Ordered a huge, I needed a system for zenoss - might as well support these guys since I think they're great and I've been following them around for ages now.

I was thinking about the processing power and that kind of stuff.
I had a package with you guys for a few months at the end of last year\start of this year. I didn't end up using it much so I dropped it, but with this kind of sale maybe I'll sign up again. I had a pretty big gripe with the pings though, 300ms+ makes it pretty painful to do anything with ssh. I guess that's just australia for you

You might have better luck with the (upcoming) US, Miami location. I'd expect around 150-200ms.

I've got 340ms to my server. You don't even notice it after a while.

That's a bit better, it's at about 230 as opposed to the German one at 335.

I can imagine you wouldn't really notice the pings with most things but whenever you use ssh it'd still be a pain. Waiting .3 of a second for your characters to show up (especially if you've made a typo) is unlikely to get any easier

Could you run a traceroute to the IP?
Roughly any idea when the US servers will be available?
and I figure it's probably a non-issue, but on your order page there's separate buttons for the german and the US datacentres. Can you switch between them later or if I reopen an account with the german site now am I stuck with them?

At least a week after we launch the US location (which should be in the next few days)
US server setup is complete, we'll be keeping it private (current customers only) until next Thursday when we'll be going public and at the final week of the sale :)

I never did that traceroute, but I'm pinging from work right now and getting 60ms which is decent for US. So I'll transfer my servers over this weekend.
