The related submissions remind me of ads.
If you guys really want to push people to submit more it might be worth having a whole bar drop down below the nav that's a nice highlight color that pushes people to submit. Maybe if someone views x submissions or up/down votes x submissions the bar comes down and says "We're glad you're enjoying the site, all our great content comes from our users. Give us a hand and submit something of your own!" or something like that.
I woke up at 4 this morning with builders playing Taylor Swift's break-up songs so I spent an hour or so in photoshop. For some reason I work at my best when I'm tired.

Looks cramped up. May be give some space to the center content.
I can't stand your sidebar related scrolling....it's not fun to use at all.
And pump that shit full of content. I didn't get Troll Science to 5 million views a month without first pumping it full of the best 100 comics I could find and then making a comment/rating generator.
There is NOTHING wrong with using 15 different users and submitting tons of comments and content under their names. Fun fact, there's a lot of news websites that do the same thing. HuffPo used to do it like crazy a few years back.
Trust me. I used to build little picture blog sites all the time and I didn't have success until I STARTED faking it.
Fake it until you make it. It's how all the big guys got there.

There is no problem doing it. It would just look dumb.
I can just delay the fade away, but that would look pretty silly when it scrolls to a part already visible. ex. "#about".
I can however try to experiment and see if I get something I like.

I agree with the others, seems quite claustrophobic now that you've got so much going on at each side.
Would a horizontal scrolling row of related thumbnails just underneath the tags work better?
I like Kmart's suggestion of the bar sliding down from beneath the navigation as well.

Doing another video today on how to jazz up a plain rug by painting a pattern on it.
