This is looking great, can't wait to see some finished and polished textures, I know it could be a while until you get the time though, I've just got my projects myself and I know how much time they need.
Woo, managed to get a bit of free time to work on the Charger! To be honest since I'm still doing the underside (which is almost finished now, just the engine to do) I wouldn't normally post any pictures of it but recently I decided to get the education version of Autodesk Softimage 2011 and I'm happy to report that transferring the Dodge Charger to it has been a complete success: Look no annoying watermarks: [img_thumb]http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/4273/dodgechargerfront1.th.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://img686.imageshack.us/img686/2805/dodgechargerfront21.th.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/8039/dodgechargerfront31.th.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/5590/dodgechargerside11.th.jpg[/img_thumb]
hmm... it looks really epic =P but whats with the black racing stripes? just messing around and testing stuff?
So, what happened to this thread once the Charger is complete?
So, what happened to this thread once the Charger is complete?
It will be added to the Vehicle pack so any furthur progress will probably be in that thread, I guess this one will be abandoned.
It is nearly 2 years old...
This looks really brilliant. I know I'm coming into this thread a little late, but hot damn! This is great stuff.
I've been tweaking the model slightly and I believe I have pretty much perfected the body, so for the first time since starting this project I am actually satisfied with it's current state. Although in previous versions it has always been very close there was always something about it which was nagging at me to be changed so I smoothed the transition from the rear quarter panel above the rear wheels to the roofline which I think helps to improve the smoothness of the body even though you probably won't notice. Oh and I also found out how to roll the camera in Softimage:
***Epic New Post with pictures***
Excuse me, I have to change my pants.
We have a winner...
I look forward to thrashing this thing around white forest raceway, tropic_fever and big city.
Awesome Chris!
This is looking so good! Any idea how long it will take you to rig when you find the time?
That thing is going to look so fucking sexy once you get the specular maps(s) down. Not to say that it isn't sexy already.
i will agree it looks kick-ass now. only thing thats "nagging" me is the black stripes on it. XD other than that it looks really good! but the paint looks like a felt paint job. or matte or w/e you wanna call it. is it just the program or have you just not added any shiney-ness to it?
When your making the car for gmod can you make it seem less like a source vehicle? Like have more noticeable suspension and maybe if you can have smoke come out of the exhaust pipe. Or have the whells make smoke and stopping.

Cool. Can't wait to see how this will go.
Hey chris if your planning to use music in its release vid how about using this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkN7qtMBCx8
This is looking so good! Any idea how long it will take you to rig when you find the time?
Well the rig itself shouldn't take too long to do since I've had a lot of practice making them for the other vehicles in my pack however the animations may take more time since I was planning on experimenting with a few new features.
That thing is going to look so fucking sexy once you get the specular maps(s) down. Not to say that it isn't sexy already.
Thank you very much, I have to admit I haven't really had much practice making new textures from scratch so I'm hoping that the first attempts won't come out too badly. I'm planning to use the baked ambient occlusion to help create the spec map so hopefully that will provide a helpful starting point.
i will agree it looks kick-ass now. only thing thats "nagging" me is the black stripes on it. XD other than that it looks really good! but the paint looks like a felt paint job. or matte or w/e you wanna call it. is it just the program or have you just not added any shiney-ness to it?
I just haven't got around to adding it yet, at the moment I've just been using the Ambient Occlusion shader on the model and nothing else but I was hoping for the next set of renders I may try using the Car Paint shader as well, this will add specular along with a few other effects.
When your making the car for gmod can you make it seem less like a source vehicle? Like have more noticeable suspension and maybe if you can have smoke come out of the exhaust pipe. Or have the whells make smoke and stopping.
I will be trying to do most of those things but you must remember that I am not a coder, I can change the vehicle performance script and I will be trying to make it realistic yet fun to use at the same time, however you have to remember that the Source engine was never really intended for in-depth vehicle simulation so it has limitations that only major changes to the game's code could rectify. As for the smoke effects, I think that I could probably make those sorts of particles in the particle SDK fairly easily but actually making them work with the car would require coding. I could ask Xyxen about adding this (in case you don't know he made the script which stops people getting into the trailers in my vehicle pack).
Hey chris if your planning to use music in its release vid how about using this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkN7qtMBCx8
Sorry I've already decided on the soundtrack for the trailer, in fact I've choreographed most of it as well.
Gee, i wonder why, i wonder why i am so angry with all these people asking about when the charger will be released... ...sorry, but thats just me...
i understand about that everyone are asking but i haven't been on this thread for a while so i just wanted a status report [editline]30th October 2010[/editline] BTW is it possible to make exhaust smoke for gmod?
Will the car handle like in the video? (Just wondering, some people use special effects and shit to make it look like that.)
Sentry if you don't find that answer Then you must not know what he is working on!
Any plans for police version? (if the model is done of course, take your time)
Shaddup samantha >:C
Any plans for police version? (if the model is done of course, take your time)
Not really, didn't we already discuss this before? or was that about the Fueled mod Shelby? I have to admit I'm warming to the idea since seeing NFS: Hot Pursuit but it's not likely.
This car will be drivable when it's done and will have a range of colours which you will be able to switch between with the skin changer tool. Colour List: 1. Red 2. Orange 3. Black 4. White 5. Silver 6. Light Blue 7. Dark Blue 8. Purple 9. Copper 10. Yellow 11. Yellow with green stripes (EP2 car replacement) 12. General Lee - won't be in first release. bodygroups List: - Light Covers, these will be included as a separate Bodygroup for when you want to have lights showing or not. I'm hoping to get someone to make some simple code to allow the the covers to go up and down as an animation later on. - Emblems, The 'Charger', 'R/T' and 'Hemi' badges will be removable, if you want a discreet look. This also includes the R/T decal and stripe on the rear of the car. - The right hand side-view mirror will be optional, as it was on the real chargers. - Bull Bar, to go with the General Lee skin but can be used with any of them. - Roll Cage, to go with the General lee skin but can be used with any of them. - Wheels, the default will be the Magnum 500s that are currently on the car. What others do you want to see? Remember, try to think how they would look on this car and not some massive SUV or Tuner. At the moment the wheel list is this: - Magnum 500 - Dodge Dog Dish Hubcap - American Racing Vector - American Racing TTO - American Racing Outlaw II
can you add the jimmy gibbs colour, nascar jimmy gibbs body et wheel please
can you add the jimmy gibbs colour, nascar jimmy gibbs body et wheel please
Huh?
Huh?
Jimmy Gibbs Jr. from L4D2.
can you add the jimmy gibbs colour, nascar jimmy gibbs body et wheel please
Why? It would be easier to just get the model straight from L4D2 and just recompile it as a drivable vehicle. There's no need to try and remake that car when it's right there.
can you add the jimmy gibbs colour, nascar jimmy gibbs body et wheel please
as Master Chris said before:
I am not taking any more requests, so don't ask any more.
