If you want it to be faster use a normal map. It's really application specific. Like if it's for a game engine 95% of the time it should be normal mapped. If it's for a fancy render you can usually model as much as you'd like pending you can spare the render time.

Can anyone here bake an AO for me? I've asked two people and (although I value their effort) neither can get it right. Either it's dark as hell or littered with artifacts. Just add me on Steam.

But due to current internet settings on the home comp I'm unable to send it to you at the moment. I also baked it at 2048 x 2048 because it looks smoother and can easily be resized.

I've been wanting to learn to model for a while now, so I picked up a Digital Tutors subscription and am going through their introduction to Maya. So far I've finished the modelling and am moving on to doing materials. I followed the digital tutors thing for awhile and decided it was too slow for me. I also switched back to Blender
