Well, here's another funny story for you guys.
Earlier this morning, I had a back and forth conversation with one of our clients. He claimed his website was being attacked by an unknown force.
After looking into the problem, and spending upwards of two hours attempting to 'fix' his website, he finally replied with this exact message;
"thx for the help but the sight was being hunted by a bunch of killer snakes. sorry for wasting your time looking at problem. you see i live in kansas and snakes r big here so they must hav lade babys in the wire or sumthin to cause the attack.
thx again"
Yeah, two hours of support just to find out that a bunch of snakes hacked his site. I've had silly support requests before, but this is a true first. :)
That's all for now, guys. Have no new announcements right now.
Edit: Just to confirm, this was not a valid support ticket, and was created as an attempt to troll our staff. (to which he even admitted, and apologized later on)
I was given permission to post his 'troll' on here. He even seemed proud of it.
We respect the privacy of our customers, and will never share personal or private information with anyone, unless we have been given consent to do so. (and even then, the most we'll ever make public, if anything at all, is a domain name or two hosted on our network, or even a funny support ticket, like the one displayed on this post)
Just wanted to make that clear. :)
Live Support Changes - Reminder
As announced about a week ago, we will be updating our live support platform from the current Zopim to the internal WHMCS system.
We plan to officially disable all Zopim functionality this Friday (May 24th) and enable the new WHMCS chat system throughout the weekend, with an official launch on May 27th.
During this time, you may contact us using;
Twitter - https://twitter.com/DeRoyalServers
Facepunch - (is a link really required?)
Ticket - http://www.deroyalservers.com/submitticket.php
Email - support (at) deroyalservers.com
(bold items should be used if you're contacting us regarding an account or billing issue)
- Ty H.
Money Back Guarantee - Changes
We're in the process of changing our money-back guarantee.
We previously offered an anytime money back guarantee that was prorated. You would be refunded for any unused days on your account.
Now, we're offering an anytime full money back guarantee. This way, if you decide to cancel at the end of the month, you will still be given a full refund of your invoiced amount.
Live Chat
Also, due to some unforeseen problems with our new live chat service, we've decided to temporarily restore full support of the Zopim platform.
We don't intend to stick with Zopim forever, as they charge on a per-agent basis. However, for the time being, we have no true alternatives.
We should be able to dedicate more time towards the management of our live chat services. However, being as how it is managed by only a single support agent, we cannot guarantee that we will be online and available 24 hours a day.
The preferred method of contact will always be direct ticket communication.

If you have any questions about the changes mentioned above, please quote this post in your reply.

To help ensure that our network remains as fast as possible, we will be restarting our lead web hosting server at roughly midnight tonight. (ET)
A short downtime is expected to occur, however it should last no longer than five minutes.
[editline]27th May 2013[/editline]
Important Notice
We are experiencing some technical problems, and will be performing an emergency restart on our 'Royal' server within the next five minutes.
We greatly apologize for the inconvenience, and will update you on the status of our server, as well as the cause for the problems, in a later update.
- Ty H.
---------------
UPDATE
The server is back online, however the root of this downtime is currently unknown.
What we do know;
1. It appeared to be a network problem, possible denial of service attack.
2. After the restart, everything appears to be functioning properly, and all sites are loading quickly.
3. The storefront was *not* affected.
We are still going over the logs, and will provide you guys with an update later in the day.
---------------
UPDATE 2
We're offering account credit for those who were affected by this downtime.
Please open up a support ticket with our staff to request that we apply free credit to your DeRoyalServers account.
If you signed up using a high-value coupon code, or if you are paying less than $3.00 on a monthly basis, credit will only be given if the downtime had a majorly negative affect on your small business website, or if a significant loss of profit or business occurred as a result of this downtime.
We greatly apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you or your business.
- Ty H.
Final Update
DeRoyalServers was hit by a minor Denial of Service attack yesterday morning, which progressed as the day went on.
This attack caused our main web hosting server to slow to a near halt.
The attacking IP address has been permanently blocked from accessing our network, and everything is now functioning properly.

Happy to say I just switched to DRS from Lithium (after over 2 years of being with them) as they had a few issues with SourceBans that I needed to be resolved (and they said they couldn't/wouldn't) - needless to say DRS did it!

