Not really relevant, but part of my backend is a script that downloads a CSV file from an FTP server every day at 11pm, explodes each line of text into arrays, truncates a mysql table, and then updates the mysql table with today's info. I have this running using watch -n 86400 inside a screen on an ubuntu box. Something tells me I sort of ghetto rigged it and there's a better way to do this, but it works perfectly :v:
crontab -e Do it now.
Well, yeah, but if you work that way I don't think what you're working on is really an important production system, or else you're doing production systems very, very wrong. If you're developing without testing locally first (basically the only situation where being able to FTP a script to a server is a plus) you're doing something horribly horribly wrong.
Having a production website for a non-profit foundation on a webhotel is not that uncommon. It's very common really. And sometimes, you'll need to apply a hotfix. Then alternatives suck.

Have you tried adding a slight view bob? I think that made Mirror's Edge a bit more immersive (tho IMO they overdid it).
Looks awesome. Have you tried adding a slight view bob? I think that made Mirror's Edge a bit more immersive (tho IMO they overdid it).
Or view model bob. Just anything to make it feel like you're running instead of ice-skating.
Looks awesome. Have you tried adding a slight view bob? The camera is attached to the model's head, like mirrors edge, then view targeted so it's not flying all around the place. Because the anim is not that extreme, it's not that visible.
Or view model bob. Just anything to make it feel like you're running instead of ice-skating.
View model bob will come later. I've just gotten around to focusing on art assets and the first thing I'm gonna work on is view models since currently there's only support for one view model used by every item, and limited animations. [editline]2nd December 2015[/editline] speaking of which, anyone got a good way to do view models in unity? preferred something at least partially prebuilt since I have no understanding of unity's shader system (graphics programming is my weakest link)

Does anyone else think the curve editor in Unity is complete shit? I don't have to use it often, but whenever I do its a fucking pain in the ass. Maybe I'm just spoiled by Maya's graph editor (which has been awesome since like Maya 4 nearly 15 years ago), but my god it is barely usable to me for setting up even trivial curves.

Absolute trash. Unity needs to really improve that part of their animation system, you can't even copy and paste a keyframe. Seriously.

I recorded my *pre-upload test playthrough* before sending out a new build to our test group. FWIW we're in an alpha stage so there's missing features such as localization, an unfinished level recap window, placeholder music and other stuff not worth mentioning. Aaaand done! [vid]http://farmpolice.com/content/videos/doggo.webm[/vid] Made in 3 days a few hours at a time, you can check out the code here, depends on curses-sharp: https://github.com/naelstrof/2420-DingoDanger Doesn't seem to work on Windows at the moment because cmd.exe isn't made for this garbage.

Been making good progress on my Gameboy Emulator. Just recently solved some sprite priority issues, making a few games quite a bit more playable. Castlevania seems to be fully playable now aswell. Here's a screenshot of the Zelda intro...
speaking of which, anyone got a good way to do view models in unity? preferred something at least partially prebuilt since I have no understanding of unity's shader system (graphics programming is my weakest link)
It's generally a good idea to do a seperate camera and have the view model in a different space. Then you can have your main camera render everything except the view model, and have your view camera render only the view model. If you have specific questions feel free to ask in the Unity thread, or I can help you 1-on-1 if it really doesn't work out

Just for added fun whenever one of those pipes bursts :) [vid]https://www.simonmoles.com/uploads/2015-12-03_10-24-43.mp4[/vid] (That walking animation is probably familiar...)

It's exciting.
Make the markov chains forgetful (weaken the links over time) :)
That would make my bot go from saying seemingly random sentences to saying seemingly random sentences. It is not a very smart bot :) I've started reading up on neural networks though (buzzword) An interesting article is this one http://karpathy.github.io/2015/05/21/rnn-effectiveness/ The fascinating thing is that it works on per character. So in the beginning it's just garbage, then after a while it creates something that looks like workds, then something that looks like sentences... You can feed it anything that can be sampled. Scroll down to the middle and see how it creates something that looks like code that compiles when it is fed the whole linux source code.
Ever been to a party where you'll be playing games as teams and everyone is assigned a number for their team? fuk dat shit right. Made a visual team scrambler, probably not entirely done yet. [vid]http://s1.webmshare.com/WN5eo.webm[/vid]
