Thanks Arachnidus, but I'm just lucky nobody else decided that Gmod and Star Trek ships were perfect for eachother - especially considering both the simplicity of porting to GMOD & the popularity of space build.
Update: I didnt quit, but I did start about a dozen other projects since I began Enterprise-E & they just sort of stole my interest - after all, this is a hobby not a job. It was hard to pickup where I left off due to the design complexity that repelled me in the first place, but I sorted it out and it will indeed get done, but no promises as to when.
I'll post some pics later, but for now just subscribe to the thread and keep an eye on it.
some you can get inside i think one or two you have to noclip in too
Defiant & Enterprise-E have full bridges with ground access. 'Full Bridge' might even be an understatement for these 2 ships. They both have foldout ramps cut directly from their hulls, complete with marked hinges & stairs on the inside. The Enterprise-E has a retractable docking frame custom fitted for its type 11 shuttle which when docked, allows players to exit via a catwalk into the shuttlebay, and onto the bridge via elevator.
It is the most complex docking system ever implemented into a GMOD prop to my knowledge, but is necessary due to the drastic scale difference between Enterprise-E & the Type-11 shuttle. If the shuttle is not securely held within the Enterprise's hull, its nacelles will protrude from the sides, not to mention there is no opening even half the required size to accommodate a standard landing. Additionally, the mechanical nature of the whole thing is just amazing, albeit far from canon.
Please browse through the previous pages of this thread for more information and pictures about this docking system. In short, ALL of this was done specifically to eliminate the need for NOCLIP and it is absolutely not needed once the parts are wired together.
The Klingon Bird of Prey has a simple bridge made from the dome on the 'head' of the ship. The dome's surface was flipped, and glass windows were cut in that are only visible from inside.
This dome is separate and is intended to be raised and lowered via hydraulic. Since this ship is small and the bridge is simple, it best serves as fodder for the federation ships, but is still fun to fly simply because of the wicked ship design and nice visibility from the bridge – something my federation ships lack.
Sorry to anyone who prefers Klingons, but I'd have implemented a better bridge in if I had found one. I tried to modify the Klingon bridge from Bridge Commander, but it was more of a diorama - only intended to be seen from one narrow angle, and was missing floors, walls, the backs of chairs, and the ceiling. Too many repairs for such a crappy model to begin with.
The Romulan Warbird is extremely large compared to the other ships. As is currently intended, it will have physics everywhere but the top half of the 'head' so that players can weld modular bridges in such as the one found in that "UNSC - In Amber Clad" pack that’s been floating around forever.
The ships size allows it to encompass just about any bridge you place within the head, and once again, I couldn’t find any decent Romulan bridges.
If anyone has Star Trek Online beta client, for the love of god, send it to me so I can rip content from it.
The Borg cube has no bridge and consists of only one physics object, and I bet you can’t guess what shape it is. Borg Tactical Cube and Borg sphere will also be in final pack. These 3 are most definitely fodder. Not because I hate Borg, but because I loathe the idea of flying around in such a ridiculously shaped object which has no obvious orientation. In my opinion, Borg bridges are equally boring. I would honestly rather fly a blue dumpster.
All ships are to scale with one another, except the Defiant & Borg vessels.
Reasons are as follows:
Properly scaled Borg ships would consume the entire map, and the spacious bridge I ripped from ‘DS9: The Fallen’ would have had to be butchered beyond recognition to make it fit, ruining its stamp of authenticity.
Real life is difficult for me at the moment so please be patient. The only thing I can promise is that I don’t plan to quit *leering at SFC*
I think that covers everything for now.
It does, indeed. I'll be waiting anxiously for the release !
Youve been featured on Legacy files.

lol nice
lol apwn someone likes you there
One person does, but read the comments, and you'll see that some people don't agree.
And don't let Bethesda catch you O.o
Some of the moderators on the site, were looking of permission to use Bethesda models, get in their boat and what your doing wont be a little less then legal.
Are you going to do any dominion vessels. Because if you aren't I'll try

Do it! In fact, we should seriously turn this into a group effort and release everything together in a big pack with proper credits.
I'm not actually playing Legacy, and probably wont. I'm just ripping these models from the ship selection screen and the dominion is not an available faction. Are dominion ships featured in the campaign?
No their aren't, but thats what legacy files is for. I plan on asking Gdata, the head of Trek Battles, if I can use the model. I doubt he'll say no. I already ripped it, and Im matching Up texture, But I have a hard time with collision meshes.
