Something like that would be awesome on google glass
My friend's planning on getting an occulus rift and a cheapo webcam to create our own ghetto google glasses.
it'd be this giant hunk but it's something to work with.
Me and my friend have been interested in augmented reality and displays through google glass for a long time. We know that the technology for displaying things on a glass screen or displaying by transmitting directly to the eye will exist sooner or later, we just want to start developing the software behind it.
The problem right now is just knowledge. I'm 18 and my friend's 20, and we know little to nothing about computer vision. The videos I'm posting is like 4 years behind everyone else, we're trying to catch up.
You could actually do it realistically though... Have a bunch of nodes each run a simulation on a bunch of the stars at a time. As long as they don't interact, you don't have to do anything. Then have something render the stars at the positions the nodes calculate.
This would be completely and utterly useless, and a waste of money, but hell, why not.
I feel like one day, if I have money to blow I'd do this shit. But probably by then, cloud computing would work more efficiently and wouldn't be "utterly useless".
Well, I'm working with a partner on perfecting it. Me and him want to make a mobile app that lets you play billiards with an "aimbot".
It's what we call one of our first steps into the realms of augmented reality.
Right now we just need to detect the plane of the pool table top. I'm doing markerless detection first so that I can track a simple card or plane.
Android beta tester here! I've beta tested a bunch of games off Reddit, FacePunch's so-called, currently abandoned mobile app, InstaWiFi and many more!

Rent a bunch of amazon ec2 instances for a few hours and run it on those :)
Now I have units drawing lines on the map. Next step, some sort of simple AI that can't cross the land/water/mountain boundery. I have a feeling that the type of pathfinding that was being talked about here earlier (about the sheet and falling to the lowest point) would be helpful given the noise map I have, to make the movement look more natural.

are you enjoying Python SFML? Have you used pygame? There's some things I can't really stand with pygame, but I've never used anything else so I wouldn't even know anything else.
Always thought about making something like that, but having a projector above the table and having a deus-ex like interface on the pool table
idk if you mean something like this or not but it's pretty cool either way.

Finally reached page 7, I had to throw up about 5 times while reading all posts, I especially love the posts made by the guy that believes his little unicode experience makes him an expert in other areas. Pain in the ass v.37 - Thats what this is.
Edit: "What are you working on" != "How to do shit better because I believe I know how"

I find it funny how we have constructive discussions here and then someone always tries to ruin it.

Kind of. It would tell you which spot to be in to hit a ball to a certain spot, and how hard.
[editline]27th March 2013[/editline]
It'd be something I'd ask for.
So I've got a confirmed internship for the next year, and I'll be working with Objective C to develop iOS games. I wonder how long I'll last with Objective C before I'll kill myself.
Anyone have any good readings for learning Objective C?

I haven't used pygame, but I read a bit about it and (correct me if I'm wrong) it seemed to hold your hand a bit too much. I sort of like the fact that I can (have to) write utility functions to draw lines from vertices, and stuff like that. It's a combination of lower level stuff, but a bit simpler to understand, and in python. It's really quite nice to work with.
I made it look cooler (and less of a hard edge between the colors):
On a different note, does anyone remember the name of the pathfinding algorithm that was talked about a thread or so ago that simulated a ball rolling down a sheet, with obstacles being raise portions of the sheet? I think I'd like to use that in my... noise thing.

I almost killed myself after taking a class on iOS programming. Objective-C is horrible. It makes me want to cry whenever I try to use it. Maybe its just because I am not used to it, but I just don't like it. The mix between C-style and whatever the hell the other style of syntax is annoying and unnecessary.
I was working on an app to view my school's roster but I didn't like the results. I gave some classmates the old app because they kept asking for it. They kept asking me to put that version on the Google Play Market so I did...

i doubt it's viable to tell someone how hard to hit, because you know, last time i checked, humans can't precisely control in their head how many pounds of force they want to exert

I already implemented that in the new version. The problem is that I haven't settled on a design for the menu's yet.
i doubt it's viable to tell someone how hard to hit, because you know, last time i checked, humans can't precisely control in their head how many pounds of force they want to exert
Not a number, a gauge. 'Slow', "Quick', 'Fast'
p. sure those are words used to describe speed and not force
i doubt it's viable to tell someone how hard to hit, because you know, last time i checked, humans can't precisely control in their head how many pounds of force they want to exert
If you play pool a lot, you get a feeling for how strong you need to hit the ball. You don't need to know the exact amount of force as a number, just a fuzzy value that you know the "feeling" of.
yeah i play pool, i also know that showing a guage or something like a red line vs a yellow or green line is still completely relative to the player
yeah i play pool, i also know that showing a guage or something like a red line vs a yellow or green line is still completely relative to the player
Yes I am pool, yes I play games
I'm a pool playa
dont hit on me silly cue balls
yeah i play pool, i also know that showing a guage or something like a red line vs a yellow or green line is still completely relative to the player
What you could do is try to have the program estimate how hard someone hits, then show that on a meter. After a few times, you could get used to how much force is where on the meter, making it actually useful.
EDIT:
I'd be interested to know how you'd go about solving for the amount of force used, based on the paths of the balls. Alternatively, a force meter in the cue, but that isn't any fun...

You could have some kind of calibration system.
