Hey! I would like to have a question: I'm using 3ds max, and I have a big problem. I should import a material what should fit to one of an existing model's boxes. The problem is that this box isn't just lying there, but it was rotated to an almost 45° pose. How should I make this material fit the model?

I use, but it still looks ugly... By the way, selrak, could you tell me how to export the textures of the model into VMF? I've tried with baking the materials (aka rendering them) but the final result was just something like when I cut some pieces from a paper...

I've tried with baking the materials (aka rendering them) but the final result was just something like when I cut some pieces from a paper...[/QUOTE] In 3ds max use your texture but in format .tga, then, copy this .tga in steam/steamapps/username/garrysmod/garrysmod/materialscr (you need make this folder) Open other folder and go /steam/Steamapps/sourcesdk/bin/ep1/bin and draw .tga to vtex.exe this make a .vtf in garrysmod/materials and then you need make a .vmt with the program vtfedit PS: sorry for my bad english

For the people using sketchup: When you model with sketchup, it creates unessacary geomatry. Making it a high-poly model. So when you import to a .max file and compile it. That geomatry will still be there. THus when spawning the model it can take a while and possible cause a crash.

I can't remember which episode, but in the first episode of SGA the drone powers up and shoots out of the big hole in the ice. And some other time where we see that a hole opens for the drones in storage to fly out of on a city ship...can't remember if it was Atlantis or one of the other ones... But, you are right still.

There is one big thing I have been seeing in all the models shown in this thread so far and that's you are all trying to model in to much detail, there is a fine line between what should be modeled in and what should be left for a texture and normal map. While its fine to want it to look nice with detail when it comes time to bring the model in to a game engine there will have to be MAJOR fixing to keep these models low poly or you will not be able to compile them for the desired engine. For a lot of the Ancient designed models any text and "lip" or panel detail should be left for a normal map to fake it. Just something to think about on future models.