Ill be useing models form the last version of Trek Battles, so there shouldnt be a problem (The new ones dont rip properly).
i still have not managed to voyager out of my space dock just redownloading it my pc died
:( stuck to a laptop with one gb of ram i wish my pc was still alive
I just finished Enterprise-D (V2) and will have pictures up later.
Features:
*new exterior model from ST:Legacy complete with bump, phong, & selfillum
*Sized to scale with my other ships, so is slightly larger than v1
*MASSIVE shuttlebay, as large as could be reasonably fit inside the saucer
*MASSIVE shuttlebay door, which is even large enough for my Type 11 shuttle
This version also comes in parts, but this time the saucer connects to the neck with an interlocking rail, allowing the hull to rejoin with the saucer if piloted seperately!
I'm very busy with life stil, but as I said, I'm working on all this shit when I have time, and it will be released as a giant pack.
PS: I saw a runabout in Star Trek Online, but it crashed everytime I tried to rip it.
Awesome, Get it uploaded man! I cant wait to see it!
Sorry I took so long. Here are pics of the redone Enterprise-D V2. I'll post a video of the hull/saucer docking/undocking system later.
Keep in mind this laptop cannot render phong for some reason and even the basic shading is a little crappy looking, even though it supports DirectX 9c. Blame ATI I guess? Every other effect is visible though. Future pics will not be taken using this pos though.

As you can see, the shuttlebay door cuts into the saucer rather than protruding from the top of it as in (v1) so as not to ruin the basic original shape. The door is large enough to dock the Type 11 shuttle which traditionally belongs to Enterprise-E, not not so much anymore I guess. The type-11 shuttle has a full bridge, corridors, and a transporter on board. Search 'ApwnInTheDark' 'HoloNav' on youttube for a video of this amazing shuttle.
omfg dude that looks really cool i still can't wait to try it out :D
Pretty damn wicked.
Btw, any chance you're interested in porting the 2009 Enterprise at some point?
There's this one: http://legacy.filefront.com/file/STXI_Constitution_class;99608
But I'd say hold off until a newer one is released, that one isn't quite accurate. (but do keep in mind, she should be bigger than the Ent D or E)
nice. well if i did it would prolong the release of my pack, but I wouldnt mind if I could find the 2009 bridge model for it. I would hate to drop some crap 1960s era bridge in.
However, if scaled to my other ships, it would be so small that no decent bridge would fit anyways so id be forced to put a generic box bridge inside of it with low clearance so it doesnt clip through the pancake saucer.
I have a wierd obsession to retain as much 'official' geometry and textures as I can (anything created by official game studios rather than joe the modder), so on that note, I will see about grabbing the exterior model from that ridiculous DAC game which is pretty high quality for such a low quality game.
Edit: PS: Scroll back through the pages of this thread to see how insanely small the older starships are when scaled to mine. They are about as long as voyager, which leaves zilch for vertical saucer space. I broke scale for the 'Defiant' because its such a badass ship to me, but to fit a bridge inside the older enterprises would require that they excede the length of Enterprise-D!! that or I fatten the saucers, which would look equally dumb. NX-01 is even worse. The saucer is razor thin,
Behold, the only thing D-A-C is good for - ripping 1 model from the main menu and uninstalling.. no kidding...
This Enterprise 2009 is 100% ported and has hallway entrance and generic box bridge. I just need to add gloss to the nacelle covers and animate the turbines underneath them. The physics model is also 100%.
When I polish up those last details I'll toss it in the pile and continue work on the other ships. Thanks for the idea Muffin.

apwn how many more ships is there lol i know of some you are doing but are you still doing the uss excelsior?
Jabba: I’m getting pretty quick at porting them so I suppose I can include the excelsior in the final pack but it will have to go at the end of the list for now.
HOWEVER, I've had the Excelsior model ripped, scaled, and textured with a full bridge for some time now. If anyone wants to work on EXCELSIOR I’ll send it! Optimize geometry, reorganize the textures, and create a physics model just to name a few.
Note: with the ship scaled to my other ships, and the bridge scaled to a player model, the bridge doesn’t quite fit inside the saucer. It protrudes a good 25%. (See page 1 or 2 of this thread for pictures of the bridge jammed inside the saucer) You would need to do some serious cutting and remodeling and I personally don’t like the Excelsior enough to undertake this task right now.
(See ‘If you wish to contribute:’ below.)
