My pet conspiracy theory is that Microsoft deliberately made IE shit in an attempt to stifle the Web because they knew it posed a threat to Windows.
If the majority of applications move to the web, that effectively commoditizes the operating system. If Linux or Mac OS X can browse the web as well as Windows, why are people going to keep going with Windows?
Anyway, they've now realised that strategy isn't working out so they've decided to play ball and support the Web while also pushing for a huge non-web app facelift in Windows 8 in an attempt to stay relevant.
Just wait until the web moves even more forward and they get left behind again. They'll probably wait until Windows 9 to release IE11.
I'v decided to try out PS 6 instead of Paint.NET which has been my companion for years. From now on, I'm going to use 4x the time I used in Paint.NET to create stuff, but hopefully I will get back to my previous effectiveness when I get used to the whole PS thing.
Use CS5, CS6 introduces a few major flaws in terms of web design.

Me. One of the first things I noticed is that it would take far longer to move around a layer or a group of layers. You'd literally get to see a progress bar when moving a lot of things together. I'm not the only one who experienced it (even though the page says it's been fixed and I can't test because it was on another PC. Among other things, it has a lot of improvements and things that make work better, but there have been a few changes in the way you access tools and deal with them (and with text, too) which make it a little bit harder to deal with. I prefer to stick with my copy of CS5 (also because it's a legit student copy and I am not allowed to upgrade with a discount).
CS 6 is much more advanced than Paint.NET ..
I use 10min to find one thing that was just a click in Paint.NET :v:
And the fact that CS 6 changes my color when saved is really annoying. At least I found out a way to make it show the right color in the working area. I still have to use the color #323232 for #222 (Don't remember exact value).
I have CS 5 on my school computer, so I guess I'll try CS 5 when I get back to school (My school laptop is on the school, to lazy to bring it home)
[editline]16th October 2012[/editline]
And there is a lot of useless stuff in the UI.. luckily u can disable it

Look up how to disable color profiles.

That's better! Thanks
Now.. how to make those fancy lines which other elements snaps to?
View > Show > Smart Guides
View > Snap To > ###

They're called guides, drag them from the ruler (Ctrl+R to enable)
Oh right I thought he was asking about automatic snapping.
Ya, I meant those "guides". Thanks.
Two more question, if you don't mind :)
1. How can I place them to be exactly what I want? It's impossible to do it with the mouse, because it jumps over the number..
2. PS seems to like using pt, instead of px. Can I change that somewhere?
[editline]16th October 2012[/editline]
Four questions*
3. Can I remove the lines that outline the shapes I create?
4. What is the point of a background Layer I can't do anything except changing color? How to create a transparent image then?
1. Draw a square selection with one of the edges where you want the guide to be and snap the guide to its edge
2. Preferences > Units & Rulers > Select units
3. If I'm understanding correctly, you just have to click on another layer or away from your shape (only works if you're using automatic selection – which you should)
4. If it's the only layer you cannot remove it. Create a new layer and then remove the fill layer.

3. ctrl + h removed the outline + the guide lines. Which is want I wanted. Easier to preview that way :)
And thanks again!
When I'm working with guides and trying to create guides that should outline an existing element, I CTRL+ click the layer's thumbnail to select all the pixels then just drag my guide to the edge of the selection. Similar to what Tera said but in some cases it's way more accurate. Obviously it doesn't work on single layer images, but it has helped me quite a few times. Especially when I need to recreate a rounded rectangle or something like that.

1. Hold [shift] while dragging a guide to snap it to the closest "tick mark" on the ruler. Holding [ctrl] disables all snapping of the guide. Holding [alt] swaps it between a vertical/horizontal guide.
2. You can also quickly change the units that the rulers are using if you right-click on them.

3. [ctrl]+[click] a guide and you can drag it back up the ruler to remove it.

Those are pretty nice. I don't understand the last one though. Isn't it already possible to drag it up to the rulers to get rid of it?

It's possible if you're using the arrow tool, but not if you're using anything else. If you hold down ctrl when you're using any other tool, it temporarily switches to the arrow tool. So essentially, it's a separate shortcut with some semblance of added functionality in this specific usage case.

All the tips was useful tough. Many thanks :)

Good for a first website. (I'm assuming this is coded, and not just a design?).
But have a look at my opinions below - you may not agree with them, but you asked for feedback.
Negative Aspects:
1. All the navigation buttons have the same text. (Minor, and probably still WIP)
2. Look into a better font-choice that would match the aim of the website better (Usually Sans-Serif fonts work best).
(See above posts relating to google-fonts)
3. Align the paragraph text with the headings.
4. Don't centrally-align paragraphs of text (more than one line).
5. Align the "Column head" with the header on the left-side.
6. Even spacing between the navigation items "Option1..."

Thanks for feedback! The 5th pointed out a thing I totally didn't notice. And the 3rd is a good advice, I will try it.
But why shouldn't I centrally align text?
HTML and CSS, no js or php yet. I will practice my js and php using that website too

Once that is done, I can talk then :D

Yeah that's a good question. I decided it is an information site. Let's say it is a website containing information about me.

Hell it looks so yummy so I don't even want to add images
Seeing as i'm getting rid of my VPS at the end of the month, I needed webhosting. So I figured the "easiest" route to go was to just push it all onto tumblr and make it work somehow. And while in the process, I needed a new theme that was compatible with tumblr.
The only image used in the following screenshots is the skull logo (which is SVG with fallback PNG). Everything else is fully html/css.
First screenshot of progress

Added multi-column support for monitors that are 1280px+. I might add triple column support, but I would have no way to personally test it. I have min-width set at 768px.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/232lo.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/dzBhd.png[/t]
Added in lorem ipsum filler, and made it so every paragraph except the 1st had an ident. Also fucked about with padding a little bit.

Date will be clickable, bringing you to all of the posts that were made on that date. I also started working on figuring out where to place the tags/notes and various other links.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/HZ8TO.png[/t]
I'm currently trying to improve all of the font/text, as it's always the part I struggle with the most. fuck font, man.
I also hope to have a tumblr-compatible copy up by tomorrow.
stuff
I understand it's probably not final but in case it is, I think you shouldn't use a serif typeface for this kind of page.

Yea, i kept trying tons of different fonts, of different sizes and weights, with different line-heights and letter-spacing, and what is found in those screenshots was me literally giving up and saying "fuck fonts". I was planning on doing it nearly last, but here's a screenshot of a quick arial tweak:
Arial 12pt, 20pt line-height, justified, with 30px margin on left/right (compared to the original 20).

From the first msdn win 8 app tutorial. :v:
I'd suggest PT Sans, Droid Sans, Open Sans or Source Sans Pro. You can find them on Google Fonts.