Switched from there as well. They've really gone downhill in the last year.
It's nice to see this type of community involvement with a host. If I had a need for shared hosting I'd definitely use you guys.
One suggestion: maybe a logo change? Current one looks rather shit. :v:

Yeah, a good friend of mine made the logo. Kinda stuck with it, and never really bothered to hire a professional designer.
Basically, the logo's blue, the site is blue, and it says 'DRS'. That's all we ever really needed.
We've been thinking about getting an entirely new (and custom) website up and running, and with it, custom artwork and promotional materials. Oh, and yeah, a logo too. That's rather important. :)
I have a designer in mind, and he does some truly amazing designs. The problem is, he isn't much of a coder, and although he claims to know how to design WHMCS templates, claiming and doing are two entirely different things.
Still though, his services are extremely inexpensive, and very high quality. Basically, for a full blown redesign of the entire website, polished artwork, banners, "mascots" (more info on that in a future update) and a logo to match, I'd pay just $85.
Most places charge over $100 for a complete design. I'd even expect to pay $400+ for the level of quality this guy puts out.
He mostly creates gaming and clan websites, but has been known to render up some truly fantastic game server hosting websites. A friend of mine who's been in the game server business since 2010 got him to design his website. Although he no longer 'has' the company, and recently sold it off, this was the design - http://web.archive.org/web/20110128220605/http://envision-host.com/
If you've heard of Envision before, you know how bad of a reputation they had. Still though, the design was absolutely amazing. :)
So yeah, a new logo and complete redesign are definitely being considered. No real idea as to when this redesign will occur, but it should happen later this year. Winter most likely.
If you have any more suggestions, I'd love to hear them. We're always looking to improve our services, so anything you can throw our way would be greatly appreciated.
Looks promising!
That support tab on your index page is funny. The dropdown disappears whenever I want to go to the Knowledgebase :v:
Edit:
HA! After a few minutes of simultaneous hovering & clicking, I managed to overpower the anti-support demon that lingers your website.

We were under the impression that our knights slayed that demon long ago. Guess we were mistaken. D:
Thanks for bringing this up. It's actually working fine on our end, and has been for quite a while now.
I'll get the lead webmaster to look into it.
Appears to be a bug on using the dropdowns together with the slideDown function of jQuery.
Sometimes when going over the thing and then going down too fast your mouse *outruns* the dropdown animation, causing it to collapse again.
(You can choose to simply display it without the animation, which solves the bug, but might look less professional. Then again, things not working doesn't look professional either, so.
If you want to turn it off tell your IT guy to change the 'medium' speed to 0, :v:)
This doesn't appear to be an animation problem, but rather something more complicated that our poorly paid IT guy is unable to fix on his lowly paycheck.
As far as he can tell, the bug is in some way related to the theme itself, which unfortunately we cannot currently swap out with a replacement at this time.
However, since we sport relatively smart noggins, we've decided to simply remove the dropdown menus completely, and instead enable the WHMCS 'portal' for easy use and access.
The portal will be up and running later in the day, and will replace the 'Account' and 'Support' icons on the navigation bar.
This also frees up space so we can add additional products to the bar, such as our previously announced game servers and VPS hosting packages.
Still no exact timeframe as to when those two services will be available. However, at least in regards to game server management, we will be using the GameCP control panel, rather than the more common TCAdmin.
It's just more visually pleasing.
Questions? Please be sure to reply back. :)

It's truly an excellent panel. Wish it was more common among the larger game server providers. TCAdmin is getting stale.

Do you have any suggestions for an alternative panel, then? I absolutely hate the design of TCAdmin 2, and find it to be horribly backwards as far as the UI goes.

I started a development of a Game Server CP awhile back that's currently on hold. I will resume the development of it once I'm done with my current project. The CP will ONLY require a web-server. No installations will be needed on the Dedicated Server other than Cygwin if the OS is Windows.
It'll be free for everyone, commercial or non-commercial.
And ofc, security is the main priority as it only requires a web-server.
EDIT: If you have a good developer and need a GSCP asap, maybe he/she could make one using the phpseclib I linked in the thread.
Attention AT&T Customers
A recent network update removed our rDNS records, which in turn raised a few red flags over at AT&T and Comcast.
Fortunately, we've resolved all errors on the Comcast side of things, but AT&T is taking a bit longer to cooperate. It is the weekend after all, so we don't expect to hear anything back from them until Tuesday.
Unfortunately, AT&T has placed a temporary block on our shared IP, preventing most of our services from functioning on an AT&T internet connection. If you are an AT&T customer, please know that your website is not offline, but may be inaccessible from your current internet connection.
We greatly apologize for the inconvenience, and strongly urge everyone here to switch to a better internet provider!
(Heh, kidding. AT&T is awesome... Everyone knows it)
I'll be sure to post back once I know more about our situation.
So, apparently DeRoyalServers hosts the #1 Stonehearth fansite in the world.
The website has been online for a couple of days now, and it already has nearly 2,000 replies to over 100 threads, and it's gaining 10+ members every day.
This website should provide you guys with proof that our hosting services are more than capable of handling thousands of daily visitors, without any kind of slowdowns and crashes.
http://stonehearthkingdom.com/
We also have a few web developers using our network, one that is fairly famous over on the League of Legends forums. However, since we didn't get his permission to showcase his website, we'll have to leave him nameless. (if 'he' reads this, why not speak up?)
So, in addition to a powerful network capable of handling thousands of unique visitors every single day, we also operate a network that web developers can easily use without risk of going over some kind of nonexistent CPU or RAM limitation.
Yeah, that's right! DRS shall rule the world I tell ya. THE WORLD!
-(the epic)Ty H.
(ps. it's a fairly small world, so how about the universe instead?)
AT&T Issue - Update
We've heard back from AT&T, and should have the block removed within the next 24/48 hours. (aka, one or two days)
It's unlikely that we'll hear back from AT&T after the block has been fully removed, so just go by the assumption that everything will be A-OK by Friday.
- Ty H.
(we've never had to deal with an Internet Service Provider before, so this was a rather enriching experience for us. thankfully AT&T made it fairly easy to get everything resolved, even though we believe their anti-spam practices are far too strict, at least we know they monitor things like this, and take serious actions against offending IPs if they deem it necessary.. unlike Comcast, who kind of just went with the flow and fixed things instantly for us, which was nice, but not extremely secure. AT&T handles misunderstandings like a boss!)
ICANN Policy Changes & New Pricing Structure
We've modified the pricing for our domain name services.

