You should add a smooth modifier before you export.
smart. any way to edit the mesh after i put uv unwrapping on it without redoing the whole thing? [editline]9th June 2013[/editline] [t]http://f2.braxupload.se/uihirq.jpg[/t]
Yes, you can add another Edit Mesh modifier on top.
Yes, you can add another Edit Mesh modifier on top.
apparently not, it still deletes the unwrap thing, and i can't undo it
Did you right-click the model and "Convert to Editable Poly" or did you add an Edit Poly modifier from the dropdown on the right? Because it sounds like you did the former.
Pistol model made in highpoly and baked gonna tackle the texture tomorrow.
Short attention span, people trying to be funny in the videos, dragging out shit that's retard friendly.. Yeah no this thing isn't for me. I got a student license for 3ds max so it was free at least.
I would highly recommend this video set if you have the cash. After hearing the preview of how clearly this guy speaks, I went ahead and got the instant download. Believe me when I say that I have NEVER learned so much within so little time. He never deviates from the point, forgets to say things, etc. He's like a machine in the way he does his tutorials. The only issue for me is actually getting sleepy after a long time of watching. I've been doing nothing but learning from this set for 3 days straight, and I can tell you it is very effective. He covers everything I couldn't even find in my aimless Google searches. You can click the link and preview the videos to see what I mean. For me, it was very much worth it. He'll even repeat steps for each command every time you use them, so the repetition helps as well.

I think I'm getting the hang of 3DS Max. Next stop working for James Cameron.
smart. any way to edit the mesh after i put uv unwrapping on it without redoing the whole thing? [editline]9th June 2013[/editline] [t]http://f2.braxupload.se/uihirq.jpg[/t]
Collapse the unwrap modifier?
[t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1157653/TEMP/crossbow_texwip.jpg[/t] a lot of things went wrong while making this but thats ok
I don't know if it's on purpose, but the body is not made of wood, it's a square metal tube. Right now, it look like the BlackMesa crossbow. Other than that, it's really good!
I hope I get even just half as good as you, Juniez! But until then, I'll be playing around with cloth, trying to see what everything does. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/1XPL3DF.png[/thumb]
Finally had enough time and motivation to make a 3d model of a head. This is my first one, what do you think? sorry for the crap lighting by the way.
Finally had enough time and motivation to make a 3d model of a head. This is my first one, what do you think?
I'd say it's a good start. Do you plan on using this as a base mesh for sculpting?
I'd say it's a good start. Do you plan on using this as a base mesh for sculpting?
Thanks. Not really. Despite the overall outside look, inside a lot of things are messed up (like the ear connection). I hope I'll fix it in the future models.
Holy shit that looks mad, I would love it if you did a tutorial on your texture workflow Juniez.
just gather a bunch of bases and slap em together
I don't know if it's on purpose, but the body is not made of wood, it's a square metal tube. Other than that, it's really good!
it was entirely intentional because i thought it could use some variety (and also i like wood)
Collapse the unwrap modifier?
i never really got it to work, i probably set them all in the wrong order. i redid the uv map
just gather a bunch of bases and slap em together it was entirely intentional because i thought it could use some variety (and also i like wood)
you make some amazing textures and models. bless us with your secrets
you make some amazing textures and models. bless us with your secrets
thanks! it's really weird because I always thought textures were the weakest part of my stuff and now everyone seems to like it for some reason? i dunno
I decided to redo the low poly of my UTAS since I really found the normal maps dodgy - apparently this neat tool called Handplane fixed most of my problems.
Handplane looks like a nifty tool. Should I swap to that instead of xNormal?
Handplane looks like a nifty tool. Should I swap to that instead of xNormal?
you still need to bake an object space normal map, so if you were using xNormal, you still need to use it (but output an obj space normal map instead of tangent space).
Yeah, as azgag said, Handplane does not replace the normal map rendering/baking process but eliminates baking artifacts that come from directly baked tangent space normal maps by using a object space normal map and calculating it into a tangent space normal map using the low poly model.
Why do I always open 3DS Max when I'm hungry
