So what's the advantage of this over a similar ARM board? [editline]9th July 2014[/editline] I'm not very familiar with IGBTs. What's the highest maximum switching frequency one could expect at full load?
It depends on the gate capacitance, the amount of power though it and how quickly you can charge it up. The best way to imagine an IGBT is a -large- bipolar transistor with the gate controls of a mosfet: Oh, and they look awesome inside too: And people often use them in things like this:
IGBT's are generally a better overall choice at lower frequencies (below 100kHz) being more efficient and far more robust than comparable power MOSFETs, indeed their pulsed power handling is almost as good as thyristors. At higher frequencies MOSFET or BJT is the only real choice.
GUYS: The Texas Instruments Watch Development Kit has a huge discount Code: CHRON_SCORE http://www.ti.com/tool/ez430-chronos#buy 60% off $58 -> $23.20 $23.20 is below UK Customs too, so there are no customs tax. like £13 for the watch and controller, free shipping... you would be stupid not to grab it. looks like a nice thing to play with.
I was always tempted to buy the chronos but it seems so limited

I suppose. They're probably coming out with a better model. I really wanted one with a heartrate monitor built in [editline]9th July 2014[/editline] Oh my god their site is such painful. Am I going to have to fake business details? [editline]9th July 2014[/editline] one way or another i

The size of the programs it can carry...? [editline]10th July 2014[/editline] ah, the coupon does not count for the (out of stock) 433 anymore 915 is america (N and S) only for some reason, the 868 for Asia and Europe I guess the number means frequency?

They will all work everywhere, but using the US one in Europe and vice versa would be against regulation. Wonder if they are going to do a Wolverine one, their newest part that's currently only available for samples as an XMS device has an LCD controller so it seems like a good fit.
I've had a Chronos for over a year now, it's a neat platform to mess around with but it has two major shortcomings. The time drifts horrendously and the battery life is in a word, shit. TI at least provide some good firmware examples for the radio stack.
Hobby king appear to be terrible, I made my first order, some LiPo batteries, since they were cheaper there than anywhere else and apparently close to their specifications. They have sent me the wrong order and now refuse to pay return shipping. I have opened a dispute with PayPal but blegh.

You should try and order months ahead of time when dealing with the overseas warehouse. I think I ordered some stuff mid August one time and finally got the package early November.

I have 13 orders from HobbyKing, a few from the international, the rest from the EU - There has never been a problem yet :)

I need to buy some lipo batterys soon..... for an electric scooter im thinking of making, with a servo motor :L need to make an inverter to take it up to 320v bus :P
https://www.windowsondevices.com Microsoft are giving out testing samples of development boards, I'd suggest checking it out if you are interested.
I signed in hehe :)
Signed up a while ago, got a, we'll contact you when shipped and haven't heard again.
Sorry to hear this. Maybe you didn't checked many things in questionare/pool (I checked almost everything) or you are/were from wrong location (I think Microsoft prefers America). I hope I will get one, I know already what I will do :))
Who wants to see a really sexy tranny?
Nice ! now you just need an X-Ray tube.
I made a binary counter using an ATtiny and shift register took WAY longer than it should have. The hardware config file I used for the ATtiny didn't have shiftout() support which drove me mad as I had no clue why the sodding thing didn't work while on the internet I read that it supported shiftout, which it does. Once I got the correct one it all worked as expected.
You could make a loop of the count cycle and use it as an avatar.
You could make a loop of the count cycle and use it as an avatar.
would fit and work great if I was gold, but nowadays there isn't any way to become gold :(
would fit and work great if I was gold, but nowadays there isn't any way to become gold :(
You could use APNG. It works for non gold members.
You could use APNG. It works for non gold members.
though the whole thing would fit poorly, would be better with gold size and it rotated 90 degrees
Why didn't you just use the SPI?
I... never really looked into that. Will be handy for next time so I don't run into issues being dependant on functions. [editline]11th July 2014[/editline] welp, reading up on it now, probably would've been done a lot quicker that way :v:
That link to get those boards has been all over reddit and other sites so you probably know how many people applied, I doubt anyone will get one.
I didn't just applied, I sent email to Microsoft and demanded one :D But it is best to forget this board, so I will be surprised if I do get one and won't be sad if I don't get one :)
