replace pathtostudiomdl.exe with the path to studiomdl.exe perhaps.
Sorry I thought it was going to be obvious.
(.....steam\steamapps\username\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\studiomdl.exe) those dots in the beginning mean - add the rest of the path

Ah, I see. Although, im still getting an error.

put the path into "" marks The spaces will cause issues otherwise.
Alright, I added the marks to the bat file and it seems to be reaching studiomdl. Although, when I drag the qc file over to it, I still get an error. The image below explains.

Goddamn try to look at the batch file for a moment to get an idea what is wrong at least.
You added the opening " but not the closing.
you right now essentially have
"pathtostudiomdl.exe %1
Pause
as opposed to
"pathtostudiomdl.exe" %1
pause
Sorry for saying this, but these are things you should be able to see yourself with a moment to look at it.
Ah yes, sorry about that.
Now I have this error when I drag the qc file to the shortcut. I reinstalled steam and all of the games, but that didnt seem to help.
thanks for your patience!

Try starting steam, and running the sdk.
I tried that, even with hlmv. Didnt work. I am actually getting two types of errors.

Try using the Orangebox or 2009 compiler then.
I tried using ep1, orangebox, source2007, and source2009 compilers. They are all getting the same error. Also, I found out that whenever I run a compiler and then try to play garrysmod or team fortress 2, I get the failed to take master pipe connection lock error. I tried restarting steam and just running the compiler, but its the same thing.
Your octopus.smd has 46mb? I know right now you're just trying to get your shit working again at all from what seems to not have been entirely faulty before, but I must ask how come so? Just curious, 'tis all.

I've never got anything in game yet. The tutorials make it look so easy! But they forgot to mention the 101 errors that may arise. The octopus is 45.1 mb. Im not that concerned about poly efficiency, I just want to see it appear in game. Does the memory size matter?

Well I don't know, I sometimes get access_violation_blabla errors when attempting to compile high-poly models. How much does yours have?
Yeah it's possible. Eitherway, try deleting your clientregistry blob to see if the access pipe goes away.
If it doesn't, your best bet really is staying on studiocompiler since it doesn't require steam access, though it might be setting somewhere.
Also try compiling a simple model first, a textured box or something similar.

one of my friends tried that then we could'nt access his steam account after if deleted that file from his steam folder

I have googled steam fail to take master pipe connection lock. Other people say in order to fix it, just find a certain file in the registry and delete it. I have followed their instructions but I cant seem to find it. Im on windows 7.
I'm actually getting the same error for all compilers!!! Cannonfolder studiocompiler included.
I DO have steam running. However, I cannot get source sdk to run. No matter how many times I click on it. I also cant run garrysmod if I open the game, exit out, then try to start it again. I get the same message about steam failed to take master pipe connection lock. I've tried reinstalling steam and all the games. But the error still exist. This error has plaged all programs!

I think they're telling you to delete the clientregistry.blob.
The file isn't in the registry, but in your steam folder
Guistudio will fail as long as you have this error (just a wrapper for studiomdl)
And well try running studiocompiler with steam off. And there's a line option -nosteam or some such somewhere.
I tried deleting the clientrestry.blob file in the steam folder. Whenever I compile with any compiler, it automatically generates another one and gives me the steam failure error.
I tried compiling with cannonfolder studiocompiler without steam running. I get an error saying the local steam service is not running.
did you try this?

Also perhaps an extra question - do you have UAC on? And is steam in your program files. Just asking since that might be also another cause, as program files are a protected directory as far as I know.
But I'm honestly starting to run out of ideas. Never had this error myself.
Oh yeah, to run as admin, shift right click on the exe.
I got rid of the steam failure by running steam and the compilers as administrator. Although, GUIStudio still is having a problem.
Back to the compiling issues. cannonfodders studiocompiler seems to be giving me this error now.

Yay, that's headway
a) try compiling something like a box first. Don't compile a super complex model (if it's 46MB it must be massive)
b) it still apparently can't find some files. Do you have it pointed to the correct directory where all the SMD's are?
c) do you have the folders where you are compiling to - models/props/octopusSDK already created?
First success!
I used the cannonfodder compiler with a new model. It looks like it appears in hlmv, and found its texture. (A little curious how it found it though).
When I launch garrysmod I get a message saying client.dll init () in library client failed, and goes back to the desktop. I've read this can be caused by steam or the game updating. Has anyone else got this message recently?

Yay you finally managed to compile a model. And yes, the gmod error was caused by the latest patch.
I was able to get the model to spawn in garrysmod, although im having trouble making it appear in hammer.
In hammer, I create a static_prop entity and go to the world model option, the list freezes on loading. When I close the window and open it again, its a white screen. FYI, the name of the model was renamed props in the compiling process. Its location is actually models\props\props.
I removed my model from the models\props folder, restarted hammer, created a new prop_static, and went to the world model option. It seems to load everything fine then. So it was something to do with my model.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?
Its good that I can get models into garrysmod, but I ultimately want to get them into hammer so I can start building levels.
