Well, Irrational went out of their way to include high resolution textures. If you're going to get a pack to use, you'd expect the best quality. I liked one of Mail's first ideas: A reasonable resolution pack, and an ultra resolution pack. That way, if you want the max resolution, you can get it. I'd want the max resolution - It is the most faithful to the base textures used. I'd rather not sacrifice quality just because currently the technology gets no benefit from it. We can future-proof things, too.

Personally, I don't CARE if it's High quallity or NOT! But if it will reduce the size of the pack, while still looking awesome, then DO IT! EDIT: And stop fighting!

If you reduce the quality of the models, by the way, I'm not using. Don't squander your hard work. Just be smart and don't release everything in a giant bloated pack. Do the main character pack and release that, then do a separate one for enemies and other random guys. Logistically it makes no sense to toss every character into the game into one download. So don't! :)

Most of us use graphics cards though, and anything made around 201X can handle a few hundred 2k textures on the screen at the same time. Any graphics card since olden times has dedicated hardware to handle such tasks.

The vertex manipulation shows up as both a slider and an actual sequence in the modelviewer. I have tried loading this model in other source games, it crashes.

When I was working on the SMNC characters, I originally had the 1024² textures for the models. When Ekanaut went and released the model sources for the characters with double that resolution textures, it did indeed make quite a quality difference. Instead of having muddy lines everything was nice and crisp. Also on the same note, the models from Tribes Ascend with their 4096² textures look absolutely amazing in Source Filmmaker when you're making a poster. In a video it doesn't matter so much but for a poster or the like it really does make a difference. Just my 2 cents. [editline]8th May 2013[/editline] Oh yeah, something else I forgot to mention, it also depends on how much of the model the texture covers. If the whole body uses one 1024² texture compared to a 4096² texture, especially if it's a big model on something like a mech, you'll really notice a difference. I may have worded that badly, but hopefully you get the gist of it.

Psst, make both packs. I never intended to use these in Source games, still don't. I'd rather have the highest quality for documentation on BioShock Wiki. If you want a Source Pack that doesn't need high definition, that can be there too. But having the high definition versions on the ready would be very nice for multiple purposes.
