• Pragma - A 3D multiplayer sandbox engine with Lua-integration, based on Vulkan and bullet physics

There used to be Linux support a long time ago, but no one was using it, so I stopped maintaining it. There's no reason why it wouldn't work on Linux anymore, I just don't have the time to update it. I also don't know if the AMD/Nvidia Vulkan drivers for Linux are in a usable state, it took them long enough to fix all of the major issues for the Windows drivers and I don't expect either of them to put much emphasis on Linux.
That's a bummer, but understandable. Are there any plans to release the source for Pragma in the future? I'm currently learning C++ (I assume it is written in C++?) and it would be fun to at least try to understand a behemoth like this.
Definitely not in the near future. I'm using some parts of the engine for university projects, and until that's done with I can't make the code public. After that I might consider it, but I can't make any promises.
Not much new (other than some lighting and shadow improvements), but I've created a few showcase demos (rendering-related stuff only for now): https://youtu.be/P7B-_zMSXmA
fp doesn't deserve you but we're sure glad you here anyway
Just wanted to let everyone know that I've moved this thread over to Knockout: https://knockout.chat/thread/171 I'm not sure if I'll keep using this thread as well, depends on how successful Knockout will be in getting people to move over there.
Been working on the Linux version, which I haven't touched in years! The last Linux version was back when the engine was still running on OpenGL. Took me quite a while to get everything up and running again, but I'm almost there now: http://pragma-engine.com/sharex/Selection_003.png http://pragma-engine.com/sharex/Pragma_002.png
That's great to see. I would offer my ability to test the Linux builds, but sadly time does not permit for that all that much nowadays. How have the Linux Vulkan drivers been treating you though? I've heard that the AMD ones are actually top-notch in that regard, but I haven't gotten to do any development work to be able to compare it.
Honestly, that was my greatest worries and one of the main reasons why I was hesitant on updating the Linux build, since I figured there's a good chance it might just not work at all because the drivers aren't developed enough (it took both Nvidia and AMD quite a while to get even the Windows drivers stable enough, after all). Looks like that was unfounded though, I haven't done any testing with my Nvidia card, but the AMD drivers have worked flawlessly, I didn't have to make any changes to the rendering systems whatsoever. I've run into some random crashes, but I can't say if that has anything to do with the drivers yet, haven't had to chance to look into it.
Holy shit, i'm here from the shitfest in SH thanks to @Gmod4ever Fuck S&BOX, this looks spectacular
This is the true successor to gmod. Sandbox can go fuck itself with a cactus.
For posterity's sake, since these threads will inevitably drift apart, this is the thread in question.
Wait I'm confused what's the big differences between s&box and this?
Silverlan doesn't treat his community like crap. Also he created this engine basically from scratch whereas S&box will be made using a pre-existing engine.
If nobody minds me asking, where could I find some maps for this?
And Silverlan actually listens to and accepts assistance from his community. The efforts he's made for a Pragma Filmmaker (and supporting Source Filmmaker project files) were at my suggestion (RE: nagging), and I helped him out a bit with both it and the flex support.
Sorry for the late reply, for some reason Facepunch never notified me about new posts in this thread. Anyway, you can load any source map by just typing "map <mapName>" into the console, the engine will find the map, convert it and load it automatically (including all of the assets used in the map, such as models, materials, etc.). I haven't actually done much in the way of the filmmaker yet, I wanted to get some stuff out of the way first, mainly some GUI updates (which took quite a bit longer than I had originally planned, but oh well): https://youtu.be/-dmAofsP2-I Anyway, sorry for the rather long delay, but the filmmaker is now (finally) at the top of my priority list . I've added a channel dedicated for it to the discord server, which I'll use for updates, feedback, suggestions, etc.
Why does everyone hate S&Box?
AFAIK, the main developer of S&Box, layla, has a bit of reputation for being abrasive and confrontational. This has resulted in a few incidents, the most recent and most significant of which was after Garry's Mod was updated with some data analytics code that ran through some sort of Chinese company and some people were concerned about the privacy of their personal information and what specific information was being tracked, Layla accused everyone asking about it of being racist and refused to give any info about what data was being tracked despite it being a legal requirement of the European Union's GDPR compliance. The Facepunch staff (of the game dev company, not the forums) eventually updated the Garry's Mod launcher to include a notice about what data was being collected (after some people threatened to sue the company), but by then the damage to the company's reputation had already been done. Garry, the owner of Facepunch, has a history of not putting much thought into customer relations or really any kind of business professionalism, as a result most of the Facepunch staff members have had pretty much free reign to present themselves in whichever manner they prefer. As a result of this, while most Facepunch staff are very friendly and cordial/professional, a very small few have been very much the opposite, which has led to a negative reputation of the company. This reputation has also been somewhat confounded by Garry's treatment of this forum, which some argue has been very mismanaged due to issues like the mishandling of the migration to the website (many features from the old forum's are still missing, Garry has been lacking in communication about this) as well as him threatening to shut down the forum multiple times whenever people have complained about said missing features, and finally just general (perceived) disconnect between the goals/wishes of the forum members/moderators and Garry/the facepunch staff. To clarify, the facepunch forums and the facepunch game development company are too separate entities. The moderators of these forums are not the facepunch staff and vice versa.
