Make sure you put a small fuse in line with the primary of the transformer just in case.
Primary as in primary winding and that would be like a 250v 0.25amp fuse ?
Primary as in primary winding and that would be like a 250v 0.25amp fuse ?
Yes and yes a 250mA fuse will do fine. [editline]18th October 2013[/editline]
Practically all transformers are thermally fused.
Remember that a thermal fuse is a bitch to change as you have experienced :v: (and you shouldn't rely on that as your primary safety measure)?

The power supply is never going above 5A (not even 4 but just to be sure), the voltage probably will be 0-12v so : 12v * 5a = 60watt 60watt/230a = 0.26A and I do not want to let it get over that 5a so a bit less.

Also make sure you use a slow blow fuse as power on current is high.
Are you going to use the transformer you posted earlier for this power supply (which is rated at 6 VA)?
Yes
Yes
Your transformer is only rated for 6 VA (more or less Watt) so your transformer is pretty much only rated for 1/10th the power you want so this transformer isn't going to work. Also since you are dutch I recommend http://dickbest.nl/ (I know that address looks funny for the English folks) for parts.
For 24V at 5A you'd need a 120VA transformer (actually a bit more to avoid too much heat).
Your transformer is only rated for 6 VA (more or less Watt) so your transformer is pretty much only rated for 1/10th the power you want so this transformer isn't going to cut it.
Yea while answering the post I figured that out, I still had this transformer lying around from a previous order and figured I could use it. Anyhow I will use it until I get a better transformer. Speaking of that does anyone know a shop in the Netherlands or one that delivers to The Netherlands that is not that expensive ? I ordered a couple of times from bitsbox but I always overlook the pound to euro conversion and shipping which always turns out more expensive then I wanted. And the delivery time also is a bit crappy, sometimes they deliver in 2-3 days and sometimes it takes 3 weeks:suicide:

You can even come pick up your parts if you live near them.
Booze is always good at a BBQ.
It took me until now to understand that you cheeky bastard!
What is a good way to remove flux from your board after soldering? I thought it would be liquid but it hardened up (I dunno why I thought it would be liquid :v:) I tried it with a damp paper but that didn't work (I guess because it isn't organic flux, I atleast can't find it anywhere on the roll of solder saying it is)

Personally I just leave it unless you're using a very strong flux.
I guess it will be fine then. This is the first time I soldered electronics (and 2nd time in total :v:) and most of the connections seemed to bond well. Only a few became big blobs, but I managed to get those to form a better bond while redoing them.
I suggest you get Isopropanol and a brush. That way you can gently scrub away the residue. Isopropanol is not dangerous, but you should still avoid getting it on your skin too much, and make sure you work with an open window.
Isnt isopropanol hand sanitizer though? Doesnt seem too dangerous for skin :v:
Isnt isopropanol hand sanitizer though? Doesnt seem too dangerous for skin :v:
It dries your skin up when you apply it pure, just as ethanol does.
It dries your skin up when you apply it pure, just as ethanol does.
So I should not be drinking it then ?
It dries your skin up when you apply it pure, just as ethanol does.
Hand sanitizer is bloody awful for your hands. The shit the NHS provides, when used as regularly as required, strips all the skin off your hands over the space of about 2 weeks. You either have to keep moisturising, or just not use it as often.
Picked up an Universal Avometer Model 8 today! It'll need some cleaning and I have to replace the 2500V DC binding post at the top left but the meter itself works fine. I will certainly not be ruining it like this person did: http://kevinrye.net/files/vintage_avo_meter_restoration.php.
I will certainly not be ruining it like this person did: http://kevinrye.net/files/vintage_avo_meter_restoration.php.
What a disgusting person.
So I should not be drinking it then ?
It's actually fine to drink, it's a lot more toxic than ethanol, but the body can metabolize it without making you blind or anything. The effects are quite similar to ethanol but from what I've read, due to the increased toxicity the line between intoxicated and dead is way smaller than in ethanol, so it's not really safe to drink for intoxication purposes. I may be wrong but some cursory googling tells me that the LD50 of isopropanol is about 300ml for a 90kg human while for ethanol it's 500ml. Or if you will, isopropanol is about twice as toxic.
I'm a total geek when it comes to anything to do with electronics, tinkering, building, or modding. I love programming, especially iOS apps. Never return to electronics you fucking hipster. What is it with Mac people? They always INSIST that everything they own look, feel and smell immaculate. Edited: Fuck this. I'm sending him an email to mock him.
