I'm making a bayonet, first time i've tried modelling anything like a blade but i think it turned out decent.

Just got the little strap that attaches it to the scabbard left to make. I'm going to be making two types, so i think I'll model them both then UV them to the same textures once they're done.
Texturing progress and shit.

I really want to advance more in 3D modeling, but I'm just in a stump. I have no clue how to do UV unwrapping or anything beyond that. And it's been awhile since I've modeled something. Anyone know of any good tutorials on UV unwrapping in Maya?
I feel like i can model somewhat decently, but i'm just no good at texturing or uvmapping stuff.
I'm hoping to get some practice in and improve a little when i uv/texture these:

My computer died and I'm wondering if you guys have recommendations for:
Video card- $200-300
Processor- $200-350
Motherboard- $100-200
Memory(minimum 16GB)- $100-250
Solid State Drive- $100-200
Power Supply Unit- $100-200
Case- $100-200

you'd probably get better answers over in the pc building subforum.

Why build a computer when you can buy a mac for triple the price and half the performance?
I hope you get everything sorted out, I had a Hard Drive crash on me that I've lost about 3 months of unbackuped work, it sucks.
I have all my game art stuff on google drive (they just changed their prices, $2/month for 100Gb)
, no need to worry about backing up shit etc

It does indeed suck. I also just lost my computer, and since I was too poor to have any hard drives to back it up, I lost three years worth of work. Now I'm stuck with typing this on a friggin phone, which is terrible. Touchscreen keyboards can go to hell.

I made what is apparently a portable space generator.

I'm just texturing everything at 2048x2048 or similar until I feel space is a concern. I'd rather take a few minutes to downscale then redo a ton of bakes and texturing to upscale.
It generates space? Awesome!

Is this part of a mod or something? Cause it looks amazing.

I think your lighting could use a little more contrast.

It's for a western game!

Ideally there would be more darker values yes but this is mostly a compromise due to Torque 3D's poor lighting system. The ambient light color is set rather high which fits the open environments but in turn also makes structural lighting a bit too bright (although there also happened to pass by a dust particle when I took that shot, here's a clean one http://puu.sh/8hBjx.jpg).

Ah alright that looks much better. Also, I'd add a shadow decal if you can under the buildings. Would help it fit in better

Aye, living backups are nice.
I generally have my current project or two on my skydrive since I do stuff on my home computer and work computer plus occasional touchup on my surface; once I finish something I generally move it to a folder on my home computer where I'll manually back things up about once every other month. On top of that, I keep files that are essential to my workflow on dropbox + a few USB keys. I'm good, short of nuclear war and EMP strikes.
Loosing stuff blows big time, everything I did from before 2003 is nothing but a faint memory the got zapped with a computer fry; I've always been diligent about backups ever since then (In typing this though, that's a solid track record and I don't thing anything I did a decade ago is even pertinent today). I keep everything - I have every file I've downloaded in the past 10 years somewhere on my hard drives.

Models done, now on to uving and texturing them.
These are probably the eighth and ninth things I've modeled, so i think they came out pretty well.
One thing that you would really benefit from is looking into normal maps. It will bring a whole new dimension to your models.
I know what normal maps are, just those come after it's actually UVmapped :v:
This is going into source so I'm not going to forget those. It's just incredibly rough base colors at the moment.
Anyone know of a good way to add in bike welds?
