Anyone here tried to record entire screen using CamStudio ? I have a 4690k and R9 270x and at 1080p the video looks like it's 5 FPS. I've set the thread priority to highest and set it to record at 60 FPS, but still no luck.

These days I either use Shadowplay in desktop mode, or (since you're not on Nvidia) OBS, which is very configurable and works excellently for offline recording.
I talked with ZehMatt about doing this once, but it's a much bigger pita than it's worth, imo. I want lossless 60fps video at small file sizes. That's not always feasible unless you have the appropriate hardware. Nowadays I just think people are better off purchasing better parts for their rig, or buying better prebuilts. Shadowplay and Nvidia lossless NVENC w/ OBS are game changers. I don't even think about using anything else now.
Someone needs to make a free, open source desktop recorder that doesn't suck. Get on it WAYWO.
ffmpeg
ffmpeg

that doesn't suck
not everyone lives in the command line nor wants to memorize a series of arguments and piped commands to record a 30 second video
not everyone lives in the command line nor wants to memorize a series of parameters and piped commands to record a 30 second video
You don't have to memorize that shit; someone should just make a decent GUI front-end to ffmpeg. I'm sick of seeing gifs everywhere.
http://www.maartenbaert.be/simplescreenrecorder/
Sounds linux-only.

appeal to the idiot in me who uses a windows system at home for game development and a mac at work as a designer
Is there a good free alternative to Photoshop? Please don't say GIMP.
Is there a good free alternative to Photoshop? Please don't say GIMP.
paint.net
paint.net
Honestly, and I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but only someone who hasn't used Photoshop would call Paint.NET a good alternative to it.
Is there a good free alternative to Photoshop? Please don't say GIMP.
Why not GIMP though? I'm quite serious here, I've heard a lot of complains about it in comparison to Photoshop, but most of those were just about the user being lazy and not wanting to click to buttons if they could click one. I'm just curious here.

I still have to play with the settings of MEE and OBS to see who is the final winner. Expression encoder... where do they get these names :/
Is there a good free alternative to Photoshop? Please don't say GIMP.
If you don't like GIMP your best bet is to just cough up the $10/mo for Photoshop honestly
Honestly, and I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but only someone who hasn't used Photoshop would call Paint.NET a good alternative to it.
It was more a reference of waywo's previous argument than a serious answer. :v:

I'm just curious here.
Well, I'm not going to pretend it doesn't boil down to some subjective opinion. As was as OSS goes, GIMP really shows it. It feels very unpolished to use and feels like nobody actually cares about it. For example "everybody loves screenshots" (especially non English speaking Windows XP users it seems) The whole experience makes me almost expect to get a "There was an error, but here's the source so you can fix it yourself." popup while using it. Most of these things I would probably get over after some time, but I'd rather not force my self to go through that adjustment period. I'm sure GIMP can be utilized to great levels, but I'm very far from it's target audience.
As far as I know, Photoshop is the best "all in one" image editing software. Gimp does not cover all the same bases as Photoshop, but neither does any other software out there that I've seen. Depending on what you use Photoshop for, there may be something better than Gimp out there. Without knowing your specific needs, people will continue to advocate for Gimp since it's about as close as you can get to a "photoshop clone," but really nothing like that exists. (though i would love to be proven wrong here)
GIMP is for nerdes dude, papa gino's nothing compares to photoshoppe Pay for that Creative Cloud and rub ur nips while feeling superior to linux plebes so nice i pay more for frappuccinos a month than i do for designer tools man

Actually the guy who wants to get rich needs to make: -> Software that is really easy to capture webm videos with, this means desktop recording with just click&record function. Maybe quality bar that doesn't suck. And web cam recording too! And Android/iPhone app. Then ability to upload videos to special website-> -> Website that is hosting webm videos. Put ads on that website and on sofwares (so this means some small ads on mobile apps and desktop apps). Here.
