16k could be normal. I think the problem may have something to do with the implementation of the MAX485, you seem to have it fixed at transmit since the 485 cannot do both at the same time (it's half duplex) there are also propagation delays to consider, also what opto-coupler are you using ?
Well I've just binned the board and am ordering a new batch of components because in the process of trying to desolder RE I ruined the MAX485 and bridged like three other connections. Not worth the effort. There's $20 down the drain.
Building my own boombox, got my speakers and subwoofer up and running with an amplifier, gonna buy a sheet of wood soon and put all the speakers in, make it bluetooth connectable and have a large 12v battery in there.
So I'm in the market for a good soldering station because I'm getting tired of constantly replacing the tips on my $10 pencil. How's something like this one look? I just randomly stumbled upon it and it seemed like an alright deal. And yes, I'm pretty sure I'm cleaning my tips properly. I was told to avoid wet sponges because they can cause thermal shock which wears the tips down. I just use a brass tip cleaner.

I like it, just bear in mind it doesn't have a lot of thermal inertia.
People recommend the Hakko FX-888D for a reason. A used Hakko 936 can't be bad either. My Tenma station has been working well enough for me, though. The 900M Hakko tips fit on it, but I'm not using legit tips, I'm used the cheap eBay knockoffs.

With the standalone units you can swap the handpieces out with the more modern ones, the one I bought included the micro handpiece so I picked up one of the new full size ones. The only issue with the older stations is the somewhat limited max temperature, but the thermal capacity generally makes up for it.
its done im done with college fuck college
For a second I almost thought they weren't renders...
Maybe I will do some better ones on Monday of another object...
I'd love that JBC station that Dave Jones has. Not because ooh high thermal output, but because you can hotswap tips, if I remember correctly.
Myeah, soldering stations. I think I'm slightly addicted to buying soldering equipment... [t]http://i.imgur.com/K8Hq4LH.jpg[/t] JBC CD-2BD and Pace MBT250 with two SX-70 and SX-80 desoldering irons and a soldering tweezer I have yet to receive the stand for...
I'll just sit here with my $80 Radioshack station I guess. You guys go on and have fun with your third-party tips... I'll just... Y'know... ...:'(

If so, those tips are hakko 936 compatible.
You can fit a 900M tip onto anything, if you try hard enough. (Hakko 936 tips are Hakko 900M-series tips)

I need to buy myself a chisel tip. It came with a pencil tip which isn't ideal. [editline]15th May 2015[/editline] and where can I get one of these in the UK?
its done im done with college fuck college
what happened?
it's pretty cool also.
Really? I'd expect such a high quality station to be pretty hot.
what happened?

just three more finals left friends
and then the finals were over so i'm done seriously though fuck college
and then the finals were over so i'm done seriously though fuck college
You say that, but I'd love to go back. First attempt at college resulted in failure due to burn-out (the American educational system is poop, but New Mexico's is terribad), and couldn't afford to go back since. Awkward considering I had to install an air conditioner for one of my old professors who insisted on asking me why I'm not in college. "Why can't you go to college?" "Can't afford it." *next day* "Are you married? Do you have kids?" "No, sir." "Then do you gamble, how do you not have money for college?"
Ahh my friend, that sucks, but hey.. you don't need college to survive or to have good time. [editline]16th May 2015[/editline] And you can always go for free at lectures, no? You won't gain diploma that way, but who needs paper right?

All they know is the debt-causing economy they had back then, that was caused by the economic boom of the war.

Also that time you spend in college (3 years plus) can be used to build business, find good job.. etc. Why am I telling you this while I am going to a college.. as soon as I find something better I will jump the wagon
I feel so fucking fortunate to be going to college for EE, and that the fact that my Uni has a damn nice EE program while only paying in-state tuition. I'm still riding on scholarships, but I'm probably going to have to turn to loans if I want my masters. Its not at all how it used to be where college automatically equals a job (In STEM majors, it's a very high chance but not guaranteed). The cost for going to it is atrocious, so much so I feel it's just a drain on any future adults who will be driving tomorrow's economy, not the baby-boomers who are retiring. I've heard of Mike Rowe's talk with congress of the value of the trade industry (And he's fucking right). The trade industry is great experience and will land you a well paying job instantaneously after an apprenticeship or short period at trade school (I've considered taking up Welding, which most courses take only 12 weeks to a year to be licensed). That's what I wish the value of coming out with a STEM bachelor's degree had, with alot less of the cost shouldered on you for the next 10+ years. Needless to say its bullshit that the US has it's head up its ass regarding post-secondary education. And that its not treating it like an investment to the future economy that alot of other countries treat college as. I'm sorry for the rant, I feel very strongly on the matter.
You should show him how expensive college is nowadays, and how crippling the student loans are.
Even when you have scholarships it's expensive, all the scholarships pay for is tuition and sometimes (SOMETIMES) books. So I got out of high school with what were supposedly impressive SAT/ACT scores so I landed $15,000 in scholarships. Out of that $15K, only about $1200 was used to pay for two semesters worth of tuition and books, and I'm pretty sure that for whatever reason they wouldn't roll over to another semester. I pity anyone who managed to use up all $15K on their first semesters...
People in America that are 50-60 years old, have no fucking idea how much that shit costs nowadays. All they know is the debt-causing economy they had back then, that was caused by the economic boom of the war.
Funny you should say that, literally EVERY instance I've seen of people complaining about how high tuition is and how they wish it was more affordable is often greeted by the aforementioned 50-60-somethings who tell them "Well why don't you just fucking pay for it like I did you freeloader?!"
