Once we move to our new provider (depending on your node 1-2 months)! All the current nodes are stuck on CentOS5, but the new nodes will all be CentOS6 & support the latest Ubuntu + Arch templates :)

Sounds good, I'm on your Holly node, and have recently moved back to you after a couple of problems with my current provider, just seeing if I'm going to be moving permanently!
Why the move?
I'm emailing everyone who currently rents a Germany based VM from us. In the last few months our provider has been getting progressively worse:
1. We've had incorrect hard drives replaced
2. We're beginning to see lots of hard drive failures, and the replacement drives we are given are awful
3. Their support has deteriorated significantly over the last few months
We've been with this provider since the beginning, when Afterburst was Fanatical VPS; many of the servers are showing their age, all run old CentOS5. I now believe the time has come to move elsewhere, to better hardware, support and as a result stability. I'm emailing because this is a massive move, we have ~450VM's located in Germany, and I would like to gather your feedback as an Afterburst'er.

Damn Hetzner
I just got your email about the mail problems and also got the invoice. I wanted to go pay it, but I'm greeted with a cannot connect to afterburst.com error instead...
My VPS still runs though.

It should be working now, Linode temporarily null-routed our IP due to a large incoming DDOS :/
Wanted to make a new backup of my VPS, accidentally clicked the restore button on a 1 week old backup. :suicide:

Damn dude. Lose much?

Lost everything that wasn't on my notepad++ ftp cache. Luckly, my whole webapp I was working on was there.
Lost all the server configurations though.
I see you moved the client site to be afterburst (might have been some time ago) but it still says: "Welcome to the Fanatical Dev management panel for Fanatical VPS & Developer VPS"
Can you upgrade to a better version of the VPS post-purchase?
Can you upgrade to a better version of the VPS post-purchase?
Services -> Your VPS -> Upgrade / Downgrade
The website & client panel are currently down due to a large DDoS which caused Linode to null route the IP address. Putting things behind CloudFlare and working with them to have the service restored asap...
[editline]15th April 2013[/editline]
...and not 5 minutes after posting they've unblocked it!
Linode servers were hacked. Do you store any important client information on servers hosted by them?
The VPS' themselves weren't hacked, their main server(the one that handles payments and etc) were though

Addresses and hashed pw'ds, but the Linodes themselves weren't hacked... just my CC data!
We are looking for a viable alternative already, as Linode don't seem to have a solid grasp on the security of their manager :/
Theyre using coldfusion. Not surprised one bit that that happened.
Theyre using coldfusion. Not surprised one bit that that happened.
Well, they knew there was a security hole, but didn't bother updating...
You should probaly move =P

Well yes, but I believe some console passwords were taken as well.

True, they had some Lisp (their out-of-band console) passwords stored in plaintext, we've never used Lisp though so there's no issue there :)

This kind of shit happens all the time, especially when you're essentially the best VPS provider out there. Also there's nothing yet to indicate that CCs were leaked.
If we move, will the VPS be preserved or do I have to start over?
If we move, will the VPS be preserved or do I have to start over?
Yes - VM's will be moved 'as is' so there won't be any loss of data/etc.

The CC data was leaked (encrypted) but the public key and private key were also taken (private key taken from in-memory to avoid bypassing the passphrase).
It's highly unfortunate, but Linode haven't been very forthcoming with information which I don't like. We'll see how it pans out in the next few weeks, I know I've cancelled my card already though.

Has it been proven that the private key was actually taken out of the memory? I guess it's best to assume so but it'd still be nice to know if they did or diden't.
It's quite unfortunate to hear that such an amazing VPS provider was compromised.
On behalf of DeRoyalServers, we all wish Afterburst the best of luck getting everything restored. :)
