A logo for my dad.
Perhaps you could try making the colors a little more vibrant, and see how those look? They seem a little too dark right now.

Oh god that's such a weird but awesome idea.

these 'startup weekends' seem more like a hack weekend kinda thing (like railscamp) more than anything you'd launch a business out of
Um....they are basically hackathons with a business side. Half the people make shit, half monetize it.
Last one I went to I made that meeting metrics app (meetrx.com). Afterwards, we had an efficiency expert come talk to us about possibly using it with the businesses he deals with. Usually, their more about making sustainable businesses then making fun stuff.
Rap Roulette could make money too from a bunch of shit: Buy the current playing song, buy upgrades for your avatar (although this might be too TF2ish), and advertising/sponsorship by record companies and other hiphop businesses.
Design got butchered :pwn: (I did dev after the mockup) and we're still working on getting the videos working but here it is: http://raproulette.fm

Usually I mockup designs in Photoshop before developing, but I've decided to try designing in the browser this time. It's painfully slow, but at least I'm learning.
I've also started using CSS3 animations, and I really wish I had used them on my previous projects.

Hello, next time please use [t][/t] tags instead of [img][/img] or else the image will appear huge and take lots of space. Also possibly limit the area of your screenshot to the significant parts of your design (in this case cutting away the browser chrome, the bar at the bottom and most of the insignificant grey space.
Here's some feedback:

I'm assuming you're using a font-size of 13px here, so try setting a line-height of 13 * phi (google can calculate this for you, but at any rate it's the golden ratio multiplied by your font size). It'll help readability.

This already looks good, but I think it could be even better if you vertically aligned the text to the image (basically having the text start a bit before the vertical middle of the image and ending a bit after).

I've never seen a price tag floating around like that without a thread connected to the item that's being sold!
Here's a quick'n'dirty edit with a better (IMO) vertical balance:

On a side note, I've made a quick PHP directory tree script:

You should post this in the Graphic Design thread. People there have a little more hindsight in logos and such. I'm pretty sure there are a couple of ways to improve the logo as right now is a bit dull.

They ended up using the old one anyway :v:

Okay, here's the story. Wear your anti-cringe goggles.
This is the finished document that my dad sent to the leader of the group:
[t]http://gabrielecirulli.com/p/20120123-164028.png[/t]
(it's a screenshot of the pdf, zoomed out)
The leader then replied that my dad should change the logo because he doesn't like the redesign and he likes the old one instead for its vibrant colors and harmony:

Then he said (translated from Italian):
"Be careful about the font you use. In newsletters certain fonts are to be used which have been recognized among the easiest to read on screen. If I manage to find the site where I read this, I'll send it to you.
I know that the font called ARIEL was listed among those, along with another one which was considered even better"
(ariel = arial)
The one used on the newsletter is Helvetica.

I agree, it is pretty horrible. I see where they're going with the MegaUpload style layout though. Maybe they'll tweak it later, the site just looks like a place-holder for now (On the FAQ page link works).

Yeah, check out the source.
They also used Helvetica Neue and renamed it as anonyfont2 to disguise it.
