And it's built on top of Atom, so there's really no point in using it instead of Atom. That was just MS way to say that VS is on all platforms, where the reality is that Windows has proper IDE, Mac and Linux got overhyped text editor.
It's not built on top of Atom. It's built on top of Electron (which is also used by Atom), which gives you a webkit window & some platform-specific APIs. They don't really share much.

So my 3D Programming course begins tomorrow. Back in September I started to look at OpenGL a little. Also making my first "log" entry. Been reading more OpenGL as of late since I found out that we will have one lecture on DirectX and then one on OpenGL, and that is it. The rest is general 3D theory so we have to learn the API on our own time. I'm just sitting here reading on learnopengl.com and occasionally laughing out loud at myself and how I will perish once tomorrow comes. :v:
But it will be a magical adventure, I'm sure. Hopefully I can look back at these posts in the near future and laugh at how much I am freaking out.
Edit:
Finally got to the part where you render the triangle, and it doesn't show up. :suicide:

My mistake, you're right. I thought it's built using Atom's source code, and not only using Electron.

Finally some data coming out. The ages update in real time.

I noticed that, and it's rather curious... I use a locked synchronizer to force the name gender to the right class. I wonder if the database I used actually classified "Thomas" as a female name.

I have an IDE, a browser and a text editor running, seems viable to me. I could even run some more stuff without problems.
But sure, Atom is really heavy compared to, say, Sublime Text.

Using swap is awful though-- how fast is your hard drive?

Is it to late to render a polygon?
Using swap is awful though-- how fast is your hard drive?
True. It's a 7200 RPM.
Using swap is awful though-- how fast is your hard drive?
Swapping things like inactive browser tabs, or the resources on them is exactly the use-case it was all designed for.
With more then 100mb/s sequental read/write speeds even on harddisks you'll lose half a second while it loads the page back again.
It doesn't always have to be like Windows XP era, where it slows the whole system to a crawl, because its constantly swapping out active processes.

You'll lose a lot more than a half of a second depending on the hardware and tasks, but the only time I've ever had to use swap is on shitty bloated family computers so my perception is probably warped.
I turned off the swap file because there is no point having Windows swap things out with 10GiB free, so instead it's got 12GiB of files cached in there.
Using swap is awful though-- how fast is your hard drive?
It's better than nothing if you don't have ram. Also the Ram contents get dumped into swap when you put the computer in standby (which is why swapsize >= ramsize is recommended)
