Your presentation also needs some work. I don't need to see the fancy graph background. I want to see the models at several different angles as well as proper lighting being thrown across it to show off your multiple maps.
And pretty much what Sam said. Don't throw on a over arching filter or texture or anything ontop of it. Make a custom mask or what have you for your object. For example, the shield might show paint wear around the sides and corners but maybe not on the flat metal places.
Okay, now that was helpful. So, something like this? I see now that the 'cloud' filter as you put it was glaring. It was supposed to be wear and tear, but too much of a good thing. So here we go again.

I realize I was probably waaay too conservative with the polys after looking at the official flare gun model wireframe.
It's unwrapped and ready to be textured, but I'm gonna round some more things out and give the cylinders some more vertices. Need to add the 3 bolts as well.
Anyone have any tips or criticsm? Specifically on optimization and stuff. This was done in Blender.

It does look good, but as you said, it could really do with being higher poly and everything.

Anyone here know how to animate? Im having troubles trying to attach a flashlight to a rig so I can animate it. The flashlight and hands rotate separately from one another causing problems.
I dunno what program you use to animate, but its commonly known in intermediate circles to parent one bone to another. That way, when one moves, the other moves with it, along the parent's axis of movement. I don't know how to do that in anything other than 3ds max, however, but you could look up "Parenting" in reference to animation and/or bone rigging.

Parent or link constrain the hands ik controller to the flashlight.
