I started off my education with the Electrical base course, which all branches within the Electrical line does (you can do come from Industrial Production as well, since they have a lot of electrical stuff now), and now we've been spending an entire class since late august calculating wire sizes and cable sizes, etc. We've gotta learn the "bible," which is the same book with rules and regulations that the normal electrician students have to learn.
The reason why electrical and plumbing are closed trades is because electricity and gas should not be fucked around with by people who think they know what they are doing, one mistakes and you have a casualty, burnt or exploding house. If you think there aren't idiots out there that would attempt to do wiring or plumbing without a penny of clue then you're hell dead wrong.
There's also the possibility of buying a house some idiot has wired himself and having it all go up in flames.

Ugh.. lovely. I prefure to use lookup charts and such, thankfully my electronics is hobbiest so i don' have to deal with the legal electrical design stuff, i just get annoyed when someone trys to stop me doing somthing in my own house...
Currently doing BTEC level 3 engineering and A-Level Electronics.
Our college is fairly large but had very little when it comes to electronics, it annoys me so much that i can't talk to teachers about anything above 9v when im trying to learn about power electronics and such. half of them dont have a clue what an IGBT is.

I know this is true and there are idiots out there, the thing is, these laws don't stop the real problematic people, those ones i would imagine would likely ignore such laws.
We use lookup tables as well, but we need to know which one we have to check, and what to do with the numbers, basically how to use the fucking gigantic book.
But what the hell would you need 32A for anyways?

I have big transformers and stuff, have you seen my previous posts? let me find pics of my hobbiest power electronics stuff:
My Isolation transformer to keep myself safer when using my Variac:

I have a lot of projects going on, all of them put on hold ATM as my room is being worked on with my workbenches installed and bench-powersupply.
I generally exersise high precation with all of this stuff, those capacitors expecially, the blue ones being 450v @ 12000uF 1kJ each, plan to use them for a coil-gun rifle.
Oh, well then. No, I've had a pretty long pause from this thread, so I haven't seen that before. Yeah, I don't really see why they wont put up a 32A on a three-phase circuit.

I won't actually be using 3 phases, as our house does not have it saddly :C
Im so annoyed, i want to install a 32A socket in my room, according to UK laws, im not allowed to do it.. what the actual flying fuck... its my house, i should be allowed to do what i want, as long as i remove it if i sell the house.
I understand why they do it, heck they even say i can do it myself and get a qualified electrician in to check it over for the paperwork.. however none of them will, as they would rather you have to rip it out and pay them to do it at a rediculous price.
Im not willing to spend £3000+ and 3 years of my life, just so i can do some electricals...
I know how to do all the wiring, i know wiring sizes, fuse sizes etc... but those fat cats try to restrict everything to allow tradesmen to make more profit = more tax...
How long until it isn't legal to do hobbiest electrical above 48V at your own home without a license and a £2000 membership fee to some government organization...
Eh I'd do it anyway, if they say something just tell them to go fuck off, legally you have the right to deny them access to your property and without actual proof that you've made unauthorized modifications they can't do a thing.
It's basically the same as TV licensing bullshit, as long as you don't give them proof they can't do anything about it.
Christ, you guys feel that? I think it was war_man slamming his head against his desk.
Don't feel bad though, bro, your schematic looks solid and assuming the effective lack of resistors didn't damage anything all you need to do is shift some leads around.
Looking back on this I still haven't finished, because I laid it off. I didn't even connect half the legs on the IC. What the hell was I doing?

Until your insurer requires a mandatory inspection, then you have some asshole with a clipboard giving the reasons why he can't renew your insurance until it is removed. I had them bitching at me because I had a second hydro meter, an AC ammeter and a 240v isolation transformer permanently wired in but complying with the electrical code as best it could.

Aha, i think we will do it ourselves, comply with codes and then get a company mum knows to check it over who often sign off other peoples work.
I had a short in my soldering from VCC to ground and I fried my 555. Again. It's lucky I decided to put the chip in a header so I can easily swap it out though and most of the other parts are fine since I had the power coming in through a regulator that only allows 1 amp.

This is why I love my current limited supply, no or little risk of blowing stuff up.
I should complain less about other people's solder jobs when working on a project but it kinda helps preventing shit from breaking.
Instead of complaining, maybe just be like "Hey, Häns, this joint is kinda weak, maybe you should try to do this instead?" and tell them how to improve their joints?

How do you fry the chip if its shorted from VCC to ground? You only shorted the power rail and there was no power flowing through the chip.
Selling more peltier units by the way guys:

Except that this would only be an issue if your house burned down and so you'd want to claim on your insurance... In which case telling them to go fuck themselves wouldn't help. It's more akin to putting an undeclared mod on your car. If a crash occurs and you want them to pay for repairs they're going to want to assess it. If you tell them to fuck off you'd be paying for it out of your own pocket...

That might be an issue if I had home insurance.

I don't half do things, if the house is burning down, even the metal will be vaporized.
Managed to get AVRstudio with winAVR working to write C programs for Arduino, feels good
would've been nice if AVRstudio (or winAVR dunno which one actually caused my issues) wasn't a fucking retard and worked when winAVR was in a location with a "unique" path name (stuff like ' ( ) etc.)
Same counts for it not being able to make a certain folder in a project, which followed with me searching around the internet for 2 hours untill I figured out it couldn't open some file because it didn't make the folder to put it in beforehand.
Anyone knows a reputable source for LiPo/LiFePo4 batteries? I don't need the high output capacity, rather a longer lifetime, therefore hobbyking is the last option on my list.
AllBattery is pretty good about their products (Especially Tenergy products):

This is how I do modifications in my house. I do it, leave the tail at the consumer unit and get an electrician out to inspect, connect and sign it off.
Don't do it dodgy, you will be held liable if your faulty wiring leads to injury or death, it's worth the money to get someone out just for that alone.
So I got 360 9 volt batteries for free today. They are expired by several months but average 7-8 volts each. What should I do with them? I was thinking of linking them together for some super battery, that I can do stuff like people with super capacitors do.

Don't, you'll most likely kill yourself or set your house on fire.

Kinda off topic, but how does you main fuse not go out often? Ours does sometimes, and it'd be too expensive to get the last phase :(
Who wants to see some gore? NSFL

The tip looks ok, but you need to apply more heat to the pads, as the solder doesn't cling to it.
