Bump - Updates?
Ok well the other video I was working on is finished, I should point out that although I called it the school video here on the forum it was only organised through the school as a form of work experience. It actually is a project separate from school in every other respect.
It was actually for Pinewood Gymnastics Club, it is about an hour and five minutes long and is being sold on DVD at the club next week. I am getting paid for this so it is my very first commercial film work.
I'm hoping to get about £100+ out of this which will contribute to the budget for my new PC, I'm planning to build it after The Day The World Went Wrong and the Dodge Charger are released.
I have also started rigging the Vigilante 8 Vehicles, I'm doing this because the Moth Truck from this pack is perfect for a role in TDTWWW and after my exams I need some more modeling/rigging practice before I get back to work on the Dodge. Also don't expect this pack to take too long to do, rigging and animating vehicles is actually the easiest part of the process. It only took me a couple of days to rig the Nissan 240SX for the SHIFT Mod team. Don't expect that to be released for gmod any time soon though, Korge has said that I can release the Nissan and any other vehicles I make for that mod after the official release but not before.
I think that's it. Oh I saw Sherlock Holmes at the cinema as well, great film.
I think that's it. Oh I saw Sherlock Holmes at the cinema as well, great film.
It was good but im not going to say how i saw it for my balls may be turned into Pâté by the Mods
Anywho, Robert Downey Jr plays the british accent very well.....
I liked how it combined seriousness and mystery with humor, and yeah Downey played a convincing british accent. However I thought one of the best parts was at the end when they left it open for a sequel
Was this released? I don't feel like reading through 32 pages...
Was this released? I don't feel like reading through 32 pages...
Not yet.
As mentioned before I'm working on the Vigilante 8 pack, I'm going to focus mostly on this as it's a nice change from the things I've been doing so far.
The Dodge is of course not a dead project, far from it. I'm using this pack of vehicles as furthur practice to help make the Charger better. In fact the rigging on this model, the Clydesdale, is probably better than any other model I have done yet: all the suspension bends realistically and already it's driving well in gmod without any real fine tuning. Making more vehicles allows me to refine my methods and gives me better results every time. I have also been working on some texture issues with the dodge which I could not have fixed without having these models as practice material.
[img_thumb]http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/4142/clydesdale1.png[/img_thumb]
[img_thumb]http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/9561/clydesdale2.png[/img_thumb]
I'm also going to use these vehicles as a test bed for some new features that so far i've not seen on other vehicle models. No garuntees that they will make it to the final release but some of the tests I have done have yielded promising results, more info on that later. In the mean time subscribe to the Vigilante 8 thread for more updates.

Update?
Recently, MC has given me Pre-Release access to the Dodge, i thought i may do a small vid just to show the car off a little, nothing fancy, just to show the handling and speed you will be expecting on final release....
Enjoy....

OK well I've been making some progress with the Vigilante 8 Vehicles and in doing so I have got some practice with Bodygroups and Texturegroups.
So just to re-iterate, the colours for the Dodge Charger at release will be:
1. Red
2. Orange
3. Black
4. White
5. Silver
6. Light Blue
7. Dark Blue
8. Purple
9. Copper
10. Yellow
11. Yellow with green stripes (EP2 car replacement)
12. General Lee - won't be in first release.
I will also leave a few slots spare for people to add their own custom textures without having to overwrite any of the existing ones.
As for Bodygroups I currently have some ideas:
- Light Covers, these will be included as a separate Bodygroup for when you want to have lights showing or not. I'm hoping to get someone to make some simple code to allow the the covers to go up and down as an animation later on.
- Emblems, The 'Charger', 'R/T' and 'Hemi' badges will be removable, if you want a discreet look. This also includes the R/T decal on the rear of the car.
- The right hand side-view mirror will be optional, as it was on the real chargers.
- Bull Bar, to go with the General Lee skin but can be used with any of them.
- Roll Cage, to go with the General lee skin but can be used with any of them.
- Wheels, the default will be the Magnum 500s that are currently on the car. What others do you want to see? Remember, try to think how they would look on this car and not some massive SUV or Tuner.
Here are some examples:
Standard Dodge Dog Dish Hubcap:

American Racing Vector:

Are there any other things you would like to see in bodygroups? Please remember that these will be for the standard hardtop, non-hotrod version of the car. So don't suggest large superchargers or wings/spoilers. I may do a separate Hotrod version later.
At release there will probably only be one version of the car which will be un-modified (except for the alternate wheels and maybe a bull-bar for you General Lee fans). Afterwards, based on demand and my own requirements I will be working on more versions such as: Vinyl roofed, 1968 model, 1970 model, Daytona, and Hotrod/Custom.

