I can't sell the model because it was made using free software, it's part of the EULA. XSI Mod Tool can only be used for non-commercial work, however if I were to buy a full version of Softimage XSI then maybe I could sell it but that's $2995.
There are ways of getting it cheaper (besides pirating it)
If anyone you know goes to a University that sells it, that's a good way to get it for a lot less.
so how much longer for the charger to be done??
It'll be done when you stop asking "When will it be done"

Well yes but I thought that the student version was still a non-comercial license, I don't know for sure but I would have thought so. I am going to university in september and they use Softimage there so I could see about it then.

Well recently I've been doing things away from home like going to Santa Pod Raceway and things like that plus I wanted to play some games for a few days but progress has been made on the model, I've managed to shave nearly 2,000 polies from the Charger with no loss of detail bringing the total down to about 39,300.
I've also completely UV mapped the wheel but it currently has no texture so there isn't really much to show. I will finish UV mapping the whole model and then doing the final Ambient Occlusion pass, the results of which will be baked into a texture.
Basically there won't be much visual progress for a few days at least until I've finished the UV mapping, after that I can get to work on the texture and I'll be able to post a lot more pictures.

If its the full version of XSI then you can do what you want... even if its a student license...
The student license is just a cheaper way to get hold of it, it's the same license as the commercial one, just cheaper. However, you have to be a student to buy it, so obviously companies can't get the discount. It works in the business model because they still get a bit of money from the students, and then they go and use a commercially licensed version at work, so they effectively sell more commercial licenses.
tl;dr: student license is the same but cheaper.
well, the only thing i dont like about the charger (that isnt a big deal anyway) is its tires... their low profile tires compared to what i THINK is the original factory size... then again... im not sure the ones i saw were factory either... have you found the wheel specs at all for the charger's original wheels? like rim size and tire size n' such?

I noticed this as well recently and it's been changed since the last renders so they are now closer to the original size.

settle down man, was just pointing something out. =/ if mc didnt want comments like this or feed back at all i dont think hed have this thread here.
and i understand its his model, and i understand he can make it any way he wants to. im not saying CHANGE IT or anything. just pointing it out and questioning. and being picky isnt bad. look at MC, hes been picky with the details of the car. now check it out, it looks exactly like a real charger, with emblems and everything.
i was also wondering about the original tire size because i myself am working on a car. and its got 16 inch rims on it... and i hate them. and i wanna get something close to the original wheel size so they look right on my car.
How's the texturing?
How's the texturing?
Going well, just a few more exterior and underside features to UV map and I will then make a basic texture and some renders to show progress. Then I need to do the interior.
Here is the planned texture list for the Charger, taking into account that the material limit for any model in source is 32 I have calculated the number of textures which can be put on the car.
Body = All coloured areas = 20 potential skins.
Exterior Detail = Lights, emblems etc = 3: 1 for lights off, 1 for lights on, possibly 1 which is dirty.
Interior = All interior features: dashboard, seats etc = 1 for each interior colour which will probably stay at one but may include more later, this would however limit the number of exterior colours.
Transparent = Windows and Bumble Bee Stripe = 2, one for each Bumble Bee stripe colour (Black and White).
Wheels = Tire and Rim = 1 for each wheel = 5 for five potential wheel models.
Current Colour List:
1. Red
2. Orange
3. Black
4. White
5. Silver
6. Light Blue
7. Dark Blue
8. Purple
9. Copper
10. Yellow
11. Yellow with green stripes (EP2 car replacement)
12. General Lee - won't be in first release.
Which leaves 8 free slots for other skins, I'm thinking of doing a couple of examples such as a flame paint job and some stripe variations, not sure if they will be in the first release or later.
Awsome sauce...
Can't wait! :haw:
Sounds like we can customize the charger to our hearts content.
Sounds like we can customize the charger to our hearts content.
Most of it anyway...
Im planning on doing a Rusty version and a Armoured version.
Ok the exterior has been completely UV mapped and I was planning to post a few pictures but I discovered a small rendering issue with XSI which prevented me from doing it earlier. I have found a solution to the issue but it's too late to do it tonight so it will have to wait until tomorrow.

i like orange, but this yellow is pretty good, Crazy Delorean.
I didn't think you could such a bad car and make it worse. Sure the DeLorean looks alright, but I've been lucky enought to drive one at a track day. So horrible. I guess some might put up with it because 'I'm driving the car from that film!'
I've finished the UV mapping for the exterior of the Charger model, I decided to do a few renders using the default placeholder texture in XSI for fun, it also helps to show how the geometry is layed out on the texture.

I will start working on a base texture later, it will be fairly basic colours which will be used to build the rest of the details over.
Looking good chris and it does look right now that you've sorted out the wheel size.
I've made a basic texture for the wheels, I'll bake the ambient Occlusion into it later.

for the general lee will there be a roll cage??
for the general lee will there be a roll cage??
Does that really matter?
I mean, thats a small thing, its nice to see everyone trying to make things more realistic and such, but this means more work for Chris and a later release date, so what i would suggest is that you wait until it is actualy release before asking for all these little things
Its not a rant, its just some friendly advice...
for the general lee will there be a roll cage??
Well actually that's a good point because I had completely forgotten about that, it won't be in the first release though, I'll do it when I add the bullbars.

I've seen one of the real General Lees. And I've seen two or three deloreans as well.

I've seen no general lees but 350+ Deloreans. I need to see a general!
