how well does it scale down?
Just take a few steps back from your computer.
Using it to determine how large the trade period should be (high volatility = shorter timeframe, less long-term securities) interesting, at least. Best part is that the entire blockchain is downloadable, so even if an idea is totally out there and might not function, I can test it on years and years of old data for the hell of it to verify.
The blockchain doesn't contain price data afaik, and it probably doesn't contain much in terms of currency trade volume data that would be useful for your purposes.
[t]http://s13.postimg.org/ezbwa1k93/muru_2015_11_16_19_11_41_69.png[/t] Alright so.. I have now added fog of war and level generation. Though the level generation is really really simple for now due testing purposes. I would love if a few of you could test it out and tell me how it runs on your pc, if the fps is stable (shown in the upper left corner), if the generation takes too long and what your system specs are (especially ram). Controls are pretty easy: W, A, S, D for moving, left click for removing blocks, and esc for ending the game. Download (Just unpack and run muru.exe)
The framerate was stable but it did take about 30 seconds to load, I have 8GB DDR3 ram and i5 4670k.
FFT would be insanely useful for speeding up correlation process, but Fourier coefficients wouldn't give you much of idea. Ok well maybe maybe, but you'd need to put weight, so older data - less weight. Test it anyway, maybe I am wrong very much. Still autocorrelation would give you much better idea of "periodicity".
To be fair the fastest way to calculate auto-correlation is in the frequency domain anyway :v: Although this isn't a real-time application so I guess that's not important!
Here's the release of my recent project, Previewer (horrible name but that isn't the point) [vid]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/357850863/ShareX/2015/11/2015_11_16_18_40_47_converted.mp4[/vid] It almost replicates window photo viewer's functionality without looking like W7, actually works without registry tweaks, and supports GIFS! The toolbar buttons are shite but I'm not the best UI artist. Slideshow doesn't work at the moment (did anyone use it anyway?) so the button's there just for symmetry :v: The toolbar, like in photo viewer, shows your theme accent color but doesn't turn to white when out of focus (yet). "Open With..." is slightly broken and doesn't work with anything with a space in the name (as shown in the video), and only entry one is shown at a time (whichever first comes in the registry). I'm also hoping to support windows 8/10 apps soon. [t]http://i.imgur.com/vrKXVqR.png[/t] You can download the current version here, and the source code. I haven't posted it to Github or anything yet until I clean up the code some more, but I don't have the time at the moment. Please report any bugs you find.
alright guys before i go and do a bunch of shit and get nowhere what do you think about this a music app that ignores metadata altogether and just builds your library off folder and file names does something like that already exist?
holy FUCK what the hell is an activity jesus christ what did i get myself into I'm retarded
Not a lot of progress visually but under the hood I've created a couple of new systems. The video shows the difference between a standing/charging attack [vid]https://zippy.gfycat.com/GrayScarceGull.webm[/vid] A new animation event system allows me to broadcast events on certain points when an animation plays, and animation state enter/exit. I've also created a virtual controller system where either physical inputs or AI are responsible for plugging in inputs and controller characters. The character root is now controller by a Finite State Machine (FSM), which does some motion and relays this to the animation system. The animation system is an abstraction to control Mecanim. I like this system because there's a clear distinction between layers. Only higher layers are allowed to control lower layers, and lower layers can only communicate through broadcasts. Overall this character controller system should be able to last me throughout the project. I've also done some 3D work which is new for me :v: I made the shield in the video, but I'll probably have to do everything, including animations.
holy FUCK what the hell is an activity jesus christ what did i get myself into I'm retarded
Ah yes. Thank you for reminding me why I stopped doing Android dev. Oh and fuck Gradle in particular.
Ah yes. Thank you for reminding me why I stopped doing Android dev. Oh and fuck Gradle in particular.
I just started trying my hand at Android dev on Sunday. It's a nightmare. Gradle is retarded; when I build it causes my 4770k to chug for no reason whatsoever.
Anybody have any ideas for projects than involve machine learning?
Every time I've tried to develop for android it just left a sour taste in my mouth, quite annoying to do anything in it. anyone got some good shit 👌👌👌 to learn from, or maybe a lib that makes it not shit? thanks bebs [editline]16th November 2015[/editline] shoutout to naarkie

