I installed Linux Mint the other day because I thought it was a good idea to try out Linux again to see if it had gotten any better (I used Arch for 2 years at some point) but then I changed back to Windows after only 1 day. There's no good alternative for ShareX on Linux and that's enough to make me drop it. Plus my computer made 33% more noise there than on Windows even with all appropriate drivers installed and that's unacceptable.
Theres a ShareX alternative for linux actually, its called Shutter. It's close but isn't ShareX :(
Oh, please. Linux is INCREDIBLY hard to use when compared to Windows or OSX.
While we're talking about OSes, what do you guys think of ReactOS? Basically Windows rewritten from scratch.
While we're talking about OSes, what do you guys think of ReactOS? I'm a fan of open source software but i'm an even bigger fan of actually usable software.
Theres a ShareX alternative for linux actually, its called Shutter. It's close but isn't ShareX :(
That's not a ShareX alternative. It does pictures, no WebMs nor GIFs. Plus, even the picture side of it doesn't work properly. You have to press enter to take the picture (instead of just releasing the mouse button, and you can't change this behavior) and there was another problem with it that I can't remember. I tried all "alternatives" and none of them come even close.
But linux isn't hard to use?
Last time I tried Linux, every attempt at updating my graphics drivers, despite following all directions provided, resulted in Linux "forgetting" how to use my monitor, and there was no easy way to find out how to fix it, anything that even hinted at a fix was either vague or buried in shit-tons of command-line voodoo.
But linux isn't hard to use?
if it counts any it took me a bit to get my raspberry pi running Raspbian (Debian based OS for the rasp pi) to work with a WPA Enterprise wifi network. i had to go down to root folders (i think thats what they were anyways. stuff like /etc/wpa_supplicant) and do magic there imagine if non-developer type people wanted to connect to that network on the same machine imagine the carnage
did you guys know that some fper made a screenshot program, i think his name was nael-- ah nevermind probably hallucinating.
--
If you want to make your program useful just copy ShareX. Let people create workflows where they can choose settings from a GUI and they can also choose various services that they can upload the image to. Then on top of that enable for recording of videos and gifs and use the same workflow concept to let people upload those videos/gifs wherever they want. I got screenshots working OK in the end but no way to do videos nor gifs decently using the same interface (select area -> record -> upload). And even if I could somehow get this all working, it's a lot more work than I'm willing to do. Also the uploading part is really important and being able to choose from various services is a really useful feature. But more important even is just being able to do all this through an actual user interface. I just wanna download something and click things and it works. I don't wanna read documentation. The mentality that keeps Linux from being user friendly is the fact that everyone is a programmer, so obviously you don't need to focus on easy to use interfaces, right? Well, fucking wrong. Until people start creating software that is usable by a retard it will never be the year of Linux desktop.
I personally think that Ubuntu CAN be as easy to use as windows or OSX, but Ubuntu exposes you to a lot more of the Userspace than Windows or even OSX, which can be intimidating. You should be able to get by with Firefox/chrome and the appstore, but the second someone tells you to do ANYTHING in a terminal, you cross the user friendliness line
-removed-
Why does that cause chrome to crash when I hover over it ._. [editline]19th September 2015[/editline] Also, WAYWO content: [t]http://i.imgur.com/zx0ty8T.png[/t] Started on a re-re-re-re-write of my programming language in C#, because why not. Also, I was looking for a library to do lexing for my language in C#, and I re-stumbled upon Berkin's Stringes, and ended up using that. While there are a few things that bug me about it, it works exactly how I want it to so :)

The distribution you were using wasn't meant for people with no idea what they're doing, and so to do things beyond simple scope, you have to get your hands dirty. Throw Linux Mint Mate/Cinnamon, or Ubuntu on someones computer and it'll take them a while to get used to. But they'll get used to it. And it'll work. Been there, done that, many times.

I haven't touched the code in a while, but I'll consider any suggestions you have for improving it.

It's okay guys, there is an -removed- (User was banned for this post ("Asshole" - Craptasket))
I've tried many variations of Linux on my crappy laptop, but it loves to freeze up. Still don't know why. I'd move to Linux in a heartbeat if I could resolve that.

Teaching my Mom to use Facebook was hard enough.
Working on a raycaster in DOS.
Looking good, although IIRC you need to divide the distance you get from raycasting by the distance from the camera position to the near clip plane for each column to get rid of the fisheye distortion. For example, if the view plane is v units from the camera, and the horizontal distance of each column from the centre of the view plane is u, you will divide each column by sqrt(u^2 + v^2)

I spent several hours fighting floating point errors, and the code still needs to be refined. I'm aware that I need fisheye correction. I just need to implement it. It's been a great learning experience though!

You chose to do it manually, there's many way to have it done automatically (e.g. 'NetworkManager').
You are. WHOOPS. Damn "What are you" threads getting me all confused.
WDYNHW should be "What are you needing help with?" for maximum confusion.
Ever since I remade my same old shitty text base combat simulation in C++, I have sort of ran out of ideas for what to make. I want to start working with some graphical stuff but I have no idea what to even make. Seeing you guys post screenshots of all your cool programs makes me envious of your productivity. I want to be productive once again. It was my mom who pushed me into using computers for more than reading wikipedia and playing flash games. I remember that day when she asked me "Why don't you try out Ubuntu and learn a programming language?" then one day she and my dad walked into my room, smacked a bunch of huge books about UNIX and Linux on my desk and told me to put a CD they burned Ubuntu on into my computer. I still have shitloads of books here in my apartment, most of them books she bought back when she was studying some computer stuff about databases. I am hopelessly thickheaded when it comes to math.