Privacy Protection is no longer a freely offered service. To enable privacy protection, you must now have a .COM domain name, and pay an additional $5.00 / year for as long as your domain is active through DeRoyalServers.
All existing domain names will continue to receive free privacy protection services. However, once the domains are renewed, an additional $5.00 fee will be invoiced. (or else Privacy Protection will be disabled)
We strongly advise you transfer your domain names to another provider, or avoid registering them with DeRoyalServers altogether. We are NOT intended to be a domain name registrar, and we do NOT specialize in domain name services.
Jester's Plan now supports multiple prepayment terms. A free domain name is available on all annual terms, and will be free for the life of your hosting account.
The specific terms are;
Term - Monthly
Price - $4.95
Term - Quarterly
Price - $14.10 (save 5%)
Term - Semi-Annually
Price - $26.73 (save 10%)
Term - Annually
Price - $50.49 (save 15%)
Term - Biennially
Price - $95.04 (save 20%)
Term - Triennially
Price - $124.74 (save 30%)
The above pricing terms are active, and available for order.
Our Money Back Guarantee is also being modified in accordance with the new prepaid terms.
The new prepaid terms now come with a full 60 day money back guarantee. That's two whole months of risk-free hosting service. Also, the current any time full money-back guarantee still applies towards our no-contract monthly hosting term.
(note: this new guarantee does not apply towards our Starter Plan. The current guarantee with Starter is still in effect)
We also plan to give away a few free yearly hosting accounts (domain sold separately) to a couple of our Twitter followers, so be sure to stay tuned to our Twitter account over the next couple of days. You won't want to miss out. :)
- Ty H.
Even though I like the way your hosting sound like, some of this sound too good to be true. I'm not saying it isn't true, but I advise you to make sure you can maintain your hosting. DRS sound like a good set of folks, but you are still a very young company, and the competition is bigger than ever.
Sure it's important to have good plans, but it's more important to maintain your hosting and company.
It would be a shame to see DRS go down due to too good hosting plans and policy.
But I assume you know what you're doing and are saving some of the revenue in case of a crisis.
Even though I like the way your hosting sound like, some of this sound too good to be true. I'm not saying it isn't true, but I advise you to make sure you can maintain your hosting.
I assume you're referring to our unlimited resource policies in regards to your 'too good to be true' statement?
It's rare for a website to require more than 1% of our available system resources, and anything above 30% is practically unheard of on any network with similarly built servers. We've estimated that only one out of 300 customers will ever require more than 50% of our server resources. Now, if we were to assume that each customer is paying $4.95, we can easily afford to dedicate an entire server exclusively to a single client, and still end up making a profit at the end of the day. In fact, we can afford to dedicate more than three whole servers for every 300 clients. (loose estimate, but it's what we're going by)
Now, if a high-resource client were to cancel his hosting account, the server he previously had reserved would be opened up for public use, allowing us to host 100 - 300 additional clients, greatly increasing the revenue earned.
We also try our best to place low resource clients together, as to further maximize the use of the server.
DRS sound like a good set of folks, but you are still a very young company, and the competition is bigger than ever.
Thanks, we'd like to consider ourselves to be a very good set of folks. Heck, we're probably the bestest of folks you'll ever meet! :p
Sure, we're still a relatively young and small operation, but age isn't an indication of the service provided. Some of the oldest providers out there offer ridiculously bad services, and yet they're expanding at alarming rates simply because they've been around for a long time.
Remember, old does not mean wise within the hosting industry. So even though we have quite a bit of competition, we are very confident in the services that we provide. We can only hope that the quality of our network speaks louder than the flash and cash of our competition. :)
It would be a shame to see DRS go down due to too good hosting plans and policy.
Is it possible that DeRoyalServers could 'go down' because of our unlimited policy? Yes. Anything's possible, and we can't really rule anything out.
However, because of the way our hosting network operates, and the general resource statistics, it is highly, highly unlikely that DRS will 'go down' within the next couple of years.
But I assume you know what you're doing and are saving some of the revenue in case of a crisis.
Well, we'd like to think that we know what we're doing. Otherwise, why even bother doing it? :)
As for an emergency reserve, practically every dollar that we earn has some kind of use or purpose. Once we pay our bills, and ensure that all of our licenses are up to date, whatever we have left in the bank stays in the bank.
So, if we happen to make exactly $1,000, and have to pay out $300, the 'emergency' reserve would be $700. That $700 can then be used to order new servers, licenses, software, or whatever else may be needed.
Normally though, that $700 just goes untouched, and is collected and saved for a rainy day.

