Thanks for all the help, guys. Anyways, I'm posting to ask if I should delete from a model faces that won't be seen (e.g. faces that are embedded inside geometry)?
Yes
The front half is modeled after the Snub nose, cause I love its design. The back half is modeled after the Peace Keeper Pulse pistol from Farscape.

IMO the stand / background is taking away from the overall render and also your focal piece
IMO the stand / background is taking away from the overall render and also your focal piece
That is true, might as well remove the stand. The background and other lighting is also for a Advanced lighting and particles summative, so gotta keep some of it. Other screenshots and shit can be found on my website/blog/porfolio.

So, I made this, and I need tip (or some tutorial) for texturing it: [t]http://puu.sh/2X5Hz.png[/t]
cranked this thing out today
Have another gun model :v: [thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/svd_meshXwireframe.PNG[/thumb] Low poly. As always, comments/criticism is much appreciated. Oh, and please excuse the floating elevation knob.
What's up with that cylinder in the thumbhole?
What's up with that cylinder in the thumbhole?
Uh, not really sure tbh. I copied everything from my reference. :v: That aside, I tried to bake the normals for the first time, but ended up with this abomination. [thumb] http://filesmelt.com/dl/whatthefuck9.PNG[/thumb] help? :(
cranked this thing out today
Haha, I think I stole your info bar at the bottom, I was wondering where I got that idea from :v: my bad. [editline]20th May 2013[/editline] Took about 3 hours to texture [t]https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/981367_530338933690035_2127647626_o.jpg[/t] [t]https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/966694_530338957023366_587350791_o.jpg[/t] I couldn't decide which GIF I liked. I feel if you are going to have a rotating gif, you need to keep the light and camera stationary and rotate the model. Otherwise the lighting looks baked on.
Also it jitters too much, I can't really look at a certain part of it. Pictures look nice though.
Also it jitters too much, I can't really look at a certain part of it. Pictures look nice though.
Yea I guess we're not living in the 2000's so gif file size isn't to big of a deal :v: i'll see what i can do about re uploading those.
I've been working on a head off and on for about 6 months. I sit down once or twice a month, model for 20 minutes or so until I get bored and then get back to it later. Here's progress pics: [t]http://i.imgur.com/PUijzMt.png[/t] i modeled just the nose first one night when i was tripping and wanted to show off to friends. later i extruded a head sized block from the back of the nose but decided that was the wrong way to do it. i did trace facial features on the block though and kept those. [t]http://i.imgur.com/i6kfXTE.png[/t] deleted the back of the face and started moving vertices one by one to mold it. [t]http://i.imgur.com/uaPh5yX.png[/t] really got going one night and spent like an hour to get it here. as it stands now. last couple times i have worked on it have been to clean up edge flow. organics are tough.
When I made my first head, I started with the default basic male head from Softimage / XSI. Cleaned it up, fixed / remodeled the ear, tweaked a few things, then done. It now serves as the base head for everything I will make in the future. If I do a symmetry adjustment with soft select, i can pretty much tweak it to be anything (With the help of ZBrush)
yeah, i wanted to try something from scratch though. i wish i could find front/side drawings of of people, or orthographic pics of the front and sides of people. would make modeling a human way easier. Edit: check out some other old stuff [t]http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f400/DougBailey/hatdargonfastrender.jpg[/t] dragon [t]http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f400/DougBailey/m32render04.jpg[/t] the model i am most proud of [t]http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f400/DougBailey/goodrendergundam.jpg[/t] gundam
Psst. Check out DAZ studio. Its a free program and allows for people posing and stuff.
I tried DAZ, it was neat and all at first, but meh. Doing it all in a modelling software is better imo.
Psst. Check out DAZ studio. Its a free program and allows for people posing and stuff.
You seem to be lacking in knowledge.
version i tried to make looks bleh
And just how am I lacking in knowledge? Sure, DAZ 4 isn't free, but the previous versions ARE. In fact, take a look here. Lacking in knowledge, bah. http://daz-studio.en.softonic.com/

True, it does have a very difficult rigging process, however it does have a very good selection of premades that do come more or less for free, and you can use it for base renders or as a modeling dummy.
