What is the bonus for facepunch members ? I am interested in micro weenie plan.
Few doubts as I never had VPS before:
1. Installing cPanel or equivalent
2. Installing mysql and php
3. Will it be https enables ? Creating self signed certificate.

Whoops! Fixed :)
tbh I've never needed cPanel to manage a site once I figured out how to use SSH + FTP

Code "FACEPUNCH5" gives a 5% life discount :)
As for installing those things it depends on the distro you use, cPanel is relatively simple (they list instructions on their site). On Debian mysql + php is as simple as:
apt-get install php5 mysql-server mysql-common php5-mysql
See: http://wiki.developervps.com/nginx-ssl-installation/ for setting up SSL on nginx. It's a similar process on Apache also.
@Banana Lord
Installed mysql and php using putty. It was pretty straightforward. I think I wont need cPanel.
Transferring files via Filezilla.

PHP version is 5.1. Are the source repository servers not updated to latest version or how do I go about installing latest version ?
Thanks for the SSL link.

To get the very latest PHP version you'll need to built it yourself, it's relatively simple (pseudo commands):
wget <latest php version>
tar -xf <file.tar.gz>
cd php*
make
make install
^^got it from another repo. There were some other dependencies too. All is working fine now.

Ah, sorry... Thought you meant on the ACTUAL page.
Ordered a VPS 4 hours ago, the service is still pending, how long does this usually take?

We manually check all orders so it can take up to 24 hours; I've just activated yours for you :)
.
Is the website down?
No
Is this not automated? I've bought a month of a huge VPS and a good hour and a half later it's still "pending".

I swear i cannot access the site from my own PC, I had to order my server through my dad's.
$ ping afterburst.com
PING afterburst.com (96.47.230.51): 56 data bytes

Could you download MTR and either post the report (mtr afterburst.com) in here or PM it to me or Nick (or email: jack at afterburst.com or nick at afterburst.com) ?

Looks like a peering issue between Tiscali and Tinet
Any idea when he will finish setting up the US node?
It's online and is just syncing the RAID - should be ~3 hours now.

Considering how responsive they've been in the past with my enquiries about the terrible speeds, I guess I'll never get a way to fix this one.

I'll fire them an email, they might be a little more responsive to a provider. Would be a good idea for you to contact them as well though.
Thank you very much for that. By the way I think so far I've only had this problem when trying to connect to your addresses (afterburst, fanatical, now the VPS).

Is your dad using the same ISP as you? If they don't get back to us, I'll look into other methods of solving this.
[editline].[/editline]
Sent it straight to their network engineer instead of going through the "normal" process
Is your dad using the same ISP as you? If they don't get back to us, I'll look into other methods of solving this.
The problem I was having yesterday, as far as I can tell, was somehow bound or related to DNS. I had my PC set up to use Google's 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as DNS servers and the packets would stop at a place similar to that in the traceroute I posted earlier. I then disabled the custom DNS server and let OS X fall back to the ISP-provided servers and it was then routing correctly. That's why I was able to do it from my dad's PC at first, since his PC isn't configured to use custom DNS servers.
The issue I had earlier was with actually connecting to the IP address my server was assigned. Neither my dad's PC nor mine were able to ping it successfully.

As I mentioned in the email yesterday - Google DNS routed to the US server that hosts our site, while your ISP's routed to the DE one.
The problem's definitely connectivity to the US; unrelated to DNS (though the DNS did work as a neat temp fix for loading our site  )
I imagine Tiscali might not talk to me as I'm neither a customer nor have a peering with them - worth calling them when you have the chance.
