and i've never heard of it lol is it any good ???
Well, it wasn't perfect, but it was basically Pimp My Starship, except way better.
i'll have to see if i can download/buy this but anyway any new stuff on the ships ? apwn
Nothing I particularly have to see added, but in your modeling it would be nice if you considered improving the visibility from inside. It's hard to navigate through a 6-foot window.
Nothing I particularly have to see added, but in your modeling it would be nice if you considered improving the visibility from inside. It's hard to navigate through a 6-foot window.
Good point. I assume you’re primarily referring to Voyager and on that ship it is totally possible. I’d just need to widen the window and cut the wall and just now added this to Voyager V2’s to-do list. Not all ships really benefit from this though. I widened the window on the Defiant for this reason.. but it was 4 feet and is now 6 and looks stupid because the sides are now hidden behind columns which I cannot remove without really screwing it up. Enterprise-D’s viewscreen is already monstrous (coming from bridge commander where you actually had to look through it in combat), and Enterprise-E is ok too but I think the wall will allow for widening so I’ll give that a shot. It just varies from ship to ship, and I guess I assumed people would be using wired cam controllers anyways for most things. Update: I ripped the entire 'Ops' map from 'DS9: The Fallen' to see about importing into hammer as a dynamic prop which I expect will allow dynamic lighting and shadowing on its textures (the main things I understand make maps look better than ordinary props). With better lighting, complete vphysics models for every original UnrealEngine brush, and correct surface properties on each texture(metal, glass, wood), it could effectively be a perfect Unreal1 > Source map conversion. The entire scene would be bound inside of an invisible box of exactly x2000y2000z2000 so that I can divide it into groups of 32 models each, which can be perfectly overlapped within the hammer grid as stationary dynamic props. Props can only be compiled with a maximum of 32 textures so several ‘layers’ (separate models) are necessary but the bounding boxes ensure their airtight alignment with one another. It really wouldn’t matter which textures were in which model. Ops alone is a pain in the ass, (over 100 textures) and if I were to ever officially start this project I would need to do the same thing for the promenade map which more than likely doubles it in textures!. Although there are so many textures, the filesize should be minimal since its archaic textures are all 128x128 and below. Compressed, the map’s file size shouldn’t be much larger than a typical source map containing native valve content. (trading complex brush geometry for numerous low-res textures) I need to at least make sure dynamic lighting and shadowing work as I need them to because the y2k-era textures would really look shitty without them. Beyond that, this project is going on hold until further notice. If anyone has any thoughts, advice, or corrections please share. Will this work or am I missing something? What problems could arise? Heres a picture of it in 3DS Max. It looks like shit right now with all the flipped faces and lack of smoothing. All I did was retexture (ripped textures were overbrightened for some reason, red was pink, yellow was white etc)
Holy crap. O_O Want.
That would be great for a map. Ah... STDS9.bsp
If you're ever fishing for ideas, you could ruin a lot of people's underwear at once by doing the Normandy. A somewhat edited CIC deck could probably fit in the shell and not be too massive.
That would be great for a map. Ah... STDS9.bsp
Do want. If I had the series/decent ref pics/maps/schematics I'd do it!
what a horrible name for a ship lol is there a USS Chernobyl too? =P
apwn i forgot to ask you earlyer when we where on steam chat but out of all the federation starships what ones can/can't you do with or without bridges again. i've made a small list of all the federation ships that you have not done yet akira ambassador antares centaur cheyenne constellation excelsioe miranda nebula new orleans niagara norway nova oberth olympic peregrine prometheus shelley saber soyuz springfield steamrunner yeager out of all of them what ones can you get the models too :3?
well probably all of them I havent checked. I was really only planning to port ships I personally liked or that are generally considered icons of the franchise. I think the excelsior may make the cut only because it has such a badass bridge, and possibly the Nova, because its so small and slick looking. However the nova will have a little ass of a bridge like Enterprise 2009. Federation ships and shuttles will represent probably 2/3+ of this pack so I dont think I'm going to add any more of them unless someone points me to a badass bridge that makes it worthwhile. I will add a Cardassian ship if anyone knows where I can find an official ship model. 'The Fallen' has one but that game has terrible graphics due to its age. That alone isnt a problem, but on a prop that large, a 128x128 texture will look horrible. No special texture shaders either.
