On the topic of doing web design mockups, I've read that Apple's Keynote is meant to be really good. It can do master templates, has really smart grid lines, etc, that make doing mockups super quick and easy.
After reading several times that Ruby and Ruby On Rails is worth a try, I decided to install it and check it out. Just started with it, so I'm currently going trough: http://guides.rubyonrails.org/getting_started.html It kind of looks like what I always looked for in terms of a programming language and Framework.
Taking that dive myself at the moment, struggling to find time with UNI though.

I'm not that great with design, however my site desperately needed redoing, so any pointers regarding this? http://jack-morris.co.uk

http://itschat.meteor.com/ Just a quick test of Meteor. Quite neat, but nothing more than a toy until they implement proper authorization. (And please, don't look at the code. When I said quick, I meant it.) Edit: Really mature, guys... Anyway, I love how it automatically reloads the app when I deploy a new version.
I don't like the font you're using as a logo and contact. Apart from that, it looks awesome. I'm not sure about the logo though, I like the idea of some sort of curly font, have you got any suggestions?
designed this snippit up... hopefully I'm not infringing on brettjay's turf [editline]12th April 2012[/editline] (it's like, magnified 5-10x actual size) [editline]12th April 2012[/editline] hmm [editline]12th April 2012[/editline] the baseline of droid sans looks fucked on the 2. also where the left part of the 'y' comes in there's a weird jagged edge.
One of my web dev assignments was to create two pages which demonstrate JavaScript interactivity. I might have went slightly overboard. I'm not sure what kind of mini-applications to build in. [t]http://puu.sh/p6iZ[/t] [editline]11th April 2012[/editline] (yeah, I can't use photoshop properly, a photorealistic mac was never going to happen)
Here's the source of my chat app: https://github.com/itsbth/meteor-chat As I said earlier, it's quick and dirty, and it has one rather glaring flaw (which is a problem with the meteor platform).

http://rulssi.kapsi.fi/index.php Arr tons of CSS warnings, got to start fixing those and cleaning up the code anyway. Still got tons of stuff to do before that though.
http://pulsefeed.com/ Pushed out some major updates: http://blog.pulsefeed.com/post/15 And also redesigned my blog for fun: http://pointlessramblings.com :)

Just finished the chapter which is covering TDD. I find this approach quite interesting... it makes you actually think of what you want before you start. ( Something I have been only doing for general functions and not as specific. )

I would rate you artistic, but my firefox thinks its js isn't enabled.

Personally I always code first, test later.
Would love some ups from any HN users who like Pulsefeed: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3834545 :)

Facebook based login is pretty easy, I'm using my framework (https://github.com/Fizzadar/Fanatical-Dev-Core) which streamlines the entire process into a simple $user->login_facebook(), after sending them out on a $user->fb_out();
If TDD works for you, then by all means go for it. Just keep in mind that you don't have to do it. Personally I always code first, test later.
Yeah one thing to definitely keep in mind is that TDD doesn't mean you always write all your tests first, because sometimes you don't know how something is going to work until you can prototype it or you start playing around with it. I probably stick to TDD about 60% of the time. I do prefer it when it's possible though because generally my tests end up being a lot more thorough. [editline]12th April 2012[/editline] Oh and another important thing, whenever possible make sure your tests are testing behavior not implementation.
So I was asked to make a logo for a landscaping company, even though I don't make logos. I told them this and that the best I could do is put something pre-made and some text on, and they were totally fine with that. How much would you charge? I feel like I can't charge them lots because that would be wrong and it's not really that good. I can't really complain for 3 minutes of work.
Notepad++ has a document map feature now, good for those who held back and didn't purchase sublime.
Ugh, I forgot how ugly Notepad++ looks without customizing the hell out of it