I don't know much about this car, but would a spoiler be ok?
Can you make a skin to look like this please?

Yes. I do have this Hot Wheels model :D
Sorry about the size. I keep making it smaller and it doesn't change .

First off, [img_thumb] tags instead of [img].
Second, I like it but I've not really done proper skinning for a model before, nor any proper image editing as yet. I don't know where to start with this but I imagine it could be another good learning experience so I will give it a go. Just don't expect it in the first release.

Alright maybe I should have said spoiler as well but they are essentially the same so the answer is no. There may be something like this on the Custom version later but not for the standard version unless you're looking for something discreet, built into the bodywork (see below). Then it's a maybe.

How about a Vinyl Top?
[img_thumb]http://www.stockmopar.com/_images/charger/1968-dodge-charger-383-red-with-black-vinyl-top/1968-dodge-charger-383-red-with-black-vinyl-top-3.jpg[/img_thumb]
It's a 68 Charger but I was mainly going for the vinyl top
i vote for the american racing vecter wheels as a second. and for body groups. i would say "easy restoration" cars [img_thumb]http://junkyardjewels.com/pics/69hemi1.jpg[/img_thumb] along those lines... would create a good starting base for the junkyard gib/prop varient (example shown below).
[img_thumb]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/funcollectibles/rusty%20cars/80955a4b.jpg[/img_thumb]
question not really part of the bodygroups...well, actually yeah, i take that back. of the body groups, will each group have its own gibs? or will the gibs you make later on just have the different skin colors and a rust-bucket skin?
OR as cookie posted, a vynal top in the same colors posted above, but with either a white or black "R/T" stripe on the rear. (depending on car color, purple may have white, as will other dark colors, etc.)
A version without the driver and passenger windows would also be good, expecially for posing purposes. Im sure that would be very useful. and perhaps a flat black, less glossy paint job.
Really looking forward to this chris, good job.

A junkyard version will pobably come later as it would require a lot more skin work. However since i'm leaving some slots free for expansion it's perfectly possible for someone else to make a new skin for it without replacing any of the old ones.
Also i've discussed the vinyl roof version with Cookie and I'm afraid that due to model limitations it wouldn't work very well as a bodygroup.
It would either mean having a seam around the roof where the two separate meshes meet or the vinyl roof layed over the hardtop roof which wouldn't be very efficient as the hardtop roof would always be rendered under the vinyl as it couldn't be turned off. I will probably make a completely separate vinyl roofed version later on.

It wouldn't actually. You could have each roof in separate body groups, with the hardtop roof being the one the model spawns with, and the other roof as a body group.
That part of the .qc would look something like this:
$bodygroup roofs
{
studio "Charger_Hardtop_Roof.smd"
studio "Charger_Vinyl_Roof.smd"
}
The hardtop roof is a continuous part of the car in real life, with the two separate meshes needed for the body and hardtop in bodygroup form they couldn't be entirely continuous because the vertexes at the boundary wouldn't be welded together, therfore creating a visible seam when light shines on them.

R/T Rendition of the charger. Comes with that white (or black) vinyl near the tail and has that mini rear spoiler.
Maybe something like that?

i suggested that too, but since the vynal top wont work for now, i'll go with this ^ as a normal body group. so scratch the vynal top idea for me i'll just agree on a R/T stripe then =P

Who would want a vinyl top? We are restoring a 1976 Lincoln continental, and the first thing we did was rip off the vinyl top, then took off the side trim. But when we bought the lincoln it was an ugly light blue :(
Very ugly right now, but here's it doing a burnout, don't judge the quality, I recorded it on a pen : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbYwhGlvn0M
