yep really fucked up the handle though
It's ok. My lip of the mug was so sharp it would cut you
small dump of a zippo i've been working on. Just a high poly low poly work flow practice along with some new re topology tests [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/VNxGXX.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/1x1X6J.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/xbGKtp.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/0rgGbv.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/SEtHdG.jpg[/t] Only a few things to fix in post, like turning up the scratch level and fixing a few occlusion errors. oh and it's at 3141 tris
Took me about two hours. Had to draw the texture, which took time as I am a newbie to Photoshop. Previous model using a seamless texture
I love that you got the font right. You should texture on a large seam for the plastic wrap and also add the indentations at the top.
I'm on 32bit and this won't render for me, lame, hopefully I can use a friend's PC to render it when I'm back in Uni after this Sunday. Here's some wires in the meantime, 2 screws are missing from the side of the EOLAD because I'm remaking them.
Wow I wish I could make something on this level. Practice is all I need... .Lots of it. And also I have never seen so many polys before lol. But it is really good!
I love that you got the font right. You should texture on a large seam for the plastic wrap and also add the indentations at the top.
Sorry about my idiotic nature, but what's a plastic wrap? I'm guessing it's the blue band?
Sorry about my idiotic nature, but what's a plastic wrap? I'm guessing it's the blue band?
he means the entire casing around the capacitor. there's usually a little seam where the plastic wraps around and meets itself.
he means the entire casing around the capacitor. there's usually a little seam where the plastic wraps around and meets itself.
Ah ok, thanks. [editline]20th October 2013[/editline] I applied a bumpmap to imitate a wrap end. I also made a few minor adjustments:
looking very nice! make one of the clear ones next, there are clear ones, right?

he made a capacitor, not a led.
Not the best looking LED, but I guess it works:
Some more WIP for the night This is actually new territory for me. I've never done really reflective metal, and it's throwing me threw a loop. I have the diffuse really dark and the specular and gloss really high. [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/Plr1ch.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/LV0yPE.jpg[/t]

[t]http://i.cubeupload.com/Plr1ch.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/LV0yPE.jpg[/t]
Just wondering, how do you make that imprint( The picture of the Earth and also the phrase)? Is it just a bumpmap or what?
you could probably do it with xnormal's photoshop tools or any other normal generation software by feeding it a heightmap and overlaying it
you could probably do it with xnormal's photoshop tools or any other normal generation software by feeding it a heightmap and overlaying it
Thanks mate.
Just wondering, how do you make that imprint( The picture of the Earth and also the phrase)? Is it just a bumpmap or what?
Pretty much what Juniez said. In my case I did it in the highpoly using an alpha stamp in zBrush. I took the fancy approach, though I would say it was unnecessary and I could have easily done it in nDo with very similar results. I just felt like being fancy and showing off a highpoly with the text embedded :v:
Hmm. How does the highpoly alpha stamp work? I assume it is the function which can cause a surface to get up to millions of faces? (Or so I read on some guide)
Hmm. How does the highpoly alpha stamp work? I assume it is the function which can cause a surface to get up to millions of faces? (Or so I read on some guide)
Essentially. You make a face a million or so faces (4 million in my case) and then you over lay the alpha ontop of it and it will go up or down depending on your alpha and your settings. So black would be down and white would be no change.
he made a capacitor, not a led.
okay, thanks, but you don't need to repeat what he said yo i got confused, as i wasn't sure (read above at my latest post) c:
dat grain
Spent some time making the texture for this thing: Still some stuff that'll need doing like AO, but so far so reasonable Maybe I should start bothering to render stuff properly eh
Is the text meant to be metal or? I feel like if the wood around the text reflected the fact that the metal was adhered to the wood in some way, either by texture or by lighting, it would be much more convincing. Otherwise it looks a bit off.
looking at the wood, the metal text should be more rusty, right now it's popping out too much
looking at the wood, the metal text should be more rusty, right now it's popping out too much
There should be some kind of a shadow behind the text too.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone: Shadows, more rust, fixings and messed with the colours a bit Edit: Updated so the text floats slightly less
