Been working on my portfolio/personal site over the past few weeks. Finally in a state where I can say I'm pretty happy with it. Any suggestions?

Pretty sure that's for making it mobile and tablet compatible ;)

Web moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I think you misunderstood him.
Take a look at the text at the bottom of the picture.

Fixed that now, thanks.

The background is a clickable element (if you have JS enabled), it seems more proper that it use the pointer cursor.

I disagree. It's not an active element (meaning that it does not represent an action that has consequences on the experience of the user and doesn't bring them anywhere) and clicking it in itself won't do anything, you have to drag for it to have an effect.

You should make a logo for it, that would make it all come together nicely. Right now having just the textual logo makes it seem so nearly complete, but still lacking one thing.

Yay! Rounded edges!
Haven't bothered to finish it, but I made a little more progress today. I plan on putting project details under the selection panel:
Honestly I'm open to suggestions on what it should look like. It'd be a blog format, with posts in chronological order, with fixed pages for things like contact information. Same format as my existing blog: http://hexxeh.net (not not necessarily that style and not Wordpress)
Just an idea that popped up in my head.

Pretty nice. I don't like the "expand" thing, though, just showing the full post would be best, since I don't really write long posts. Generally just an image/video and a bit of text.
Can't find a php_memcached.dll that works in win8.
lol windows for web development
[editline]28th December 2012[/editline]
If you were on a sane system, you could just compile php_memcached yourself.
I strongly suggest installing Linux in a VM if you'd like to continue using Windows for other stuff. Moving off Windows was probably one of the best things I ever did regarding development.
Everyone at the company uses Windows. And its a lot easier for me and my colleagues to show each other how things are done when on the same system. Especially because I'm an intern and they have to show me a lot of stuff.
Who was the guy that made something with packages for package control for sublime? And the link...

But windows 8 for development? C'mon now at least use windows XP.

Or even Vista, seeing as it's probably less aggravating than Win8.
What's with the hate for Windows 8 ?
What's with the hate for Windows 8 ?
I don't really think there's any hate for any platforms really.
It's more of a joke.
"Windows"
See?
What's with the hate for Windows 8 ?
yeah I don't get it either, no one can produce actual reasoning for hating 8 when I ask
The new SmartScreen feature in Windows 8 supposedly tells Microsoft about the application you're installing along with your IP address.
The above + Metro is the only reasons at this time why I don't switch to Win8.
Seeing as I've not wanted to put down any time to find anything else that I don't like about it I don't have any other arguments. Why bother when I don't want it in the first place, right?
not to turn this into an OS discussion so this is my last comment..
you use the start screen for about 3 seconds to select your program (and searching is faster too..), everything else is pretty much the exact same (just faster)
oh and it boots so much faster...I'm pretty sure you can get into Windows 8 and load the desktop before Windows 7 would finish loading
that being said I'm not going to attack anyone or anything, I just find Windows 8 superior in every single way

Installing Linux for web development? What benefits does that bring?
The inability to run Photoshop/Illustrator/Fireworks natively
Installing Linux for web development? What benefits does that bring?
for some reason I tend to focus better on Linux
plus all of my servers are Ubuntu so I can set up a virtually identical environment for when things go live
Installing Linux for web development? What benefits does that bring?
i have no idea why you'd want to use windows to do serious web development, considering a majority of web services are on linux and many platforms for web development circulate development on linux
Installing Linux for web development? What benefits does that bring?
For me, development in general is usually easier to get done with Linux, mainly because I don't have to worry a whole lot about the pats of libraries and stuff, if I use them.
I'm also a developer who uses Ruby as his backend, and Linux is amazing for this. I hear OS X is great for that too.
[editline]27th December 2012[/editline]
Let me expand on how it helps. You can quickly set up a prototype of a entire webservice or a forum or whatever, usually with one or only a few commands, with the right tools installed (be that for Ruby or Python)
