When my school got rid of 20 old PCs I salvaged 10 or so 300W ATX power supplies. They're pretty awesome for anything, they even have a -12V rail.
I need to buy some bananaplugs and drill them into the side of a PSU some day.
Less drilling, more breakout board.
Universal solution that doesn't involve filling the case with tiny bits of metal that like to short things out.
I found one of these in perfect, unused state on the attic

just break the 4 connectors for the mobo out of it and it'll be ready for mounting on a project :v:
it has four connections to the fan tho, and colours which say fuck all about what is V+
Yellow is 12V, Black is GND, Blue will be RPM (I think one pulse per Hz), no idea what green is for. Setting the speed?
The tachometer is twice per rotation, and it pulls the line low for the signal, if I remember correctly.
The last one is for the speed, you need to feed it about a 20-25kHz PWM.

Also, I have an idea...
I need a smaller keyboard, and maybe upgrade to a Pi 2.
Personally I've been wanting to build this with some Odroid-C1s: http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=41669
I don't like the Mali GPU on the C1, otherwise it would be an easy pick over the Pi 2.
VideoCore IV is the only mobile GPU right now that has publicly available proper documentation.
There's currently a project going on, just one guy at Broadcom (he got specifically hired to do it though), to write open drivers for the GPU, and the drivers will not only support OpenGL ES, but also regular desktop OpenGL, don't know what version though.
Maybe a C1 then a bunch of Pi2s then.
Post your workbenches!

Is that a switch for when the door opens to the right? does everything turn on with the fans whirring up when you open that closet :v:

That's an amazing idea.
It's actually a circuit breaker for when I test stuff on 120v so I don't fry the wires in the house/blow a breaker somewhere else.
You need to get that shelf replaced its curving harder than Bowie.

Less then 2 weeks ago? Not enough dust to be too much long I'd say ;)
This is my desk on a good day.

And my shelf where many of my projects retire to, no it's not bent you're just imagining things, it's a fine example of my great woodworking skills.

I feel glad knowing I'm not the only one with a ridiculously small amount of desk space.
EEs are suckers for gimmicks, so have a panorama.
I feel glad knowing I'm not the only one with a ridiculously small amount of desk space.
I actually technically tinker with 4 "desks": The folding table you've all seen in the photo, a computer desk right next to it, another plastic folding table in the dining room (also piled with crap and home to my Elenco 30MHz o-scope), and another, larger table where my Rigol DS1054Z currently resides (and where I plan to work on future flat-screen TVs).
All but the last one are pretty much piled with crap. :v:
Less then 2 weeks ago? Not enough dust to be too much long I'd say ;)
There's not much dust because, by some miracle, the amount of dust that builds up is surprisingly little in this apartment of mine (that and I had to dust it not too long ago because "hi we're inspecting your apt. lol k?").
That and the fact that there doesn't seem to be much dust because that XVGA screen was tossed on the pile just the other week.
What's a good material to use as filter for a flux smoke filter? I'd like to not fuck myself over by inhaling flux, so I want to make a little filter using one of these fans that I salvaged from my computers.

Get some paper-pleated filters.
Eh, just open a window and keep the place well ventilated. Flux is harmless unless you inhale lots of it, and you have to inhale a LOT of it to cause asthma.
Is it too late to post benches? Cause I just cleaned "mine" (My dorm is small, so I use one of my IEEE Robotic Team's bench most of the time).
