with your fingers rather than your whole hand. Although I will admit it really really sucks at first. Once you get used to how to hold it, you'll like it better than a normal mouse, especially for sensitive work like pixel pushing.
[t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/36/Apple_magic_mouse.jpg[/t] This thing, jesus christ, its the most uncomfortable thing ever. Apple may be good at industrial design but they blow when it comes to ergonomics.
Could be because you're trying to hold it like you'd hold any other mouse? Seriously, don't do that. I see people at work doing it every day and it makes me cringe. If you do that and then you say it's uncomfortable then you're retarded. This is how you hold it. [editline]30th August 2012[/editline] And that mouse is precise as fuck. I can literally pick the exact pixel i need without even pointing at it. With my other mouse it's just a struggle to point it right. And I'm on my max speed setting.