As far as what I currently intend to include the final pack, here is a complete list:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*USS Enterprise (2009)
*USS Enterprise-D (V2) ----------(Same bridge with optimizations, new and larger exterior model)
*Type 6 Shuttlecraft (V2) --------(Larger with added interior)
*USS Enterprise-E
*Type 11 Shuttlecraft
*USS Voyager (V2) ---------------(same models & textures as v1, but with countless optimizations)
*Type 9 Shuttlecraft (V2)---------(optimizations and added interior)
*USS Defiant
*Borg Cube
*Borg Tactical Cube
*Borg Sphere
*Klingon Bird of Prey (K'vort)
*Romulan Warbird (D'deridex)
*TNG Era Drydock
*Enterprise Era Drydock (V2) ------------ (Improved Shaders)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: All Federation vessels have interiors!
If you wish to contribute:
I also have federation starbase (the big mushroom) and Deep Space 9 models but they will not be released with this pack. I intend to embed them as static props in future maps featuring them, and build the usable map inside and around them. They are pretty much useless for anything else due to their size.
If any mappers are interested, I will send them to you. Just please know how to map and how to embed custom models into your map as pro mappers already should ;)
You would just need to build the hallways, rooms, place props, shuttlebays, lighting etc. If you need any additional holes cut in the models for shuttlebay/airlock placement I can do it for you, just be very specific with the screenshots/diagrams you send me because cutting,re-exporting, etc is sort of a pain in the ass. On that note, *try* to identify everything you need cut the first time around.
Also, if you would like to rip/port/phys ANY ships not already listed please do so. This pack can easily be twice as epic with just 1 person helping!
I will even post a super easy tutorial if even a few people are interested in helping me port content. There are probably about 50 selectable ships in Star Trek Legacy,(Federation, Klingon, Borg, Romulan) and tons of others throughout the campaign. They are currently the highest quality official models available, even more so than Star Trek Online. (In fact Star Trek: Online only has weird modular ships that only slightly resemble the originals, and no word if they make an appearance at some point) The shader textures match the Source Engine format almost perfectly but you wouldn’t need to worry about this. Just slap the main texture on and ill locate the proper shader textures and link them. (What the fuck.. I am compulsively writing the tutorial right now.)
Even if you don’t know much about 3DS Max, just state your desires to help and I will author the most user friendly guide on steps A-Z with an emphasis on starships. All you need to know is what X,Y,Z are and the rest will be explained in the tutorial - as well as YouTube where I learned everything.
Remember, I knew absolutely nothing when I started preparing for (Enterprise-D (V1)), and I’m fairly skilled at simplifying complicated concepts, so rest assured this guide would not confuse many.
Let me know how many of you are interested here, but I'll probably start a new thread anyways to see if more people are interested.
NEW THREAD: ApwnInTheDark's Star Trek Pack - DO YOU WISH TO ADD ANYTHING?
What were the details of the battle? Was the lag epic or reasonable? Wire lasers rock for phasers, but I havent found any good photon torpedos substitutes.
You could try using the stargate drone launchers in the place of photon torpedoes :)
nice i cant wait to see the enterprise E when are are these due to be released ? and id love to see a map of the enterprise E just the interior only. and your working on a borg cube as well ? nice work man nice work really.
Thanks man I appreciate the compliments.
The Borg vessels are just giant targets with no interiors and only 1 physics shape. Needless to say, they are all 100% completed.
Enterprise-E will probably never be made into a map because it would be grueling work to recontour every visible surface with the detailed brush collision data that was lost when it was ripped. This perfect visual/physical alignment is 1 major thing that makes a map different from a prop. The others are lightmapping, realtime shadows and realtime reflections, which I believe are still possible on dynamic map props, but havent checked. The best thing would be to just embed the ship into a map as a static or dynamic prop, but it would posess its relatively simple physics model.
Since I dont have the original quake 3 engine brush data, I see little hope of importing it into hammer, which I understand to be impossible anyways. How someone got Mario's castle into hammer is a freaking mystery i'd love to unravel. If he did recontour and texture the entire thing based on a model, holy crap that must have been tedious.
i downloaded the enterprise and the voager from http://www.garrysmod.org and in the game they were just blue errors that appered for a second and dissapered..... i extracted them to the right place properly, i have PHX3 and wire.. please tell me how to fix it cause it looks cool and i want to use them
blue errors?
Never seen or heard of that. Just extract your zip files directly into your garrysmod/addons folder and load game. Make sure you're using Garry's Mod 10
