I'd love to get into modeling for source. I figured you guys could recommend me some program to start as I am completely oblivious to the subject. (I'm sorry if I shouldn't be posting questions here, I just thought this didn't deserve a new thread.) Thanks in advance! edit: I figured I'm gonna give blender a try!

At first I used XSI and hated max, thought it was stupid and that Id never be able to make stuff with it. Now that Ive actually spent time with it, I love it much more than I ever did XSI.

The hair is a quick mockup. I'm trying to decide whether he should have hair.

How many years you been modeling for, John?
Has anyone ever done anything with a copper material that they wouldn't mind posting the diff/spec/gloss maps for? I'm having real trouble getting it to look right. Non-PBR by the way.
looks more like brass tbh.
Yeah. I wouldn't call my finest hour in material definition work, but the framework is there to tweak it for copper.
Looks like a weird R-9A
it's a ship i made when i was doing stuff for audiosurf 2
[t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16349584/3d%20models%202014/why_is_making_water_so_difficult.png[/t] I imported a map i made in hammer using wall worm and i wanted to see if i could add in water in post. Well... this is going to be difficult...

I just discovered the Paint Object tool in 3ds Max, and is it ever easier to make trees now with good looking branches. I had placed them all by hand before which took forever to get right. John, do you sleep?
John, do you sleep?
Maybe john sleep-models. It'd make sense - I'm guessing that for his 100th max tutorial, he'll finally break down how he set up his neural link with max.
he sleeps half a brain at a time

Had a go at redo-ing the brass a similar way - I think it's too heavily saturated, and the whole thing needs dirtying up, but I'm quite happy with how it looks now, considering how long it is since I've done much 3D work. Edit: pretty happy with the materials now, just need to grunge the fuck out of it.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/nsjGAuZ.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/beICrdX.png[/t] I've been sitting on this guy for a long time. I know someone else has made him as well, but since his is more Generations based, and mine is more from the old art of him, I think I can release him one day. Here's another I need to finish. Speedmodel - About 45 min. Didn't bother with the straps, obviously. [t]http://files.gamebanana.com/bitpit/seiko.jpg[/t]
What would the best way to create an ejection port like this? [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4112921/ejectionport.JPG[/t]
What would the best way to create an ejection port like this? [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4112921/ejectionport.JPG[/t]
Boolean, just make sure to clean up the stray verts.
