Haven't posted in a while, haven't really been doing much work on my website since work on the web dev unit at college has been slow. Decided to do my Moodboard and once I'd finished I thought I'd do some more work on my website for the hell of it.

Nowhere near finished, I'll be adding some images in the content box later on, once I'm told what I need to add in. Other than that, what do you think guys?
Wow someone already tried to drop my database tables with SQL injection, didn't work
I present you with FacepunchFor56kAndBadCellPhones™

I added some events to generic forums
I tried my best to make it look rails-ish

Not sure if I've posted this here before but I redid the profiler/timeline.

Gives you a better overview of what is actually happening and what takes the longest.
I'm also trying to get GIFs working as right now as ImageMagick only takes the first frame when it tries to watermark it.
I am personally sick of rails. It's great when you play along with the "Rails way" of doing things, but as soon as you want to stray from the beaten path its hours of googling and hacks out the wazoo. Even if the messiness is just because I don't know the proper way of doing things, I feel like the massiveness of rails is partly to blame. 9/10 times when I look up how to do something in rails, the solution is "install this plugin!" which just makes your app even more bloated, mysterious, and hard to fix when things don't work the way you want.
Try node.js - it seems to be getting a lot of traction lately and it's not hard if you know javascript. There still can be a slight feeling of "install this!" (or in node's case "npm install ...") but it does feel less "massive." And it runs on Google's V8 engine which is pretty cool. Heroku also supports it. Downside is there aren't very many good tutorials because it's so new and constantly changing

I actually see that in design portfolios all the time for some reason

Still been working on this chat at college and when I've been awake, at home. Managed to get JavaScript pulling the video ID from a URL (thanks to someone on stack overflow) and tidied all my code to give more structure on the front-end.
After all the NSFW shit going on the other day, I added a feature that would hide all images people have sent and any more images are then hidden with a "click to view" instead. All the commands are now chat commands instead of ugly prompt windows (apart from login), and there's more commands on the administrator side including an announcement feature that allows you to enter raw code for developer purposes or custom announcements.
There was also an exploit that if someone linked an image to the administrator command script and an admin viewed it, it would execute it. Found it through recycling old code, token saves the day again.

It's time for bed.

Made this a little while ago, went through a couple of revisions before now but it is all my work. There are probably technical things that you will pick up that I've not noticed, which is why I'm posting it here. My website:

Any hints on what I should change, if anything? Thanks.

I plan to change the profile picture in the About page, it is very old.
^^something is quite distracting. Can't seem to concentrate on content easily.
^^something is quite distracting. Can't seem to concentrate on content easily.
Thanks, but what do you find distracting? I kept the content intentionally minimalistic since, for a programming blog, I would like it to be non-distracting.
I love the new chrome update. Especially the new tab page.

Can't be sure about what is that. Seems to be the font style, spacing and background color. It's like I cannot read the text fast enough.
May be the problem is with me. Probably wait for other guys opinion.

I wish they'd put the google bar on that page so I don't have to go to google.com to switch between gmail, calendar, google+ etc.
Which hosting is the cheaper and reliable one ?
I need one with ssl certificate and dedicated ip. Basically testing paypal express checkout.
My personal website hosting doesn't support https :(
Or is there any other way to test using localhost ?
I knocked this up last night and some today at work.
The colours could use some work..
Made a couple of changes. Opinions on font style and spacing?

Would you please remove the dot in the navigation menu. "Blog." "About."
Good idea. I plan to change that to text instead of an image, as well as changing the font. Thanks.

Also make the title link to "/" not "/index.html"
[editline]14th December 2012[/editline]
Aaaannnndddd don't use images for the links in to top bar/the logo. It's just plain text.

Mind explaining why?
Mind explaining why?
I think it's to clean up the link.
Mind explaining why?
Looks cleaner and more professional.
Okay I did that with the links, however if I try to access the root document from the about page, it appends index.html again. Any ideas why?
Aha. I was being stupid. I have an about.html in the root folder as well as an about/index.html. I was editing the wrong document.
I think it's to clean up the link.
Less SEO friendly, though, if I'm not mistaking.
Less SEO friendly, though, if I'm not mistaking.
It's easier to crawl for Google etc. Google sometimes mistakens the blah.com/index.XXX for a different page as blah.com/
Less SEO friendly, though, if I'm not mistaking.
its probably more SEO friendly because you're not referring to the same page with different urls