I'm actually developing an app in Unity for iPhone and Android, since it will be using some 3D stuff.
talking more about generic ui shit tbh
I know it's totally not programming related, but I need a place to vent about how damn excited I am working on my game. I'm making progress every day and we're getting closer to something that has some semblance of a game! I've been programming new features in pretty much every day, or making existing systems feel better, so things feel more complete, and they're really hyping it up for myself.
quotes
haha i guess so. it just feels kinda weird cause it's more like "general game dev talk" rather than "programming talk" but i guess all kinds of things are allowed around here (which is what makes this thread the best imo)
If I have some time this weekend, I'm going to beef up the citizen generator for Stadtzeug (Sanity Plea's city sim engine) and maybe have some interesting data to show for it. I have some cool ideas for how to generate phone numbers, family members, and marriages. I intend to have all these things usable ingame somehow. Being able to call any phone in the city could make for some interesting game mechanics... It's funny, I haven't really touched Unity in months. That is going to change soon, once I start getting back into 3D graphics and making a playable demo. Doing almost all the work on a huge game by myself is pretty tiring, but I'm confident that I can make it happen. Anyway, here are a couple concepts I threw together for simple text logos. I like installing ass-tons of fonts and trying them out (I have THOUSANDS installed, no joke). I'm trying to visualize a mixture between the handwriting of a particularly sloppy serial killer and some kind of robot. Not quite there yet...
About 6 months ago I decided to try my hand at making a LED strip visualizer combo. Some bugs, difficulties in getting some parts, real life and general laziness messed up what I thought would be a simple thing. Last week I suddenly got a rush of inspiration out of nowhere and gave it another shot and Friday I finally managed to get something working. I've been tinkering non-stop since and I finally have something to show. Unfortunately the quality is kinda shit because I never realized how difficult it is to shoot in the dark with just a webcam. The strip looks much more lively in real life. And when I tried to get sound directly from the speakers I ran into a very annoying hiss/whine in the background that I couldn't get rid of so I had to use the cam mic. This is playing an mp3, but it also has a live mode where it captures anything from the speakers so I can set it to spotify, itunes or whatever. And here is a video from during development with a different visual: I do have some ideas and planned features but shoot me with anything you have in mind. My biggest problem right now is how I go about these big projects: I usually end up creating something decent and somewhat stable and then I start making copies and adding experimental features. The problem is when I get these features working I'm left with multiple copies with different features and at different stages of completeness/hackiness. It both costs me a ton of space to have these copies and makes it impossible to bring different features together or to track changes. I know some of it is because of how I tackle these projects but is there anything that can help me keep organised?
To be fair the fastest way to calculate auto-correlation is in the frequency domain anyway :v: Although this isn't a real-time application so I guess that's not important!
True. And yes, it is important because it is quite real time.
Working on my maths at the moment because its dog shit. Just wanted to know, what sort of level of maths dose everyone else have?
Working on my maths at the moment because its dog shit. Just wanted to know, what sort of level of maths dose everyone else have?
40% of Bachelors practical/applicative math. Still have ~1.7 years to finish the college.
What sort of maths you doing, the most I've needed has just mainly been circle stuff, vectors and trig...
Pretty sure he's a math major but here's some math classes an engineering school might require: Calculus 1 Calculus 2 Linear algebra Vector geometry Multivariable Calculus Discrete logic Combinatorics Statistics Some places like MIT might require a class called "mathematics for computer science", which includes a lot of these topics in brief as well as stuff like number theory and graph theory. [editline]17th November 2015[/editline] I'm going to a non-cs school because I think the engineering school in my state is for chumps and I like the non-cs school better. They've still got an engineering dept. but I like the idea that I'll be forced to teach myself most of everything I know rather than rely on the school to do so. (I hate school) So I don't have very high math requirements. Just Calc 1 and 2

Finished implementing all the Gameboy CPU instructions (I think it was about 500). Now we are just debugging them and trying to get them to pass the test rom :nope:

Can't wait to see it running something after you've got the tests passing.
Working on my maths at the moment because its dog shit. Beyond that, it's pretty much just been Khan Academy, since I could never finish any education really. I'm currently studying data technician specializing in programming, which is sort of a "vocational" education, although the word doesn't directly translate to what it really implies. It's sort of like an education where you spend ~80% of the education as a trainee (or rather, a paid apprentice), and the remainig 20% in high-level classes. I've learned a lot more this way, as it gives me the upportunity to work in the field at one or more companies, and put my knowledge to the test. As my pay increases, so does my responsibilities, until I am finally offered a contract.

Been touching up the WorkClocker app I made a while ago! Now automatically saves the entire program's state whenever you close it, and loads it when open.
Degree has benefits but it's not really needed, people happily hire guys with knowledge and without degrees.
Not where I come from. Knowledge means nothing if you've got nothing to show for it, and no degree doesn't help. It makes it pretty difficult to be 25 or less and have 13 years of programming experience. Experience is really what counts in most areas I've heard of. I was lucky that when I got to be where I am now, I met the boss face to face and got to explain to him what I know, what I love to work with, and so on, and so, him seeing the (in his own words) potential that I could bring, he decided to let me in, although it wasn't something they'd ever done before. I feel lucky to be where I am, but at the same time I maintain that the company is also lucky to have me on board. I just wish more companies would do this. Where I live, they really don't.
I've been working on some sort of rudimentary console-based TUI system (trying to use only pure C#). You can have windows on the screen that contain controls (and these can contain controls, and so forth). I had to basically implement a graphics context with push/pop operations for the console, but instead saving the cursor's top and left position. It's a fun learning experience! There's also a form of styling via enums, right now a control can have a border, render its children, or both - I'd like to add shadows at some point. Next step is to hook up keyboard input so it's traversable using the arrow keys, and interactable by pressing enter. [editline]17th November 2015[/editline] Here's how the window looks in code:
var window = new Window("Hello, WAYWO") { Position = new Point(5, 5), Size = new Size(40, 15), Controls = { new Label("Label Control") { Position = new Point(1, 1), }, new TextBox("Text Box Entry Control") { Position = new Point(1, 3), Size = new Size(36, 3) }, new Button("OK") { Position = new Point(27, 10) }, new Button("Cancel") { Position = new Point(16, 10) } } };