Most of those ships can be ripped from mods from games like Bridge Commander, and Legacy, Armada 2, Ah. There's a classic.
Most of those ships can be ripped from mods from games like Bridge Commander, and Legacy, Armada 2, Ah. There's a classic.
well give apwn in the dark some links so he can check them out also last night was funny with the USS Defiant XD
http://legacy.filefront.com/#News http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/#News http://armada2.filefront.com/ Most of those links you might find some good stuff.
Well, if you want just a rediculous amount of things you could port, take a look here: http://legacy.filefront.com/file/NEW_All_In_One_The_Ultimate_Universe;83359
Why not just release what you have and keep working? A lot of good stuff falls by the wayside because developers think "No, it's gotta be a pack, and I gotta finish this for the pack, and I gotta finish this for the pack, and I know everything else is done but I need to add this before I release the pack" etc etc.
Used Car Salesman apwn in the dark won't upload the ships one by one he's wanting to save them for a BIG release.
Used Car Salesman apwn in the dark won't upload the ships one by one he's wanting to save them for a BIG release.
Which is exactly what people shouldn't do, because good, finished content gets delayed for the sake of other stuff. There's no logical reason to hoard everything for one release that often gets delayed again and again, or forgotten altogether. That's the reason SBMP went for five or six months without a real update, it's not that they didn't have working (sorta) content, it's silly to fall into the fallacy of believing everything needs to happen at once.
all the ships still need work done to them if he uploads the ships now some of them won't work right because there's some textures that are not ready yet and some of the ships still need proper physics. i should know i've being beta testing them there's still alot of work to be done with the ships plus i think apwn wants his pack fully working before he upload them for people to use. also he wants his ships in a pack i agree with him on that matter he's also being working really hard to get the ships fully ready for you guys i'm sure you can wait a little while longer.
Fair enough explanation. It's not like he's spent the last four months taunting people with videos of stuff only he has.
The main reasons for the delay are that the ships share certain textures. I dont want to be making incremental parts and asking people to overwrite shit. I'm also still learning new things as I go. For instance just 2 days ago I learned that my textures' alpha channels were getting compressed to 4bit and ruining the gradients of lighting/transparency/reflection effects - all thanks to DXT5 texture format I had to reconvert all textures to RGBA8888 to preserve their pallette. If I do see something wrong, I dont want to have to be doing this v2 v3 v4 nonsense repeatedly like I did with Voyager. On a side note, I keep all of my 3D projects meticulously organized and backed up specifically in the event that anothermoddabe 1st person physics game is released. In other words I wont have to 'rip' my own ships ever again, just give me the tools to export to another games model and texture format. So far nothing comes close to gmod. Lastly, how can you be 'taunted' by a useless models with no interiors or physics? Cant you just use voyager or is it too buggy? ... (Exactly =P)
used car salesman if your so bloody impatient then get out of this topic apwn will do as he wishes with his models. i already told you all of the ships where still being worked on and your just trying to be an arse because your not having it your way. also how was apwn in the dark taunting? he's only showing updated pictures of his work and i made the video at the top of this topic no one is taunting we are both showing you what work apwn is putting into each ship. EDIT: apwn the next time i see you online can i have a word with you about some bugs i've seen on your ships

And now I'm aware that there are shared textures that necessitate a single release. So it's over. God I hate people like you who go off on anyone that even remotely speaks ill of a modder. Do you really need a pat on the head that bad?
used car salesman frankly my dear i don't give a damn
poop
poop
EDIT: to anyone that wants to know what to know is this thread i've being talking with apwn in the dark and i will be learning how to rip / port & edit models just like apwn and once i've learned how to do it all the right way i will be helping apwn out with his models i may even do some ships that apwn never planned on doing at this time. i'm downloading all his videos/help note to help me get a head start once i'm ready the ships should be complete alot faster and sooner than before.
poop
Can we get a model of that with a bridge and shuttle bay?
Can we get a model of that with a bridge and shuttle bay?
dude really your wasting me and apwns time with your brain dead comments