Unlimited Resrouces are very risky to announce in my opinion as nothing is unlimited in the end. Let's say I wanted to upload a "speedtest" file at 30 TB to your servers, would I be able to? Sure it is very unlikely that I would even have a such space myself or the bandwidth to upload such files, but what if? I'm not saying that you shouldn't use Unlimited resources in your packages, in fact, you should. But I'm a realist, and nothing is unlimited.
Your estimate sounds fairly good, and your plans are indeed great. I would like to see you guys go International, as I'm guessing your hosting currently resides in America somewhere which is off the grid in my case.
I've seen many hosts slowly getting crappy support and plans as they grow. There are not many big hosts out there that can maintain a good support department along with flawless services and client dedication. People get blind by money, caring less and less about how they're getting it the more they get.

All the good feedback you've recieved so far is definitely proof that you are providing good services and support. And I've read that you are very dedicated in developers aswell, which is the main reason I would get a hosting plan from you if I didn't have my own set of dedicated servers.
This dedication to the devs is what breaks when a company get big enough. Always does.
Before I got my servers, I had web-hosting from Hosting24, and that is the worst experience I've had with a host.
Old does definitely not mean wise in the computing industry overall. I'd like to think that the old-school things are good, but not in this cyber-world.

That's actually a common misconception. "Unlimited" simply implies the removal of predetermined quotas, such as disk space and bandwidth, set by the hosting plan.
Unlimited in no way means 'infinite', which is what most people assume when imaging an unlimited hosting plan.
Basically, you are able to use an unlimited amount of our available server resources, but cannot go beyond what our server itself is capable of providing.
For example, if a server has 2 TB of hard disk space, you can use up to 2 TB of space on your hosting account, as there are no quotas to lock you down to a few GBs.

Taken from our About Us page;
We're currently a one-location nation, and have all of our services hosted at a datacenter out in Kansas City.
We're looking to expand beyond this single location in the near future, so we can properly provide our international clients with a service that is closer to home.
The DeRoyalServers HQ will share office space with Sidular Interactive. So, DRS is a Canadian operation.
People get blind by money, caring less and less about how they're getting it the more they get.
I just want to put this out there right now; DeRoyalServers will never fall victim to greed and internal corruption. We're only here to provide website hosting services, and not much else. Heck, if we somehow have thousands upon thousands of dollars in clean monthly profit, most will likely be donated to some kind of charity service, or simply given away to random people
This dedication to the devs is what breaks when a company get big enough. Always does.
We're trying to operate a very open and customizable hosting environment that fits the needs of all types of hosting clients, not just web developers. We'll always operate an open hosting network, so developers will always be welcome. Having a developer friendly network certainly has its advantages, such as being able to offer skilled developers a job as a DRS support agent. It would literally be devs helping devs, which is a win for everyone.
We'll always offer a professional yet personalized support service, and will only hire agents who are passionate about websites. Basically, we will always have a team of real people, with their own real personalities, and real interests. We'll never hire a corporate drone to do our dirty work, as quite simply, we don't even consider it to be 'dirty work'. Helping other people should be fun and rewarding.
Fortunately for us, developers tend to be passionate about sites. So again, it's a win for everyone. :)

Virtual Private Servers
Trying to get some feedback on a certain VPS plan.
Specs
CPU - 1 Dedicated Core
RAM - 1.5 GB Guaranteed RAM
HDD - 350 GB Guaranteed Space
IPv4 - 2 Addresses
Data - 1.5 TB / month
What do you think is a fair price for a VPS with the above specs?
I know it's not much to go by, but we're talking specs alone.
Thanks for the help, everyone!
$15 usd?
