I know that you have an ASSLOAD of requests, but I know the car that would make a perfect companion to this.

I've actually driven that exact car.
Ok progress report.
Over this last week I have been learning to rig in XSI so there has been no progress on the Dodge model itself however I am currently rigging a practice vehicle and hopefully it will work in gmod when it's done, if all goes well then I will be able to get back to the Dodge model soon.
This is amazing what you're doing, I haven't found too many high-quality car models, let alone drivable ones. Just a suggestion, you should do a 1970 Chevelle. I personally think that year is the best looking, preferably have the white rally stripes on them as well.
I'm saying when you hit the turbo button, it simply roasts the back tires and allows you to cut a donut and do epic burnouts when combined with the handbrake key. :P
right, back tires spinning, while holding handbrake.
anything else? like, seats inside the engine, or maybe an exhaust coming out the mirror?
This WILL be epic, on more pressing matters X)
Me and Master Chris are going to have a small contest aganist each other to see who can do the better trailer for this cool car, i have already chosen my music :)
New Divide - Linkin Park
The model is coming along great :D
If you made a 1972 grand prix that would be awesome!
I know that you know this already, but there's no worse way to have an awesome model ruined than by it having a poor texture. So do whatever you can to have this thing be top notch in every aspect. Oh and make sure to add various paintjobs including racing stripes and the black stripe around the trunk.
Not much progress lately, mostly because I have started to look for good universities and courses. I have to admit that I have also been...distracted by Burnout Paradise and the new Big Surf Island update. I may do some more sound samples soon, the new bridge is excellent for recording sounds on because there are no other cars to make noises and ruin the recording so it should be a lot easier and quicker to record sounds than before.
As for the textures I have found some nice leather and vinyl textures which should look good. For the body a plain colour with a specular map to make it shiny should look fine. The whole car will also have phong shading as well.
In other news my latest film has entered pre-production, basically I'm brainstroming ideas and scripting it right now and I will start doing filming in the summer holidays.

ooOOoo what is it going to be about?
ooOOoo what is it going to be about?
It's going to be the continuation of the Gman's Day Out series. It's going to be a lot more serious than before and it's going to link my series to the Half-Life story.
When this model is finished I'm going to start learning faceposer and mapping, I will probably release some tests before I start to work on the main project. Faceposer and perhaps even custom animation will be used in the film, it probably won't be finished until next year.
Neat! Also, yes I agree Burnout can be distracting when it's not busy crashing my PC.
Small progress update on the rigging test. I got some free time today and I used it to learn about animating, so I decided to make my first animation for the test car: The steering. I didn't give the model a texture because it's just a test.

And another famous first for me: A full collision model

Now all you have to do is doing that with the charger... that will sure take a while.
But good job here, my friend.

dude texture it for a simple model i would actualy like that as a drivable car
dude texture it for a simple model i would actualy like that as a drivable car
I just slapped the default texture on there so the model would compile and I could actually see it, I haven't UV mapped it or anything so any texture you put on it would just come out all over the place. I'm only making this model as a test and to teach myself how to make a new drivable car model from scratch so it's not going to be released.

well that sucks
well that sucks
Its not like hes going to release it, anyway it's just to test to see if everything is ok with it.
A little more progress; the suspension and wheel rotation animations are done now so all that is left to do is the enter and exit animations, completing the .qc file and then testing it in Garrys mod. I should hopefully be able to finish all of this before next week, after that I will get back to modelling the Dodge.
Could it be possible for you to make a red 1961 desoto?

By the way, Entry/Exit Animations?
As in opening doors?

No, although I could do that for the dodge. I mean the animation which controls the players view when they get into the car. So far only the official valve models have this, most other car models just teleport you into the car when you use them.

That is going to be one of the hardest requests, those cars are quite rare and I can't find any sort of blueprint for that particular model anywhere. I've added it to the list but don't expect it any time soon.

What about a 1960 Pontiac Star Chief, beautiful car. It should be easy to find compared to a DeSoto.
Isn't it supposed to be 1968, not 1969?
Anyways, good job.

No it is a 1969 model, the second generation Dodge Charger B Body was made from 1968 to 1970 and there are a few differences between them.
The 1969 model had a bar going through the middle of the grill and rectangular rear light arrangements:

The 1968 model had no bar in the center of the grill and circular rear light arrangements.

The 1970 model had a sort of combination of the two previous years with no bar in the grill and rectangular rear lights.

I am planning to do a few different versions of this model though and since there are so few differences between the different years it shouldn't be too hard to do models of them all if I want to.
This is seriously your first model?
This is seriously your first model?
Yes, the first one I started anyway. I did make a car key model a few months ago so I could learn how to compile models for the Source engine but I actually started that model after I had started on the Dodge Charger.

ah ok.
Also did a small video to show what sort of things i would be doing on the Tralier to the car.

i would also like to point out that i did this all in SinglePlayer. :)
Good to hear that the charger will be finished soon.

Ok, time for me to put on my critics hat.
The main problem I find with that video is that it lacks impact because the music seems to be off by a second, I understand that there was a copyright issue with the first soundtrack but if that happens then try this, it has worked for me in the past.
Also you need to try an make the video seem faster, at the moment the car always seems to be going quite slowly, try putting the camera closer to the ground and experiment with appropriate sound effects matching the action of the vehicle. This may also be because of the slow music, I understand that this may just have been the beginning of the video and it may have gotten faster later on but these are just things to remember.
Other things that you could try:
- A greater range of transitions.
- Make sure that the camera is always focused on the car (0:24 - 0:26).
- When you show actors that are key to the scene make sure the camera is closer to them.
- Colour correction maybe to suit the mood of the song.
- Experiment with some special effects if you can: camera shake, blur (in controlled amounts).
I did like the shot from 0:34 to 0:39, that was very well done. In fact throughout the video the camera movements themselves were excellent, it's just that you need to work on audio/visual synchronisation.
