Have you ever had a girlfriend, that may be besides the point since I haven't but I'm atleast interested in girls.
I got a fiance, beat that. lol
You guys are so childish and unsympathetic.
I have nothing against them. I just don't like them.
Those two scentences will keep me up all night, but all right, I'll lay off.
Actually people you say why don't you want sexy i like original model of Alyx and thats it .
It sucks that he's not getting any serious responds though.
I'm not even going to ASK where this came from...
How are you confused?
Is it relly that hard to understand that some people just don't like that Alyx is female?
Maybe you could make Gordon into a female, or just change the sex of everyone :).
This guy needs to play some other game. Like Army of Two or some crap like that.
Jokes aside, imagine changing Alyx's role from the smoking hot, kick-ass video babe to a tolerable, but competant scrappy who worships the ground you kill Combine on while at the same time being an alright character to have behind you in a fight?
He'd talk much less, if that's any consolation.

Yes?
I don't mind your request. But you need to be more descriptive.
:downs: x 0 (list)
I really miss the dumb rating.
How would they work the portal gun into that?!
Peeping Tom?
All i get from this thread are people questioning each others sexuality...:v:
Look, if you don't like hot chicks, and you do like big buf guys (not implying anything) then bigCman is right, go play Gears of War or something like that.
What the fuck. Somebody stole my name. Don't call blooregardo Bloo, call me Bloo!
Ontopic: Yeah, this would be interesting. Although I do like Alyx Vance, an "Alex" Vance would be sorta cool. Just for the hell of it, I wanna make a face-pose-able Alyx Barney. :keke:
Okay, you're either gay, or you're 8.
I don't have anything against gay people, so if you're absolutely sure, I'll talk to Taggart or somebady to do this for you.
If you're 8, you'll grow out of this phase.
this might make you reconsider

yes, that is a guy
Even if you did change her model, she/he will still sound the same. That would be quite funny actually :v:
I see the reasoning. 1: How many women do you know that are mechanics that can use a gun well? 2: Are they a novelty character? 3: Action movies and the classic hero or sidekick. 3: Sexual tension is a poor excuse for a plot device.
Come on Valve, she had her own episode, you could have given other characters ones with different game dynamics. Barney's could involve more destruction and maybe a hijacked combine apc, one of the scientists could have one with more physics puzzles and canal-esque chases.
EDIT: Might I state that I was referring to personal experience, not HL2 and wasn't attempting to say that no women know how to use a gun or have a grasp of mechanics.
I just think that Alyx is almost like a child's new favorite toy*. They just want to use her wherever possible. That or another unfortunate demographic stereotype. Not all gamers are so obsessed with "hot girls" that we can't play a game without them.
(*Valve is the child)
Why does it matter? I mean, really, Alyx is a frigg'n NPC. 3d polygons, not male or female. It's a digital render made in the image of a human female. Polygons =/= Attractive. And besides, it just somehow makes more sense that Alyx would be a chick as she moves, behaves, and talks like one. Not to mention, changing the dialogue would be much more trouble than it's worth. You would have to root out every time they say "She" when referring to Alyx. Basically, just get over it. It wouldn't make more sense, it wouldn't be better, it would be the same game, when it comes down to it, I'm sure it wouldn't matter.
Now, there's a couple of different reasons why I could see you wanting a replacement, but they are very unlikely.
Jealous Girlfriend (A friend of mine is going out with a girl who freaks out at any remote semblance of another female.)
You're living with your parents, and they freak out that she wears that hoodie so "low"
You're a strict sexist who hates the thought of a technologically savvy woman.
You're afraid you might have a thing for her and this really bugs you.
I'm not saying any of these ARE the reason you want this, just these are the only reasons I could think of.

1. Every woman I've seen in HL2,except maybe Mossman, knows how to use a gun. Alyx just happens to be the daughter of someone she could learn mechanical crap from.
2. Necessary Cliche
3. Agreed.

4. This too. Barney is seriously underplayed for his experiences in Black Mesa.
To be honest, most of this would better fit a full blown mod. That way, it would fit, there could still be an Alyx part, and she wouldn't get old.
I hate Alyx. She seems useless in gameplay battles. She can't even shoot properly.
Now we seem to have gone from an... 'Alternative' request to downright sexism. This is a future where it is kill or be killed. Maybe your just not pulling your own weight and blaming it on the NPCs? That's what most people do when they lose.
To the original poster: Alyx is a woman for a reason. This isn't a game for steroid pumping dudes who drink constantly and pop pills on the weekend. If you want a manly sidekick then you are looking at the wrong game.
They made Alyx a girl for a reason. They call it CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. From the start of half life 2 through the episodes we've been able to see Alyx develop and change due to everything that has happened. In Episode 3, we will see her change even more because of what happened at the end of episode 2. So just live with what valve gave us.
Well, maybe some of us want to see a different character develop and change.
Also, if everyone just "lived" with what they got, no mods would be made.
This thread is made of gay :D
Also, I don't want Alyx to leave the HL series before she has rough sex with gordon and dies of an intensive orgasm that will blow up City 101 (random numbered city).
Oh, and you do realise that if we changed Alyxs model to a guy in the games.... you know, everyone would talk about that guy as a "she" and he would have a very ga... feminine voice :P

If Valve was so worried about character development, then they got a whole lot of loose ends to tie up.
Starting with Doctor Collete Green, Doctor Gina Cross, Doctor Stanley Rosenberg, his assistants Walter and Simmons, Corporal Adrian Shephard (yes, I played OP4, I know how the story goes). What about the other cast? Like Barney? Where's he?
They're burning all that developmental potential just on one character. Alyx was a novel idea in HL2, but two episodes later of nothing BUT her....?
Here is my question: Who would you replace her with? That's what I was trying to get at.
mossman
This thread is awesome. Everyone's getting offensive and serious about it.

Steroids are bad. Drinking is bad. Popping pills is bad. What makes you think I do that? And I said MASCULINE, as in a person of the masculine gender, not necessarily a "manly" one. And there is no reason a man can't develop their character. Being a male or female doesn't matter if someone wants to blame an npc. And I have finished the game successfully 5 times now, all on hard mode.
Wah. This thread is dead.
