I can't even do vta's yet! (Still preping Sally)
Most people developing player models cheat by using a VALVe skeleton and then simply include all VALVe animations thus the models get all human animations. Seeing Krystal is a non-human character she'd need to be stretched and adjusted to make a human skeleton work on her. Glaber would have to end up doing every single animation a player model needs to be capable to do by hand. Not feasable at all!
It would still be nice to have a player model though. Also I wanna know if this thing is gonna have jigglebone clothes, hair, etc. And it's collision better be workable because all the community made ragdolls I see are crap. Few more questions: 1. NPC? 2. Custom sounds? 3. Dialog for NPC? 4. Normals, Specular, Occlusion? 5. Multiple skins? and finally 6. Is the Garry's Mod version gonna be the same or similar quality as the renders?
6. Is the Garry's Mod version gonna be the same or similar quality as the renders?
Similar, I had to ruin the quallity of her hair to get her to compile at all.
Similar, I had to ruin the quallity of her hair to get her to compile at all.
I thought her hair might have been to complicated/too many triangles. Oh well.

The best approach is to attempt to scale it to hight, see if the limbs can reach already, and keep scaling the width and scretching/shortening limbs. Considering this there's barely any non-human player models out that don't look like crap, at least it's possible to make one people can tolerate. As for doing custom player animations, it has been attempted before. Go to garrysmod.org and search Sonic Player. There's a package of player models with custom skeletons. They do animate when the proper function's initiated, but they tend to go into reference pose when running. I don't know what's keeping it from working perfectly, but I think it has something to do with the animation's number of frames (like when the jump animation freezes at the end). The only way to really know is to attempt to fix it.

With the swap to the orangebox engine these animations are by default taken from source 2007 models.gcf - they have new names.. the Sonic models by Shakeno use old EP1 animations names. If they try to run a non-set animation then they return to t-pose. That's about it! Try them in GMod 9 and you'll see how well they could work!

I actually wasn't aware of the switch, since I've only started modeling for the Source engine but a few months ago. By the way, what other big changes happened from the switch?
basically most LUA STooLs seized working.. for models.. all models which use internal animations for player/NPC animations stopped working properly after it.. basically most models using animations use the boring "Include female_animations.ani" or related and thus import VALVe animations.. as those were swapped form source models.gcf to source 2007 shared models.gcf you wouldn't notice any difference.. as mentioned if a model used its own animations they often stopped working. Other model related things.. well.. 24 instead of 20 phys bones.. more spazzy due to newer havoc engine.. other than that.. on model side nothing!
Her hips/thighs look too small.
bump
Nothing's changed since the file dump earlier on the page.
What about the Garry's Mod version?
I peaty much lost interest after the test export due to all the vertices to reweigh to get her leg to look right. The files to continue though are father up on the page.
So let me get this straight. The model has texture and can be posed?
Thanks. I thought this thread died...
The model, yes, The ragdoll, not yet.If you want a complete ragdoll you're going to need to get someone else. I don't plan on returning to Krystal for quite a while now.
Ok. And it's in .max format? I'm not looking for the ragdoll anyway.
.max and SMD
Ok, thanks. I am just trying to make sure I understand everything correctly. Kinda new at 3D models.
Im sorry, but i can't let all this work go to waste. so bump
sorry but i refuse to read the whole thread! it took me nearly an hour just to page 7! could some1 who's been paying attention please just summurize the thread into one reply!? EDIT: took the time to read. i don't know why people are so hyped on a clothless version, if you guys are still working on the head, please try and keep it as close as possible to SF assault or adventures, my friend and i really hoping it turns out 16 times better then the crappy version thats on garrysmod.org
i usually don't do this, but because my friend is going nuts about the info i just gave her about this thread and the progress seen after reading all this stuff, i'm gonna hate myself for this but... Bump! i know you seem to have lost all interest in the project Glaber (and i feeling your never going to answer this reply) but out 1 and %100 how close were you to finishing it?
Canceled/100 You can continue from where I left off though. I left behind my latest progress on page 15. (just in case it's a new page) See this post for the files: http://www.facepunch.com/showpost.php?p=15475619&postcount=565

Though i'm still learning the ropes of the programs it is unlikely i will be able to complete the project at a reasonable time, 2-3 months to be exact. but i was able to get my hands on ripped and modified model's from Starfox Assault. they came in multiple formats and quality's. some more realistic then the others, the image on the left shows a lower quality model which i would prefer to be used for the player model, while the one on the right show's how realistic the fur is around the head and tail. http://tinypic.com/r/ddmibt/6 all texture's, model's, etc are included within the compressed folder. i'll still try to work on this project but i would still like someone to take the files and see if you can make them into a gmod player model and ragdoll. simply ask and i'll send you the file's via Yahoo mail (if i can figure out how to use it) i'm going to post this on a new thread later today since its using differen't files
check out my thread for a sign of progress. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=900399
There actually has been progress for a Krystal model, but it looks like a redo of the original model from a while back. It's made for Server-side CS:S, but I've run it in Gmod and it works...mostly. http://techknowmodels.19.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=335&highlight=krystal There are a lot of posing issues still, but basically it works as a placeholder until someone can either fix it up or get the higher quality model most want to see.
havent read the whole post as too its so long but is there any news on the starfox assault model?
havent read the whole post as too its so long but is there any news on the starfox assault model?
Nope, There hasn't been any recent news since the last person picked up the project. I Tried, but I'm not anywhere close to the right level. I'm planning on getting a Dvd i found on the internet that might help me, but that won't be for quite a while...
